Hi a quick question when adopting a fur baby from out of state is it common to pay for the pup before hand I know transport is involved the pup is coming from TN to NY but since its the first time my sister wants to make sure before she send the money TIA

Yes, they will not transport without receiving payment first. But again, make sure you do a google search on the organization you are adopting through to make sure they are reputable!

We are also in NY and just adopted a dog from TN two weeks ago.

However, they transported about 50 at one time to a no-kill shelter in Queensbury and then the animals were adopted from there. We drove there to meet her (I don't think I could adopt a puppy/dog without having seen them first) and paid then.

She is a 6 week old happy lil Chihuahua pup my sister fell in love with her, she was just not sure how it works thank you all for reasuring me I told her and she sent the money she is sooooo excited!:cloud9:

The rescue I volunteer with very seldom has adopters lined up before the transport. People can see the dogs and when they are arriving on Petfinder, and they can submit applications online.

But we do fairly detailed interviews with people and we usually like to keep the dogs at least overnight before we do the adoption. Payment is made when the dogs go home with their new families.

The rescue I work with requires payment upfront and all dogs are already placed with forever homes before going on the transport.

Please do be sure she researches the rescue... in many states it is illegal to "sell" or adopt out a puppy before the age of 8 weeks.

we just got our new baby from a rescue in TN and we paid before hand. was transported up to CT and we picked her up from one of the rescue volunteers here. she was 13 weeks, had been fixed, chipped and vaccined.

I hope the puppy will be much older when she gets it.. 6 weeks is too young and although i do not believe there are laws in Tn about age there are laws in NY ... and many laws do cover pets being imported. Tiny breeds need to be more in the 12 week range to be safely adopted. I just cant imagine a 6 week old puppy getting shipped. Also, usually airlines require a vet health check and I cant imagine a vet that would sign one for a tiny puppy. Makes me wonder about the legitimacy of the breeder/ adoption agency.
Just wondering.. how much was this puppy?

she wont be transported until she is spayed, chiped, vetted etc and she needs to be atleast 4lbs or 12 weeks which ever comes first, not a breeder she definetly wanted to rescue a pup so its a rescue group.
