Bumping up our drive!!!! We will be heading out at 3am tomorrow morning instead of 7pm!! Trying to get out of here before the snow storm gets here. I am leaving from PA and the storm goes all the way past Richmond Virginia... hoping to be in the Carolina's before the snow starts. Plan on making a stop for the night in Kingsland GA.
Great idea! Drive safely!:scared:

A smart move on your part. We have adjusted departures to and from WDW because of the weather. It's the most important benefit of driving: the driver sets the time. Imagine if you had booked a flight for tomorrow night?

All the best. :thumbsup2

I'd stay over a night at one of the beaches and relax and then head home early the next day. We just booked a cruise for Nov. and that is what we are planning to do. I figure I have no idea how tired we might be after getting off the ship so we don;t want to start our drive home to PA that day. ;)

thank you!
That is what i consider the best...the only drawback, we will be back in NY on Monday and DD will have to miss another day of school...We won't be able to drive straight to NY on Sunday.
do you think it would make a difference in "car volume" 9 am vs 2 pm on Saturday? We never drove out of Fl at that time...

A friend in Bedford county says it is already snowing there. It wasn't supposed to start until tomorrow. If you could get on the road NOW, I would do so. You might be in the thick of things 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Looking at the weather map that looks like a different system.

We are up North, there is a squall going through, but the larger system is out in Erie. I don't know how far it is to star at your home, but the polar last is pushing heavier snow south. I would look at the further south radar for VA and see when it is expected to start. You don't want to drive into it.

This is a trip to avoid the western part of the states. Be safe, pull over for the night if you hit any squalls.

thank you!

I hear ya, my kids will miss extra school too as our cruise in Sun-Sun and we won't get home til Tues because we always stay overnight during our drive too. On a Sat the traffic shouldn't really change too much due to the time. We have driven many times back and forth from PA to FL on a sat and never noticed a difference. ;)

Oh I remember those days and don't miss them. Lol

We leave in 9 days and get to WDW in 11!!!!! Can't wait. DS thinks we're going in May. DD knows we're leaving in 9 days. Since we moved from Western New York to SW Michigan, we'll be hitting 2 new (to us) States, KY and TN. Can't wait!!

Thank you! we are still debating....might make reservations in Emporia for both Sat and Su and decide right after the cruise...

It's def. harder now that I have 1 in HS, 1 in MS and 1 in Elem.
We did not take a trip during the school year this year since the older 2 went up a grade and into a new school. Oldest ds says he's sure he'll be fine missign a week of HS next year, guess we'll see ;)

Briana went to Nazareth and they have that block sch. in high school. 4 classes per day and cram a year into a half of year with looooong classes.
at the time we didn't think we could take her out but we always had great teachers who gave her the work before she left. while the old people were napping, she did her home work. :lmao: she don't miss those days.

An interesting time to go to WDW. January and February are the only two months we've never been there. Someday, perhaps.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Road conditions along I-75 in Ohio were just awful today. Ice was everywhere. There were numerous jackknifed semi-trucks on the northbound side, some in the median, others having slid rightward into the ditch. One truck's trailer had been smashed open from the top and continuing down the side from the force of the accident. There was a smashup on the southbound side that closed 75 entirely at Wapakoneta; all traffic was forced onto a parallel county road and we rejoined the interstate a few miles south at Botkins.

Anyway, I made it to my overnight in Macon GA with minor delays, all things considered. Hope none of those motorists was seriously injured.

That's awesome! We are in the same boat! We are leaving the 14th of Feb but kids think we are going in May! Thought about getting them up an saying let's go to Toronto for the weekend! (about 4 hours from us...we are in S ON) and when we just keep driving, they will be so confused! Then when the part of the drive where the kids are getting totally restless and cranky, we can let them in on our secret, so they will be happy again! Can't wait.

Have a great trip!

That sounds absolutely frightening. Glad you made it to your destination OK! We went to WDW in December a few years back, and we were all ready to drive for the first time, but we got gun shy because we weren't certain how the weather would be so we flew instead. We came home to about eight inches of snow. It was bad enough driving the hour home from the airport in that. I couldn't imagine 6-8 hrs or more. And that's nothing compared to ice.

Does anyone know where I can find where construction/repairs are planned on I-95? We are driving from CT to WDW in June and returning in July

Thanks

there is a website people use. hang in there, someone who uses it should be along soon.

I don't use 95 till I hit the Carolinas but I can tell you unlike up north, in the south, in most cases if they are working on two lanes, they build two lanes next to it so the construction don't snarl traffic for miles like up here in the north.

heck Jacksonville has been under construction for at least 43 years that I know of. :lmao:

We normally drive to FL in (mid) July but decided this year to go during the winter break in February. We also usually take the I-81 route from MA but I am concerned about that route in the winter. Maybe I-95 is the better choice this time?
