For AP holders, seems like the right strategy is to request a refund no?

Any local who renews annually and is fine with going back once the clock on the passes starts again (which may not be opening day, judging by Shanghai) should take an extension. For many of us, prices on passes have already gone up since the last time we renewed. Not taking an extension just means paying the higher rate sooner, which is silly. For non-locals, each situation is different.

I am taking the extension. I had planned a Sept trip anyway.... it would be like the last week of the original timeframe. I was going to let it expire then and probably get another AP for the following spring. But... now I am considering another trip with my current one with the extension. Depending on the new expiration date ... I'm hoping for a trip to see the holiday/Christmas events. Never been to the Candlelight Procession.. hoping to squeeze in a trip for that! Even if they do open June 1, that's 11 weeks added. So that takes us halfway through December. Perfect for a holiday trip.

I’m just sad because spring is my favorite time to go. It’s been extended into July when it’s 1 billion degrees out? Thanks :crazy2:

So, if you are on the monthly plan they automatically hold and refund any payments made since the parks closed? I had one charge for the end of March, and another to start April after the parks were closed, but I haven't had any money come back, nor did they charge me in late April or early May.

If you want a refund they will do so once they know when the parks are reopening, they'll refund three number of days they were closed and your ap expiration date stays the same
Or
You can choose to keep paying normally once the parks reopen and they will extend your ap for the number of days they were closed

They have not said, the only wording we have is that they will extend the ap before the parks reopen, so im assuming we'll now about 2 weeks before they reopen
So when are we required to let Disney know we want to extend? Our Passes are PIF and expire on Christmas day. We don’t mind having an extension as we talked about hitting up WDW for NYD!

I called weeks ago and let them know i wanted ti take the extension. They made a note on my account but I'm sure we'll have instructions once the parks are announced to be reopening

We generally purchase a discounted Gold APH. Our family convinced us to meet them @ WDW over Easter since we’d be in the area after a cruise.

We upgraded our passes when at the park for a quick getaway this February. Figured it would be best to do it then, avoid possible price increase & to maximize the time we would have in the parks in April.

Sadly, that trip that was to start the end of March was cancelled. Now, we find ourselves with absoutely no need for the Platinum usage (& that is factoring in other booked trips we hope come to pass this year).

Yes, admittedly, another 1st world problem. With all the suffering that is going on, doesn’t seem right to complain, but here I am. :) Not putting the blame on Disney but I’m still annoyed to find myself ‘out’ the approx $400 upgrade over this.

I'd probably call ticketing and ask if they can reverse it back to gold for you. Even if it's a credit for the next pass, something's better than nothing. Obviously you can't normally do that, but these are strange times. It would be comparable to buying a regular ticket for Easter and not being able to use it.

Hadn’t thought of that. Hate to go back to the well one time too many asking for special treatment but I may just make that call. Nothing ventured...:)

I understand what you're saying, but we want to see what the "new" WDW looks like before purchasing a higher priced AP in the future. If we feel it is a watered-down experience for the time we would have that AP, then we'll move on.

We're in the local AP, take the partial refund, wait and see approach. The cost delta between a current and future AP doesn't really concern us as much as the effect on the experience(s) does.

I should add that when I told them we wanted the partial refund, they asked for my phone number. I asked why and the CM told me they will call me once an opening date is announced to confirm my decision. I think there is a possibility there could be another incentive to have us not get the refund.

So this is under the what would you do?

I didn't plan on getting an AP this year, but we ended up doing a last minute 5 day trip this past March (right before the closure). I knew we'd be back in July for 10 days, and then another 7-10 days in February 2021 so I knew we'd cover the cost. Now... July is looking like a question mark.

We're out of state, and I bought the platinum pass. The extension probably won't help us because I doubt we'd get another trip in before it expired.
  • If we don't get to go in July I think the refund is the way to go?
  • It's prorated off of how long the parks are closed, or how long is left on your pass? I read Disney's statement to read how long the parks are closed.
  • Also, your original expiration date remains even if you take the refund?

Worst they can say is "no". They gave partial refunds on park hoppers for those that were there and had trips cut short by the closure. You clearly paid for the upgrade to attend during a closure period so my guess is that they'd work with you.

#1 - likely, unless you think you'd go again by July 2021
#2 - it is prorated based upon how long the parks are closed
#3 - original expiration date remains the same if the refund is chosen

My wife has a Platinum AP that was purchased activated for our 8 day December trip. She used it for a few days in late February for our Mardi Gras trip to Port Orleans. She had planned to go for Mother’s Day this year and is really bummed out that she is not there right now and really wants to go for Mother’s Day weekend next year. We really don’t think that the extension would cover a trip next May. She is booked for a fall Halloween trip with some friends that will be covered by her current AP. Do you think it would be smart to take the partial refund for the unused days and apply it for an AP renewal in December? That way it could cover her Mother’s Day trip next year. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven’t seen anywhere that Disney clearly said how it’s going to be prorated, but I suspect it will be based on how many days you lose from your pass. So, the lesser of either the total time the parks are closed (if your pass expires after opening) or the time between closure and when your pass expires (if your pass expires during the closure)
