I understand what you say about kids being able to go three hours without snacks ( healthy or not ) , but I would think that if this was a school issue, it should be schoolwide , not just some grades.
Kindergarten as an example goes to school from 9 am till 11:30, they have a snack time and recess time, wether you go in the morning or afternoon session. Then grades 1-4 have snack times and recess. My girlfriend's son is in sixth grade this year in the same school, his lunch time is 11:00 and they don't get out of school until 3:45 , gets home by 4 pm, that's almost 5 hours with no food. I'm not saying about the recess because I really don't care for that, but I think that they could give them 5 minutes to eat some kind of snack to hold them up a bit.
That's what is going to happen to my dd next year. They are all in the same school , kindergarten through sixth grade, go figure.
And BTW, I'm lucky my kids eat in the morning before they leave home , as a parent I know how important that is, but for some people that is not an option, some kids do not eat so early in the morning if you pay them $100 .
What is a snack for my kids? usually pudding , applesauce or pretzels, never fruit rollups , candy or barely ever chips , and never ever soda.
One day my dd last year brought a couple of cookies for snack and the teacher told her that she couldn't bring that in because it wasn't healthy, it had sugar. I asked the teacher how did she know if it was a sugarless cookie , and she backed off.
