Looking toward rescheduling next year and booking a September vacation I realize that love bugs are harmless and not a bother for many, many people, however I am not a fan.

Can past September visitors recall the approximate date that they saw the love bugs arrive? I know it can vary but I am hoping for personal experiences during September stays.

Many thanks,

We traveled to WDW in May and Sept. over the last 5 years before this beer bug hit and we never saw any Love Bugs during our Sept. trips, but there were a ton in May.

Thank you. So I guess the whole month of September is out for me. I was hoping that the beginning of September might be relatively lovebug free. On to October!

In my experience, it is. As I said above, I've seen them first appear in November. (They make another appearance in May). Usually just a few weeks in each of those two months.

As far as when they show up, you can't predict. It really changes depending on location. They can start to appear at the end of April, just a few at a time, then they get heavy a week or so later, then dwindle as they die out. Same in the fall. We've seen them start at the end of August. I live in Polk City, which is right off of I-4 about 20 minutes west of property. A couple of years ago our love bugs were gone, but they were still thick where my wife works in Winter Haven which is around 20 minutes to our south. What I'm saying is date and location can affect the love bug crop. Some years there are so few you barely notice them. Some times, very heavy. Finally, they can't read a calendar. They show up in their own place and time. Typically like said before, May and September are fairly good guesses but certainly not engraved in stone.

I go every September (except 2020) for the last 20 years...lovebugs have almost never been an issue in and around the parks. Unlike the May wave, when it's common to have them all around the parks and landing on every surface, in September IF you see any it tends to be smashing into the front of your car on the Turnpike on the way to Disney. Once in Lake Buena Vista and Disney property, they're mostly nonexistent. I've gone early, mid, and late September, and never had any large scale lovebug presence in the parks - if I saw one or two, no more than you'd see a fly or a bee, that's about it. But I do often have to wash my car driving up and back in September as they do tend to gather around the big empty fields and spaces along the Turnpike.

We have always gone in September. Usually the 2nd or 3rd week. We’ve seen them a couple times but they have never been that bad. Certainly not an issue that I would worry about planning a vacation around.

I will usually see a few during our September trips, but they've never been bad.

I think we may try for early September. Thanks so much for helping me narrow it down. I'm not afraid of lovebugs. I just want to avoid them because one time when I was there, you couldn't sit by the pool as they were so thick. It was the first time I had seen a theme pool at Disney almost completely empty save for a few stalwart kids. I have lots of flies and bugs in my area and I deal with them fine. I just don't want to pay for them on my vacation :)

Never saw in past 4 trips at end of September. Last several early MAY trips had lovebugs. Last year was horrendous. They usually don't bother me but holy cow.

I just went and looked at my journal for our september 2010 trip (we were there the last week of the month). “very few love bugs in the park, but sitting by the pool at Caribbean Resort was miserable”

They're much more common in May...I don't know that we've ever seen them during our Sept trips.
