In traveling on I-95, should I take 295? East or West? Going north on Saturday.

TIA

You should nearly always take I-95 straight through the city unless it's afternoon rush hour on a weeknight. Saturday for sure.

If you're going to use the beltway, use the I-295 section around the EAST side of the city rather than I-295 around the western side. Not only is it shorter but it goes over the pretty spectacular Dames Point Bridge.

Also be aware that some signs still say 9A instead of 295 East, it's a relatively new change.

And even during rush hour still stick to I-95, the beltway gets more crowded.

I lives in Jacksonville (well stationed from 1991-93). Take I-95. But BEWARE! When it splits from I-95 south to north, slow the hell down! There is a speed trap right after the split on I-95 south. Used to see anywhere from 5-10 cruisers on the pulloff in their Mustang 5.0's (yes that long ago). Just go the speed limit in that area and you should be fine!
