I'll be at WDW Sept 17th-Sept 24th. I know that's in the middle of hurricane season and that the experts are predicting more this year than last year. I was just wondering if you guys that are traveling during that time are buying traveler's insurance and if so where? I booked my pkg yesterday and mentioned it to the CM and she didn't really recommend it. She said disney was really very good last year about working with people and extending park days for those who lost days due to the hurricane. They were also good about working with those who cancelled, were late, or had to stay extra days because of the hurricanes and she expected them to do the same thing this year. She also said travel insurance will only pay off if the hurricane hits the day you are to arrive or the day you are schedulted to leave and that if it hits in the middlle or just prior to your arrival date, then it won't pay off.

We didn't book insurance for our honeymoon last September and we aren't booking insurance for our trip this september.. just taking our chances :) I'm just worried about getting there. As long as we actually get there, we'll be fine!

We had to cancel last year because of the hurricane. I didn't have trip insurance and had no problem getting a refund on our room and I changed the plane tickets to our next trip.

We are going from Aug 20- 30 and we got the insurance just in case. We booked the trip and insurance through AAA. I can't remember the exact amount, but it was around $90.00. This was for two adults and one child.

Going Aug 21-26th and no insurance for us. We will get there regardless: If we are a few days late then so be it.

I don't have an answer but I was wondering the same thing. I had been trying to figure out what the Disney insurance covered. One of my friends was in Disney for the first hurricane last year. They left a few days early to get out before the hurricane. It took many letters and phone calls to get anything back. I think they eventually got the hotel money back for the days they weren't there. It was 3-4 rooms at GF so it was a lot of money. They wanted money back from the park passes they couldn't use but they eventually got 20 one day passes. Maybe they had problems since they left and would have been better off staying. I was considering booking insurance through www.insuremytrip.com but I haven't decided.

I am not...I talked to delta today and they said if it involves a hurricain there will be no change fee...and I know disney is good about this. also I plan on going in Dec so if I cannot go for some reason....then I have plane fare and reosort monies

Postponed a week last Sept due to Hurricane, was able to change flight, car, hotel etc... with no problems. Going the same time you are this year Sept 17-24 and hoping for no hurricanes. If there is guess we'll postpone again and roll with the punches. No insurance for us.

We got insurance. It was through CRO and cost 87.00 on a trip of more than 5,000.00 including air/ 6nights concierge/dining/tickets for 5 persons.

Last year my DH father passed away suddenly and then my DD(7) broke her arm and needed surgery. There are lots more reasons than a little hurricaine to possibly change our trip...better safe than sorry. JMHO :flower:

We are cruising Sept 3-10 and WDW Sept10-17. I told TA I would be in to pay for crusie and would be getting insurance. She said that it would not be covered for hurricanes, since they were an act of God. It would cover travel delays, sickness. Think I'm still going to get it, though

We too were moved a couple a days later last September due to the hurricanes and had no trouble at all with Disney or the airlines. The airports were closed and so was Disney(for just a bit) so neither could really hold you accountable. All parties were VERY reasonable in our date changes. So, if it is simply the hurricane issue that you are wondering about - Just say no, to insurance!

I had a trip last year, 1 night at the CR and then a week thru DVC. The hurricanes hit and I called Disney. They canceled my room without penalty to the CR - were actually recommending it because they needed places for their staff to stay. I came in a day later and everything in Disney was fine. I would never buy trip insurance for a dinsey trip, esp if I fly Southwest. There really is not penalties.

I purchased it for our trip which is 8/28-9/3, through CRO for $90.00. The pamplet I got in the mail does say uncontrollable weather is included, just as the CM told me at CRO.

I didn't just get it for the weather though, I got it for ANYTHING. I am going to be almost 30 weeks pregnant during our trip and I'd hate to have to cancel due to premature labor or something... Or if any other accident or death happened I like the feeling I am covered. It's only $90 to insure a trip that is costing us several grand. Seems worth it to me, even if we don't use it. :flower:

I am also going in Sept and we went last year in Sept. Last year we arrived 1 week after a hurricane and 1 hit while we were there. They closed the parks early the day before and were closed the day of the storm but we were safe on the property. This year I am buying the insurance, you just can't beat the price for what you get. I am going through insuremytrip.com that mousesavers recommend. Bare in mind that they like for you to purchase your insurance within 14 days of ressie (not Disney). We drive in from Atlanta so it is easier for me to get there then you coming from Texas.

I went to insuremytrip and cannot figure out what to put in. The prices all look higher than the $88 quote from Disney.

We're driving and not flying, so I'm not worried about tickets, lost luggage.

I'm thinking of upgrading my park hoppers to no exipiration so I don't have to worry about that.

What things do I need to put into insuremytrip? Like Medical limit?

If I have a death in the family or if someone gets sick - that's when I'm going to want my trip money back. Also, if we decide to leave early 'cause there's a hurricane blowing in - that's when I want money back.

We always take insurance. For us, it is peace of mind as anything can happen while you are away. There may be a death or serious illness while you are away and needed home....you just never know. IMO, it's not that expensive and it's just a 'safety' precaution.

i went through insuremytrip.com for our 7/30-8/8 trip. I did add medical coverage and flight coverage and it cost $55. We went on a DCL cruise during the winter one year and people were stuck with an east coast ice storm and couldn't make it to the cruise. I figured that I needed trip insurance after that! And for $55 I felt it was worth it.

Our Aug. 13-21 trip booked through AAA charged $90 for insurance, also. I think the insurance for the kids is free when you purchase for the adults. Also, we booked airfare at the same time and our airfare insurance is included with that $90 cost. If we would have booked air later it would have been an extra $30 per adult, I think. I didn't take notes.

TA told me that they had no trouble last year working with Disney on rescheduling trips, etc. (with or without insurance).

There are some other benefits to the insurance, you may want to consider.

For me, spending this much on vacation, I feel like I should insure it. I insure items of this cost as separate riders on my homeowners insurance. It might be a waste of $90, but it is one less worry for me.

We had reservations that had to be cancelled due to Hurricane Frances, last year. We waited until the very last minute to cancel (since I was soooo determined that we were going), and had no problem with getting a full refund. The Disney Rep actually stated that there were "tons" of people waiting for cancelled reservations, so they could have the room. We never get the insurance.

Regarding the airline tickets, what is covered? I am confused on this, because when we purchased it for our last trip, the CM said it covered cancellation for any reason (she mentioned illness, a hurricane or other really bad weather, loss of income, and other things, so it seemed well worth having!), and would also cover the airline tickets, though they state they are nonrefundable (she said that nonrefundable meant we would not get our $$ back but would get credit to use another time). When we got it for our upcoming trip in Sept., I wanted to double check what it covered, and the AAA TA said she wasn't sure.

So, I emailed Disney to ask for a copy of what was covered (the TA hasn't given us any paperwork yet, and silly me, I can't seem to find the pamphlet we got in the spring when we went :rolleyes1 my filing system :rolleyes1 ) and was told in their reply {quote}
This trip insurance pays covered financial losses related to this package that are incurred if you must cancel your trip or interrupt your travel because of a covered illness, injury, or death of you, a family member, or traveling companion

So who was right?? The initial CM back in spring (which I hope!), or the person who replied to my Disney email? If it is the latter, it seems really restrictive and I wouldn't have gotten it if it was limited to "covered" illnesses (whatever they may be) or death. My luck an illness wouldn't be one of the covered ones, and I am hoping we won't ever have to use it in case of death of one of us.

:confused3 Can anyone clue me in, please?
