One wonders if some folks don't understand that if you live about 1,000 miles away from WDW, you become a 2,000+ mile round trip driver. :confused3

In any event, since it's September, we can finally say: Our next drive is next month! Gas prices could be, ah, interesting at that time.

All the best. :thumbsup2

On the road now headed back to NY, just south of Albany. We are thinking of avoiding I95. Can someone tell me if this is correct? 26, 77, 81, 84. We just want to avoid traffic on 95. Any thoughts? Thanks. Oh and I can't figure out how to get this in my TomTom.

On our Garmin Nuvi which wants to take us on a different route than the one we like, we put in via points (other destinations along the trip) using the route intersections where we would change roads for example: our Garmin wants us to take I65 to I24, we like to take I57 to I24 so we add the intersection of I57 and I24. Don't know if your TomTom allows this but if it does it is one way to prevent that awful "recalculating".

While none of us like to pay more for gas, even if it goes up 50 cents per gallon, if you figure on using 100 gallons to get there and back, it will only add $50 to your budget. Of course, I'd rather use that for extra Mickey bars, but it really is minimal in the cost of the whole trip, LOL!

So true...especially regarding the Mickey bars! :goodvibes

We're slowly preparing for our 30th WDW drive next month (our first drive was in 2002).

All the best. :thumbsup2

:lmao: oh ya, she has a few. :lmao:

the only thing im going to say is it takes a special type of person to work in the parks. but for the most part, she loves it.
she likes the people she works with, even 99 percent of the guest. loves the little kids. she was working in storybook circus and a little girl ask if she could touch her costume. told B she was pretty. :rotfl:

she emailed me this one day. I had to laugh.

Are you travelling soon? Let us know your questions, and folks will do their best to answer.

Also, there are three previous versions of this thread which can provide all sorts of info on driving 2000+ miles to/from Disney World. You may enjoy reading those. Same titles, just use search. :thumbsup2

We leave 2 weeks from midnight tonight!! I can't believe it's almost here!

Coming from Hershey, we decided to do 95 the whole way, and not the inland way. When I google map it, we get on 15 to I-270 to I495 around DC then I95

what are some of the best rest stops we should aim for? We don't plan on any long stops, just gas, pee, stretch legs a bit...

I know we need to stop at the florida stop for orange juice...and when I was a kid I remember stopping at South of the Border (are there a million billboards for that still??)

Hoping the kids will sleep a good portion of the night hours and maybe even some daylight hours, lol Leave at midnight and hope to get in by 3 or 4 does that sound right?

We don't leave for another month .Long overdue. Just a suggestion if you stay on 15 all the way to rt 66 then take 17 south that would put you in fredricksburg just below DC and avoid all the DC nonsence.and we always stop at the florida border welcome so my wife can do a dance around her first florida palm tree. and south of the border is one of the best reasons to stop for no reason at all except to stretch and look. have a great trip

hey feet!!!! are you still leaving Thursday morning sometime?

what we do is take i81 to i66 to i17 and that will pick up i95 just north of Richmond. not sure what time your leaving but try not to hit Richmond at rush hour.(like any major city) 17 is similar to 15. you hit lights and go thru towns but it generally not to bad.

we are still leaving at 1am if you change your mind. :rotfl:

The nicest rest stops are in the Carolinas, they are just rest areas and not stores/truck stops, etc..

We don't like to go off the road if necessary, so truck stops are the second choice.

This year we plan to buy lottery tickets from each state as a souvenir, fun thing to do. We also make sure we get some Stuckey's nuts which are DELICIOUS!!!

Florida Welcome Center is great - you can go in and get some brochures and flyers in the Central Florida section and everyone can read them all the way to Disney. It helps to get new excitement going!

South of the Border looks dirty, creepy and a big rip-off. We would never set foot in there.

It's two posters who have been very active on these driving threads for four years or more and are setting up a meet and greet. Many posters on this thread do that, that's why we're the friendliest and most helpful thread on all DISboards.

Great advice and so much good information, it can take a week to read it all!

It was June, the year Briana graduated from high school. I think it was 2011. That was the year we had adjoining rooms at CR - TPV LOL. We had the AP room, bottom floor overlooking the monorail. That was cool!
