I am planning to book for next Christmas (Dec 23 to 30, 2015) as soon as I can (11 mths) at our home resort AKV. However, that is really our second choice. We want to re-book at 7 months in either VWL or one of the Epcot resorts. Firstly, do you think we have a shot at a 1 bdrm at 7 months? Secondly, what would be your strategy to for this scenario?

TIA :thumbsup2

With a 1BR, you have a reasonable chance. Most of the "you need to own at ABC resort and book at 11 months for category A" are talking about their studio and/or 2BR experience.

If you have the points, I would seriously consider "walking" at 7 months since I would imagine many Christmas Day duests would check in earlier than Wednesday of Christmas week.

It will be very difficult to book VWL as its one of the most popular resorts at Christmas. Walking a reservations works at 11 months not 7 months as a owner of VWL a can book the days you are trying to walk. Try to book at 7 months and use the wait list if needed.

Christmas can be tricky to trade into. However my strategy would be try to get the resort you want at 7 months and book as many days as you can right then. For instance maybe 4 of your days can be booked and you have to waitlist 4. Then do the waitlist BUT also look yourself online to try to nab those days and book when days do come up.

I used this method for our T-day week reservation for this year and also our BLT Christmas week reservation several years ago.

Good luck!!

Agree. Keep your AKV reservation, of course, and go on a waitlist for your two top choices. While you might not get all your days, usually at least a night or two will shake free. If you don't mind changing resorts mid-stream, then that would be an option, too.

We own at WLV and booked for this Christmas at the 11 month mark, we got a 1 BR. My cousin who owns at BWV tried to get into WLV at the seven month mark and there was no availability for a 1 BR... Needless to say he kept his ressie at BWV and wait listed WLV ( still no luck )..
