I have just signed up with a host agency and have jumped on the ball of creating a website for my business. I have searched the internet about using Disney photos on a website, and it seems that most you can't use for commercial websites (which mine would be right?). So how do you go about getting permission or finding photos that you can post on your website. I'm not going to exclusively do Disney travel but I want to spotlight Disney vacations on the site. Any info would be appreciated!!

You might try getting in touch with the disney media folks about using images, basically get their permission. The only other thing would be for you to take your own photographs and use those. Then again, I'm no lawyer, so I'll let one of the other folks chime in with their .02 :)

do you have your website set up?

If not consider something like www.onlineagency.com they can provide content as well as hosting ( or just content if you prefer) I have my site through them and I relaly like them. Otherwise, you can take your own or ask permission of someone you know who has a lot of photos. I have a mix of all of the above on the website.

Good luck and wlecome aboard :)

Who did you decide to go with as a host?

If you've been given an IATA or CLIA number to use for your agency, you can sign up to use Disney's travel agent web site (you want to do that anyway, you can make bookings for clients on their site rather than calling central reservations, plus you can order brochures and get tons of other info). Once on that site, go to "Sales and Marketing" then to "Download Ad Shells, Web Art and More" and you need to then submit an aplication for permision to use their art work. They'll review it and contact you with an answer, then you can down load their stuff.

I saw that on their website for "travel agents only" and figured as soon as I can log in on there that maybe they would have something like that. Thanks! I seriously just faxed my contract yesterday, so they have a training (which they say some finish in a few days others longer) then I'll be up and ready to use their IATA number. Thanks that was what I was looking for. :)

I've decided on Dugan's Travels as my host agency. I've heard great things about the support they give you (which starting out is what is important to me). I have experience working in a travel agency (as support staff), working in hotels etc but not as an agent (except planning friends vacations :) ). Dugan's suggests looking at onlineagency but for just starting out I didn't think I could justify the cost per month yet, but the sites look awesome! I'm excited about starting but realize I've got my work cut out for me! Thanks for the welcome :thumbsup2

What you'll need to do then (and you need to do this with ALL the vendors) is to get yourself set up in their system. Contact central reservations by phone, get to a res agent and explain your a new agency just getting started. They tell you all the information you'll need to send in (usually a buisness licesnse, proof of IATA, and W-9 form and a cover letter on agency letter head with your name, address phone, fax, and e-mail) and the number to fax it all to. They'll add you to their database of agenices, then you can book under your IATA number and be paid your commisions (which is the whole point, afterall! ;) ). It's tedious and a pain in the butt, but once you sign up with everyone you're likely to do buisness with, you won't have to do it again!

Once that's done, if you think you'll need a supply of brochures for your clients, call all your vendors back and start asking for brochures and any other sales marketing material you can get your hands on (you'd be surprised and the stuff you can get for free! Post cards, flyers, mailers, ad shells, posters, DVD's, it's almost endless!) Start with small quantities, you're just staring out and the year is half over, you don't want to be stuck with a ton of out dated material at the end of they year, all you can do is toss it out! Just order more if/when you need it.

Once that's done, you may want to call your sales rep for all the vendors you set yourself up with, just to introduce yourself. They are all very nice people and should be happy to help you with any issues you may incounter and give you any support you need from the vendors. The vendors realize the trend in home-based agencies and are willing to work with them.

I'm not a home based agent myself, I work for a corporate travel agency. But I've got 9 years industry experiance, so if you ever have a question that you need to ask, feel free to PM me. I may not always have the answer but I'm willing to try!

OP - since you are with Dugans (I am too! so welcome to the group), you won't have to do all of this. You will be using Dugan's IATA/CLIA number which the suppliers already have set up in their systems. The commissions are sent directly to Dugan's and Jennifer in turn pays us. It is a great group. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about them. I don't want to totally hijack this thread.
