for glasses wearers, how do they hold up on rides?

I used to wear glasses (had my eyes lasered in 2010) and I used to take my glasses off and put them away before every ride just because I was so worried about losing them. unfortunately, with out them I couldn't see my hand in front of my face so I had to hold on to DH as my guide, I know this may sound weird but I didn't worry about not being able to see around the ride because for me this wasn't really 'part of it.' I think it's better to be safe then sorry so if a strap isn't an option I'd defiantly get them someone safe before hand. :)

Had a friend lose his glasses on BTMR because the person in the car with him put his arms up and then hit him in the head when they rounded a curve. We always use a strap of some kind.

Disposable contact lenses. When I'm at Disney...or any theme park, or on vacation in general...I put my glasses away and wear daily disposable contact lenses instead.

While I have never lost a contact lens on a ride, I always carry a back up pair in my bag or pocket just in case. And since they are meant to be thrown out after one use, I wouldn't feel any great sense of loss of one did pop out on a ride. My $500 prescription glasses though? Not so much.

Also, my personal experience with contact lenses...the harder the lens, the easier it is for it to fall out (and the more expensive it is to replace them). Soft disposable lenses stick to my eyeballs way better.

Never fails:

ah, the days of wearing contact lenses! i LOVED contact lenses and wore them for about 15 years... now my eyes wont allow it any more. they get red and irritated by mid afternoon and it takes days for my eyes to clear back up. i wish i could wear them again :(

Nothing that one good donkey-kick, straight to the forehead, wouldn't fix.

I wear contacts most of the time when I got to Disney, but a few times I've worn glasses (and I will be wearing them the next time I go, I'm pretty sure, because of problems I've been having with my eyes) and I've never had any trouble! I did lose my headband on a ride once, so I always make sure I take headbands off now. xD

I bought a string that attaches to each end of the glasses. Probably not necessary but it makes me feel more secure on EE, SM, RnR.

I haven't ever had a problem with glasses falling off, either sunglasses or prescription.

I have prespriction sunglasses as well, but I went to Wallie World and bought some clip ons for my regular glasses. They are so much easier to take on and off and if I lose them or they break it is no big deal. Save your prescription sunglasses for reading by the pool. :cool2:

Thanks I'll look into this. :cool2:

This has been a huge concern of mine recently. 2 years ago I took my glassess of on thrill rides. My eyesight has since gotten worse, so taking my glassess of would just make the ride so unenjoyable. I'm hopefully getting contacts before I go in August.

I wear contacts now, but in the past I never had issues with wearing Oakley frames on rides. Every pair I've owned, whether eyeglasses or sunglasses, have been rather grippy.

I've been on them all and the only ride that seems to move them at all is Test Track when the car is at top speed. Then I think I feel the wind hit my face and push up my glasses just a little. I've never waited long enough to find out if they actually would lift off before I just reached up and lightly held them in place.

It would totally ruin a ride for me if I had to look at it all blurry. The suggestion for the strap is a particularly good one.

I am so glad you mentioned Test Track! I use a glasses strap at WDW - it's a "sunglasses strap" that can easily be tightened or loosened, and just makes me feel more secure. But, even with the strap on tight, Test Track made me feel like I was going to lose my glasses! I actually did the same thing - reached up and kept a hand on them!

Another benefit of the strap - it holds my glasses up snugly enough to make it easier to wear the 3D glasses over them for various attractions.

SM and RnRc I always remove mine. But I always have a case. If you don't use a case you WILL scratch your lenses. I don't know about everyone else, but I have top notch eye insurance and my lenses are always $200.00 or more. PLus if you are putting your kids glasses in your bag they WILL get scratches and then your little angel will be walking around looking at things all scratchy. Also I've worn glasses since I was 5, and the straps will keep your glasses on. Look for EK Cats, or croakies.

I have worn my glasses on all the rides, but many times I use the eye glass case that I bought at Disney to hold my glasses on the faster rides. I don't think they would fall off, but many times I am too afraid to take that chance.

My DD(10) wears glasses all the time and never had a problem. She even wore them on California Screaming last year (which goes upside down.) She has worn them on TOT, SM, SM, BTMR. I think that gravity forces them to stay on. I have never thought of adding a strap, but I guess that is a good idea. I wouldn't ask her to take them off because she wouldn't be able to see with out them and that would be a bummer. For her, the biggest problem is when they get wet on a ride, or when it was raining a lot and she didn't happen to have a hat that day. She is a trouper though, wipes them off and goes on. It is just a little annoying for her. Good luck and have a really fun trip!!

I wear glasses. Never wear a chord and have never had a problem. The rides at Disney are designed for the entire family and are not severe enough to through glass off of your head. As an earlier poster said, have her stand up, look down and shake her head. If they come off, they need to be adjusted. I wouldn't worry about it. If your still worried, the rides that you might be concerned about have pouches that you can put personal items in. The only problem with that is she'll end up forgeting them somewhere. I've done it. The only ride I've ever taken my glasses off for is Space Mountain at Disneyland and I foregot them.
