We drive a couple of times a year now that we are not tied to the school calander we stay longer and usually bring the dogs with us. We used to drive non stop now we spend 2 nights down and 1 night home as much as I love disney when I start that ride home I can't wait to get here. We always say the last 60 miles when we see the welcome to vermont sign are the longest.

We've done 11 2,000+mile WDW round trip drives since 2002. And we did our first straight-drive last May: 1,074 miles down in 17 1/2 hours. A direct drive from Vermont has to be a challenge!

Well we had to cancel our drive this summer but are going to do it again in Dec. I think we will do straight through drive again this time. Can't wait to see our favorite sign:

We also hail from NJ (Atlantic County now, previously Ocean County) and have made the trip a number of times. We leave early in the AM, around 2:30 AM, and can usually get to the Orlando area about 6:30 PM. Though the Easter week drives did take longer as there was noticably more traffic on the roadways the entire trip, which translated into congestion and accidents. Coming home is mroe of a drain as we don't get as early a start.

Our drive is well over 2,000 miles (to get the exact mileage I'll have to ask DH. I thought it was written down in my book but I couldn't find it). We went in August this year and even though we had two tropical storms to drive through I wouldn't have traded it.

I've made the drive to Disney 3 times now (two have been 2,000+ mile trips). My second trip (and DH's first) was 8 hours total.

I loved seeing that sign again. I hadn't seen it in five (long) years. I hope it's not that long until I see it again. I'd love to see it in less than a year. Just have to wait to see if we can go next September or if it will be 2010.

We figure this will put in NYC around 8:30 or so , hopefully the traffic will be lighter then , and then by the time we get to DC it should be clear sailing. We plan on stopping and sleeping in car about 3 hours somewhere around 1- 4 ish . Curious to see when we will arrive at POP

Is there anyway you can avoid metro NYC? I assume you take I-95 for part of your initial journey as well?

Last time we drove was 2003. We left around 6 pm right after having dinner. We drove through and did a stop here or there. I drove for about 2-3hours of this time. We stopped for about 20-30 minutes at South of the Border. We then drove through to Georgia, stopped and had BF and I drove through to Orlando. We got there around 11-12.

Our plans for this trip is to stop at DH's uncles house right outside of Orlando and take our showers and eat something and then head over to the POP. I know check in isn't until 4 and we can go to the parks before check in but I would rather shower before heading into the parks. I hope to get a dinner ADR at CM's around 6 that night also.

Yup! Twice already this year from Albany, NY, and one more planned. We stop two nights - unless there's something interesting we want to do - then it's more. The first trip - it took us over two weeks to get to Florida. A cooler full of snacks, satellite radio, and my honey. What more could I want?

They could.

I-84 in CT to 684 to 287 to the Garden State parkway to I95.

That's the way WE go, and avoid NYC altogether. Mileage wise, it's a longer drive, but time wise we seem to save at least an hour, and more if we'd have hit NYC during busier times.

It takes us, from NW CT, around 3 to 4 hours to get to NYC proper (Rt 8 to I-95, I-95 to NYC). They should hit NYC WELL after rush hour, on a Thursday night...traffic will be relatively light. But leaving that late, they won't hit DC until likely well after midnight..maybe close to 1 AM depending on traffic. Likely fine, but then you have Richmond you REALLY want to get past before rush hour the next day (Friday)...at least I would. Even with the 295 "end around" in Richmond, it's still busy during the morning commute.

Taking the route we do, we can leave earlier and STILL avoid the traffic..getting into DC around 8 or 9 PM (or 7 or 8 PM, if we can leave a bit earlier), and on the other side of Richmond, and into Northern North Carolina before we stop for the night.

I like to take 95 the whole way. Typically ( if there is anything typical about NY traffic ) as long as we are going thru NY after nightime rush hour traffic we are o.k.

I am planning on leaving the providence area at 5 pm on thursday and hope to be at POP by 10 pm on Friday night. We plan on sleeping in car for about 3 hours, not sure if it is doable or not, we shall see in 4 days

Around 11 am. We leave from South Jersey. I'm about 45 minutes from the Delaware Memorial Bridge. So about 18 hours with stops. We like to drive through the night while the kids sleep. Makes it more peaceful for us.

We drive straight through the night. DH is/was a Marine and is used to not sleeping at night. He also works at night so is used to being up really late. He takes a nice nap the day that we leave. Sleeping for about 3-4 hours midday while I pack and do last minute errands. Then he is fresh as a daisy.

We switch up as needed. Taking turns when the other is too tired to go on. Last time he drove about 6 pm-3 am. I had been sleeping for about 5 hours. by then. Then I drove until about 6 am. Then he took over and around 9ish I took over and did the final two hours into Orlando.

We go this way also. Pulling the camper, DH feels much better going around the city than through it. And if we're hitting the city any time during the day, it's a good way to avoid gridlock.

Just remember when you reverse it coming home to pay attention to the signs coming back through NJ before you get to NYC. We've ended up staying on 95 once (and stuck in traffic on the G.W.), and once I completely goofed and we ended up in Philly!

Yes, we will be driving to WDW from NJ the end of the week and we are wondering about gas on 95 as well. Thanks for any updates on this.
