Gas by us is $3.64. Was on DE for the weekend and it was $3.55. 95 was slow in Wilmington due to 495 shut down but not terrible.

Question for those experience drivers. We are driving down from southwestern Ontario and are stopping in Orangeburg but not sure where to stay on the way up. Want to do approx 12-13hrs. Any suggestions?

thank you, thank you......... don't forget to tip the wait staff! :rotfl:

so where are you staying in September? if you want to meet up in a park for a hello just let me know. we will be there from the 10th and leaving early on the 20th. I met a few people on this thread and they can vouch for me. im not a creepy stalker. :lmao: ( and here comes Sharon in 3....2......1.......) :lmao:

im still waiting to meet the elusive bc. I didn't think he really existed till he met my daughter in the magic kingdom and have pictures to prove it. :rotfl:
poor bc tried a few times to meet up with her and they kept changing her work location and times on him. he didn't give up!!!!!

Oooooh. Missed my cue LOL.

Actually I can say that our family has loved getting to know the DVCZerfs family and can honestly say we are friends. We may only see each other every year or 18 months, but when we're together, we're family. Now we know that Tammy is the sane one LOL and Briana couldn't be a more lovely and caring young woman, so......

We did meet BC and Mrs. BC and the were genuinely lovely and caring. We talked and watched the Christmas Castle Lighting Ceremony together. I felt like I knew them as soon as we met.

I have said many, many times that this thread is the best one on all of the DISboards. The friendships that we have made are proof of that. :grouphug:

Whereabouts in SW Ontario are you coming from? Looks like you're taking either 95 down or 81-77-26-95 down. Would it be any quicker if you take 75 and cross the border at Detroit/Windsor? I know that route.

I'm 45 min south of Toronto and plan on going the i77/i179 route I believe.

You'd be crossing the border at either Buffalo or Niagara, right? I don't think I can help too much (I live right off I-75 about 13-14 hours from WDW). You may want to look at Princeton WV. That's on I-77 on the WV/VA border, about 700 miles from WDW. I remember staying at a Days Inn in Princeton about ten years ago. However, I don't know how nice it is now. Most of the major chains are in Princeton

Good luck. :)

New to the thread and I am making my way through reading it all (on page 55 right now)
I have a couple questions for the experienced drivers

we live just outside Toronto and are leaving on a Friday morning to drive to Pottstown, PA to visit friends. we will spend the whole day there Saturday and leave early Sunday morning to head to Disney. I am the only one driving (DD's 10 & 12 with me on the trip) so we will not do the whole drive in one day. Planning to stop for the night and have a short drive to Disney Monday morning nice and refreshed.

My question for the experience from PA drivers Attn: dvczerfs
from Pottstown on a Sunday morning should I go with I95 or should I take the other route you always suggest?
I will be going Nov 9th from Pottstown, not sure of the weather situation as we have never driven before

Question # 2 for anyone that drives from southern Ontario. every person I have talked to has suggested a different route to buffalo. We will be driving home at the end of November, again with only me driving. I would like to drive about 14 hours from disney then stop for the night. What is the best route in the winter and where is a good place to stop?

thanks for the help

I love this thread!!!

Welcome!!!!

I am the next town over from Pottstown. I don't recommend Dave's route, you have to drive west for an extra hour to pick up that route. In early November you should have no problem driving the 95 route.

On a Sunday morning, you should have no problems through the major cities. You can go to 422 East, then hit 76 East to 476 South to 95. That will take about 1/2 hour to hit 95 in Chester. Then you just stay on 95, DO NOT take 495 West around Washington, stay on 95. Same with Richmond. Once you get through Virginia, it's all smooth sailing.

If you want to drive about 12-13 hours, I suggest Savannah GA, there are some great hotels there and you only have a 4-5 hour drive the next day. If you want to stop a little sooner, then Walterboro SC is a good spot. It's not as "upscale" as Savannah (if you can say that about hotels along 95 LOL) but there are some good clean hotels there.

Coming home, Lumberton NC or Wilson NC are good 12 hour or so driving stops along 95.

Any other questions, let me know. We'll be making the drive again this November too, just a little later than you!

Once again - welcome!!!

I am so excited, we are now leaving at noon tomorrow from Chambersburg, PA. I am taking dvczerfs advise, Thank you, and will take 81-77-26-95. Since we are leaving almost 2 1/2 hours earlier, I am going to stop over in Savannah, GA. Then we will only have a 4 1/2 hour drive left.

I am going to stay at a Red Roof Inn and will be glad to give my opinion on it after the stay. (Its reviews weren't bad so I am hoping it is OK.)

hello tinkermom76!!!! see below.... sharadoc took the words out of my mouth.
you would be doing some back tracking going 78/81. now if you were staying in Pottsville pa, that would be different. im only a few minutes north of 78 and you will be well south of me by the time you stop. leave as early as you can sunday morning. you wont have work traffic or shore traffic to worry about. there are a lot of drivers on here from that area that can give you more info on which way to get around the major cities. :thumbsup2

have a nice trip!!! :thumbsup2 (your welcome and don't tell your friends. tell them 95 is the way to go:lmao:)

I have a mile from point to point and time point to point chart if your interested. I posted it here but it was a while back. if you cant find it, let me know.

days inns are starting to make a come back. I remember in the late 70s when howard johnsons started going down hill, days inns where new and a nice place to stay. in the 90 and up to a few years ago, a lot of them along i95 fell into disrepair. now your seeing more and more days inns and holiday inns again. we use to always stay at the holiday inn in Columbia sc on the way down and the red carpet inn in polaski va on the way home. the red carpet inn was cool!!!! it had red velvet wall paper on the walls in the rooms!! :lmao: ok, it was cool in the early 80s and your in your early 20s. :lmao: they have since torn the red carpet inn down. every time we pass that exit, I remind my wife that's where................ she tells me " I cant believe we use to stay there!" :lmao:
I have just as many memories driving back and forth to wdw as I do at wdw. :thumbsup2

it is really strange how just an hour south of me, make a difference in which way to head to florida. if you are on or north of the i78/i81 corridor, then that would be the way to go. if you are south of the i78/i81, your better bet would most likely use i95. I did a trip tik from my house to okw in three different ways. remember, your rest stop times, speed all have a factor in it. I don't stop! :lmao: and when we do, we don't dawdle around. as far as speed......... I plead the fifth! :lmao: anyway, here you go:

my house using pa.turnpike, i95 = 1078 miles 16hrs. 27min.
(add construction to the turnpike to the factor and add an hour, and I didn't even hit philly yet)
my house using us220 i95 = 1081miles 18hrs. 5min.

(these are the two ways they "recommend")

I change the route to create a trip tik using 78/81/77/26/95/4
this is what it came out to:
1118 miles 16hrs. 20min.

I made my own charts on our driving habits but
for me, (Lehigh valley, Harrisburg area) using 81/77 works out better. the only major cities we hit is char. nc, jacks and Orlando. the chances of sitting in traffic is a lot less.

Yes so true. Even today some of the Days Inn are not all that great, but for the most part we have been very lucky especially at Port Wentworth.
