I hope all our DVCers in SE Texas are safe and recovering soon! And those of you who may have been hit in Louisiana, too

I talked to my sister in Houston last night at midnight and again this morning - she said she'd rather be at BWV. (She's in an area that was told not to evacuate.) She said the noise of the wind and popping trees and transformers was pretty scary.

They came through fairly well with relatively minor damage. Their power is off and water pressure is low, but no flooding in their house. Many of their neighbors didn't fare as well. Lots of trees down and a few on houses and cars, and quite a bit of roof damage. Debris is everywhere. My sis said her house is covered with what looks like leaves that were put through a food processor.

Yes, :grouphug: for everyone impacted by Ike.

My friends and family in the Houston area all faired well enough, thank goodness! hope all others did too.

Yes, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Fortunately we're 300 miles south of Houston so we didn't get anything. However, I heard that millions were without power, such "non-fun" in this Texas heat. "Been there, done that" (with Dolly) and I still have the horrendous memories. Please stay safe all.

We still have lots of wind and rain here in NW Louisiana, but we haven't lost power but two short moments.

I think we dodged the bullet once again.

We're here in central Houston. We're safe, but we lost power last night around 3 am. We don't know when it will be back up at our home, but a family friend has a home that got power back this evening and we're now safely at their house for the night.

Our biggest "excitement" is that one of our trees fell over on our house. We have branches in our attic and leaks in three rooms... and we can't get the tree down. My husband climbed around on the roof for a little while trying to dislodge it, but it was too heavy and being up there was too dangerous. We called our insurance company, they said just take care of it and we'd be reimbursed once we reached our deductible. We can't find anyone to take care of it. Emergency services doesn't consider it major enough, although everyone admits there is a danger that it will fall further down and take out our master bedroom.

We're worried, of course, but we're safe.
