hi steve!!!! have a nice trip! :thumbsup2

Thanks as always!

As a side note on this thread. I haven't been out 78 near Cabelas area in a while. A few weeks ago we were out that way, and the west bound construction was still going on overnight. Backups were horrible. (Luckily we were travelling east at the time).

I tried checking the pa dot web site to see if it was over yet or not, but couldn't really tell. Anyone been out that way recently say between the hours of 2am and 4? I can easily bypass it, but would rather not if possible on our way to 81.

What an overnight storm in these parts! Our street flooded and the rising waters reached our garage before finally peaking and subsiding early this morning. We don't know exactly how much rain we received but the next town over got 7.25 inches, six inches less than Islip, Long Island! Unreal.

The WDW connection? If we had planned to leave today we would have been unable to drive more than a few hours because we're dead tired right now from watching the advancing waters overnight, examining the basement; etc. And the police rang the front door bell around 2:30 to check on us following a 911 call.

Whew.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Thanks for letting us know. I was thinking of you when I watched the news. We had almost nothing, so although I was glad it missed us, I worried about our friends in New Jersey.

It's time for the founder of this thread to take a 2,000+ mile round trip drive to WDW. :drive:

We'll be leaving within the hour for drive #33.

All the best! :thumbsup2

Briana was out that way on Sunday and didn't have a problem but she was out there during the day.

If it's still going on west bound I was going to exit at new smithville and follow old 22 to 61 at cabelas. I was really hoping the construction would be over by now, and it also seems to keep moving. Maybe I'll just take a drive out there by Saturday and see if I can figure out the best on off point.

Just joined the board, leaving for Disney next Thursday/Friday from Brooklyn, NY. Was thinking I would leave @ 12AM Thursday night Friday morning. Stop for breakfast and drive till Brunswick GA for a night stay at the Best Western Plus and get to Disney on Saturday late morning we can relax at the resort and start hitting the parks on Sunday. Does this sound feasible. Thanks in advance.

msmith11228: We will be driving pretty close to each other! We plan on leaving SJ (just outside Philly) at about 130am next Friday morning and will be staying over in Brunswick, GA as well (La Quinta I believe). I crunched the numbers and it seems we should miss the traffic around the major cities and get to Brunswick by early to mid afternoon. Honk if you see a green CRV with Jersey tags!

Don't go today, 78 is closed out that way. I guess an oversize load hit a bridge a little while back and they are removing sections of the bridge.

I am also new to the boards. I have long read them, but never joined. I will also be leaving for Disney at 12AM from South Jersey, but on Wednesday/Thursday. This will be my 4th time making the drive in the last 3 years. First time was straight thru, 2nd stayed over night in Savannah, 3rd stayed over night in Jacksonville and this time will once again be going straight thru.

How was it driving straight through? We're kind of throwing the idea around but are pretty nervous about it!

Ok I talked to a truck driver this morning at work. There are three things that were going on. Comcast stringing a wire across hue highway, span of bridge coming out and road reflector installation. Lol.

Leaving around 12:30am on Thursday....driving 95 from Philly. Any construction going on at night? Last year we hit some in DE, MD and Virginia.

We are leaving about 30 minutes behind you on Thursday am from close to the airport. We drove stratght throught last year and were checked in our resort and had a sit down dinner and were in bed by 8:00 ready to hit the parks the next day. :)

The first time I left at 7PM and went straight thru after working a full day of work. Tried to nap before for 3 hours beforehand...that didn't work out. I was pretty exhausted once I got there. Driving most of the time in complete darkness can be daunting with no sleep. My last two trips I did overnight stops. The last one we left at 3AM and stopped in Kingsland, Georgia. The hotel had these strange spider things in the beds so we left there and made reservations at a hotel in Jacksonville and drove there. After we booked the hotel in Jacksonville and arrived, I realized I would have been fine driving the 2.5 hours more to get right to our hotel. Unfortunately there were no rooms available at the resort for that night. So this time we are going to leave a few hours earlier so we can arrive at Yacht Club, walk over to Epcot and then head back to resort and chill at the pool/hot tub until crashing for the night. I will only be driving about 5 hours in the dark. I really feel driving the bulk of my trip in the daytime is easiest for me.

Did you feel like being exhausted that first night kind of put a damper on the whole trip in terms of having energy? This is my biggest worry. We're toying with the idea of leaving after work, like you did, around 6pm for an 18 hour drive, checking in and having dinner at Raglan Road and coming back to the room and go to bed early.

We leave from Northern NJ this coming Thursday, and we plan to drive straight through. We did this last trip two years ago and had no problems with being tired. We try to leave by 3:00 AM (I get 4 to 5 hours sleep first). We arrive after dinner, but get a full nights sleep and off and running the next day.

Good Lord, LOL. Maybe it's a sign and I should actually consider running 95 all the way down. :rotfl:

Lol. Ok, I was on tt33 today and they have signs up to tune to am1630. So I did. There are two highways in the Lehigh valley and they are going to work on both at the same time. Rt22 this weekend from airport road to MacArthur.
I78 starting Friday night around 11pm ( they don't say for how long) will be closed from exit 16 to exit13. That is Cabala exit , midway exit and bethel exit. They are advising west bound travels to take 222 south to 30west to 283 west. Not sure how long it is going to be closed for but I'm guessing the weekend.

That's a loooooong two days. Figure if your up at 6am Friday morning, work all day, leave after work around 6pm, drive 18 hours through the night, get there around noon Saturday. Then go out to eat. Maybe I'm just an old man but there isn't enough drugs in the world that would let me do that!! Lol
I would have to find a room or take a nap in a rest stop for a few hours to pull that off.
