I can't recommend a site, but 12-13 hours north of Disney should put you somewhere in central Virginia. My most recent drive took me door to door in 13 hours exactly (at 70 mph and only gas stops) and I live in Northern VA. With a stop or two along your way, I would aim for Richmond or possible a little south of there on 95. Fredericksburg is also an option but it would depend on your speed & length/number of stops.

Yes. We stayed at the LaQuinta off of 95, Savannah\Gateway area. It was a very nice place, especially for $50 per night. Clean, free of "visitors", nice pool etc. We will use it again this year during our drive for the August trip.

Also, this area, if you have not been there, has a lot of restaurants, gas stations etc., so it is convenient for that as well.

I'm thinking this would be a good place to stop for our drive down in August too. Do you remember how long it took you to get to WDW from Savannah?

Just got back from the trip going 95 most of the way from New England to FLA. No problems Sat AM through Baltimore/DC and on south. No problems north through DC/ Baltimore & NYC on Sunday AM/mid-day. Only problem was some construction in GA that slowed us down(both north & south) & the Mass Pike on Friday afternoon (should have known better!!)

FI and I did our first 2500 mile round trip over Christmas break. First time I ever drove to FL by myself-

Michigan to Northwest Indiana- 2.5 hours wouldn't have been so bad except we had 6 dogs and 7 cats in the car with us (Honda Element) to drop them off at my parents house.

NWI--> Marietta, Georgia- an unexpected early departure to the South due to the death of my FI's best friend. Not the best way to kick off a vacation, but since it was a family emergency mom and dad offered to watch the dogs for 5 extra days so we didn't have to drive/fly down, come back, and then head back to disney a few days later. This also afforded us the opportunity to ring in the New Years on Clearwater Beach and spend New Year's Day in the parks (which weren't too crowded, and I was surprised!)

Marietta Georgia to Clearwater to Disney, BACK to NWI to pick up the animals, and then back home to Michigan.

The drive wasn't too bad. FI and I are both ADHD adults and it can make long car trips interesting, but we've got the hookup in our car with power inverters so he can play video games and I can read.

Yes, Fredericksburg is where we are stopping! FYI, I got the Wingate by Wyndham for $40 (not including taxes) on Priceline, I think its exit 126

We left Montreal on Saturday morning at 5am and, after 2 very long days of driving, we arrived in Clermont last evening around 7pm. The trip went very well. We stopped for the night in Roanoke Rapids (Comfort Suites, very nice room for 6 at less than 100$) and the kids (4) did amazing the whole trip. My youngest (2 yo) rewarded us with an indigestion after we got here but I guess that's what you get when you feed a 2 year-old with gummy bears all day...

We went down I-95 all the way and, apart from a little traffic around DC, the road was clear and we made good time.

Magic Kingdom awaits now

I'm thinking this would be a good place to stop for our drive down in August too. Do you remember how long it took you to get to WDW from Savannah?

Yes - we have done it a few times now, and the average is 12 hours from PA\Allentown area. That's using 81\77\26\95 route, including stops for gas, eating, and "kid stops".

Our last trip in August, we left at 4am, and arrived in the Savannah area just after 4pm. We like to get 4-6 hours of driving in before the kids even wake up.

oil is pushing $80 a bar. again. gas is trading for 2.20, up 4 cents from monday. it dif. from state to state but it would put you in the 2.80 range on 95. here in pa, at 2.20 will put us at 2.80-2.85. gearing up for spring travel season.

We are going to be driving from the north Dallas area to WDW in about 11 days!! Of course, DH and I can't totally agree on exactly HOW to do the drive. We drove pretty much straight through in August, starting through the night, stopping in Destin in the morning for a couple hours. It was very tiring. He likes driving through the night but I don't. I think we've agreed to leave around 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning and drive as far as we can, hopefully making it to Tallahassee, then stay there for the night and continue on to WDW leaving around 5:00 a.m. Sunday. That should get us into WDW around noon. We "lose" 2 hours on the drive there since we come from the central time zone and then daylight savings time starts 3/14 (that Saturday night/Sunday).

bc, did you here they are going to start doing "palm swipes" in the airport. they are going to walk up to people, at random, swipe the palms of there hands to see if you have been in contact with explosives. so not only do you get frisked, but now there are wiping you down.

We leave in about 37 days, I guess we should probably get a plan together...We are leaving Middle NH at about 1am, should put us in CT by 5am. Gas and whatever break and then on the road again. We will probably stop somewhere for breakfast in NJ, fill up and let the kiddos run around at one of the rest areas. Then on the road again until probably Virginia, and we are stopping in Roanoke Rapids, NC for the night. The next day getting up and driving to Cape Canaveral

The family (me, DH and DS9) will be driving to WDW from just north of Omaha, NE. We leave on Friday, May 28th at 3pm. DH won't be home until 2:45 from work, so we have a leave time of 3. We are checking into Disney on the 30th. Any tips, info, routes, drive times....would be sooooooo appreciated! We drove to South Padre Island last summer and had a blast! Google maps has us going through Atlanta - kinda scared of that! Just looking for info and support for this trip! Thanks!!
