Do you like Sea-Band gum? Or ginger candy? Which works best? :yay:

i have never tried either. i always go with Bonine. it does not make me tired like dramamine (even the non drowsey formula makes me sleepy).

Bonine has never let me down. even helps when we go fishing on the bay in Maryland.

We have not tried the products you asked about but we use ginger capsules that can be bought at any drug or health store. DH uses them for rides and cruises. I use it for crusies only as I get very sea sick. Works great as a natural remedy. Bonine works well also. No matter what you choose to use, I recommend starting it the night before and take it at least 90 minutes before you plan to go on a ride. We read this advice on a cruise message board and it definitely made a difference for DH to start taking it the night before. I guess an extra night of absorbing into his system helps him.
Good Luck!

I haven't used either but we did try ginger tablets for our last trip. My DH gets motion sickness and even has trouble flying. He actually went on all three mountains at MK and tried a couple other motion rides with no problems. I tend to get motion sickness with spinning rides and went on a couple with my DD and didn't have any problems. We took a tablet in the morning and one in the evening starting the day before our trip.

MythBusters had a section on motion sickness remedies that were pharmaceutical free. Ginger was the only one that they could find that worked. I recommend it to everyone that I can. I like that there are no side effects!!!!!

I recently saw tins of ginger "Altoid" mints somewhere-- can't remember where off the top of my head-- most likely Kroger, Target, or Walmart. Anyone try these for motion sickness? Probably wouldn't hurt...

I like Bonine/Non-Drowsy Dramamine.

Also, when I was an exchange student in Germany 12-13 years ago, there was a motion stickness gum called SuperPep that worked wonders for me. I haven't found anything like it over here.

I bought those too - based on the findings of MythBusters (that was a funny show, and they really believed the ginger wouldnt work at all!! They were mystified - but all agreed it was working!! Cant imagine how many spins they endured!!)

I do a combo, I used to do the otc Bonine, etc, but now get the patch prescription from Doctor, that with the ginger capsules (and candied ginger, and ginger snaps work also - esp if you have kids that get car sick - suck on ginger!!) worked great!! (as I am in my mid 40's something has happened to my metabilism!!)

I use the scopalomine patch from my doctor. I have minimal side-effects (only a little dry mouth) and I can do ALL the rides. I love the patch because you can put it on and forget about it for three days!

I used Bonine last trip, and it worked GREAT. I had no issues whatsoever. I've already stocked up!

I've wondered about something along the lines of ginger candy (that's why the Altoids caught my eye-- I wish now I would have bought it, 'cause i truly don't remember where I saw it-- just as extra "insurance." )

When I was younger (gosh, I hate saying that!!!) I could ride ANYTHING.... read/ play games, WHATEVER! in the back of the station wagon (remember those days? ;) ) or spin for hours-- no problem!!!

Now.... (starting around the time I had dd8) if I even turn to look backwards while riding in the front seat of a car, or look briefly at anything, such as a map-- forget it!!! Takes forever to feel "right" again. I can't even ride in the back seat of a car across town.

I made the fatal mistake of riding some type of local fair-type ride-- I think it was similar to the Dumbo ride-- just big circles-- with dd, then about 4, and I literally had to lie down under a shade tree for about 30 minutes. It was TERRIBLE!!!!

When we went to WDW, I faithfully took my Bonine every day-- took two tablets before our Epcot day, and even rode M:S with NO problems, whatsover!!! :woohoo:

I found my bottle of ginger capsules. It cost $6 for 90 capsules. Each capsule is 500 MG. We took two in the morning and two in the evening, starting the day before. No side effects and all natural. I asked DH about Bonine last night and he said he sometimes feels ill from the Bonine and still gets nauseous on the rides sometimes. Bonine worked fine for me. I wonder how many ginger Altoids one would have to consume to be effective? They may also help after you become a little nauseous. If you choose not to use the ginger capsules and go for the actual ginger root, make sure it is candied as ginger is very bitter tasting. I forget the exact ginder product I bought before the capsules but it was foul!

They just had a show on "Myth Busters" and the Ginger Capsules as well as prescription meds worked best, but the prescription meds left them all doped up. With the Ginger Capsules they were still able to function normally. Very interesting show except that I started getting nauseous along with them when they did end up getting sick. (I should have had some Ginger Capsules) :rotfl2:

That's what I was going to say. I just watched it on Sunday, and Mythbusters determined that Ginger Pills were the only thing that worked. I have already planned to pick some up.

I've used prescription meclizine (the active ingredient in Bomine) for vertigo several times, and it works wonders. One thing to keep in mind is that it is technically an antihistimine, which often has a side effect of dry mouth. If you are prone to allergies, this might be a bonus for you. I'm planning on getting it for my September trip, and I'm hoping it will help alleviate that nasty rash people on this board have mentioned. If you have a good prescription drug plan, it might be less expensive to have your doctor prescribe it than buying OTC.

BTW, I'll also be doing the ginger thing. Don't want to take a chance on, well, you get the idea ;)

Please... what brand, what dosage works for you?? Where do you buy it?
Is it good for car sickness and ok for kids to take?
Would it help on a ride like EE?
Thanks all. :)

I second that. I get motion sickness on select rides. Its weird I can do splash mountain, test track and btm no problem but on space mountain, star tours and soarin i get sick. Hopefully this ginger will help.

I bought Rexall brand Ginger Root 550 mg herbal supplement tablets. I think I got them at Walmart. It says take one capsule twice daily (we took one in the morning and one at night) and we started the day before we left. There is a benefits label that says "The active constituents in Ginger promote diestive health, as well as help alleviate occasional motion sickness".

These don't say they are safe for kids. There might be a different brand/dosage that would be labelled for kids.

I would think they would work for car sickness because they took care of all types of motion sickness for DH & I.

My DH gets motion sick on just about anything - long car rides, the plane, any kind of motion vehicle. He wouldn't even try a mild roller coaster because of it. When we went in March, didn't have trouble on the plane, rode all three mountains at MK with no issues, rode Soarin' with no issues.

I get motion sick on twirly things and more drastic movements (like EE) as I'm getting older. I went on a ride in the dino area of AK with no problems, rode EE and ToT with no problems.

WOW! The Bonine worked for Mission Space! The last and only time I went on it I was like you were after the Dumbo ride!! I also get sick on Body Wars, Star tours etc... Does it help for things like that, because your not actually moving on those??

I have only tried the Non-Drowsy Dramamin, and it works very well, DS and I both use it for fishing, and he uses it on cruises.

My DH used the non-drowsy dramamine and it still made him drowsy. I forgot to mention that I've read somewhere that even foods with ginger like ginger snaps would work. This might be a possibility for the kids.

I did ride Star Tours last time and had no problems. Of course, reading these posts, it's obvious that what works for one might not work for another....

Hopefully, I'll be as lucky this trip, also!

One thing about ginger.... I could be dead-wrong, but I was reading (several weeks ago, so I don't totally trust my memory) that ginger tablets can act as a blood thinner, so people with potential health risks (or even pregnancy) may want to really check this out before taking it.... and taking caution to take only the recommended dosage.

I wish I remembered the web site-- but I'm sure a google search would answer some questions.
