I had blood drawn for testing on Wednesday. Almost immediately I noticed the tell tale signs that I was gonna have a whopping bruise from this, even though the phlebotomist was fine, and it didn't hurt at all. Well over the course of the next 4 days, it went from small dime shaped bruise up to one that went from one side of my arm (elbow area) to the other, with two quarter sized round ones on each side. WTH?? I have had this happen several times before when having blood drawn, but never when I donate at the Red Cross. Is it a different method for drawing a small amount that causes this, or is it just that the Red Cross wants to make sure I come back so they are extra careful with me?
JK, of course. I do remember that the RC always has me lift my arm straight up in the air after she is done, whereas I don't think I've ever had a lab worker tell me to do that..and I always forget.
I really don't mind it, I was just wondering why does this happen..and it is always a big bruise about 3 inches from where the needle went in.
