Thinking of taking the autotran for the tripback from Disney to Virginia the we have to drive to northern Nj. Priced it out 540$ for 4 and the car 17 hours and that includes meals. We are def stopping on the way home halfway for hotel +gas +fast food what do you guys think our trip down is different visiting family 1/2 way so we have a free night . But the way home I just want to get home it's the $ I'm trying to figure out.

One way is probably fine since you would avoid a full up or two and meals am a hotel. I priced it for round trip and it was going to cost more than flying so I didn't think it made sense.

Great idea in your situation. I reserved the auto train back in Sept. so we could have a relaxing trip at the end of vacation. (Then added down when prices dropped.) A room is great but probably too expensive for 4 as it would take 2 rooms at a minimum $138 each! Coach is roomy. Be early and see if you can get downstairs or front of the car. Check out the auto train thread for tons of info and there is a great trip report with lots of pics. You can also google auto train and find a wealth of info including photos and car layout plans.

We are in the way home now. Left Pop at 4:15am and arrived in Onley, MD at my brother's house at 8:00pm. Long day and still 4-5 hours to CT tomorrow. Missing The World.

Was able to book the Sweet Seats 3D dessert party for Oct. 4 so now to make our reservations for Disney. We let our AP's expire and will get new ones when we get there - first time in 6 years that we didn't renew. That extra 3 months that they gave AP holders that one year, threw off our renewal date from a time that we usually visit and I hate to have to keep track of the will call paper receipt for a couple of months. Now at least our AP will expire around a time when we usually drive down for my birthday.
Hubby has to take his yearly tax preparers course and found that there is a two day one offered in Nov. in Orlando. He is thinking about taking that one - I can visit the parks while he is class and we can get a nice dinner and a little park time at night - maybe even take in the MVMCP after his class is over. So now I have two trips to plan.

It's good to see a post by crusingkat. For newcomers to this thread, see page 1 for crusingkat's status on the All Time Records roster!

All the best. :thumbsup2

Thank you. I live right across the river in Camp Hill just off 581 (the bypass) and grew up in Dillsburg - right on 15, 10 miles south of Harrisburg. It is a very nice area with Lancaster, Gettysburg, Hershey right here, and easy to get to NYC, Philly, Pittsburg, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. for day or weekend trips! New England is only a little further. If not the world, at least the northeast is our oyster.

I was wondering why I wasn't getting updates. I wish that when you subscribe to a thread, when they close one and open another the subscription updated, too.

We're leaving this afternoon for the drive down, but I'm being bad, we will be coming home Labor Day weekend, so I decided to book the Auto Train on the way back.

I am planning to take 81, 77, 26 route. Is that the right order and the right highways? It's been a while and we only took this route once. I want to avoid the shore traffic. Thanks.

I had to wait 11 months one year. never again!

crazy / broke :lmao:

hi Sharon!!!!!

HEY!! We are going to be 15 1/2 months between trips this time. We usually do 2 a year. It's been a rough year, and by the time this trip comes, we will be READY!!! We did decide to stay on-site, we thought we would save some money and go Bonnet Creek but we don't think we can deal with that LOL.

If you were on 15, then you passed by Gettysburg. We are about 25 minutes west of 15 in the mountains (ok, foothills to people out west) and our town is surrounded on all four sides by Michaux State Forest. And yes, it is a very pretty area. We are an hour south of Harrisburg. I think the area around Harrisburg is not very pretty though!

Yes! Dillsburg looks great! I loved the landscape from the route and homes seem more reasonably priced than where we live in CT so I'm assuming taxes must be lower too.

SHARON!!!! how is everyone doing??????? we have to get together...... it is just one thing after another. kids go back to school Monday around here, summer is over all ready. ill text you brianas number when your trip gets closer. you will have to ask her about her buddy the squirrel!!! :lmao: it seems there are two squirrels over by pirates that hang out by the pop corn and nut cart. they hassle the cast members working the cart and the one crawled up her leg and on to her shoulder. :lmao: she flipped out!!!!:lmao:

she is ready for fall. she said she is tired of being wet all the time. :rotfl:
we leave in 19 more days, again. I think I can drive it in my sleep anymore.
where are you staying this coming trip?

I think we all should have a signature thing for our cars so that when we are all on the road "95" we know who's heading to Disney that would be fun.

I seen a mini van today around 6pm on i78 east near the Lehigh valley hospital with ct plates. was that you? :rotfl:

Thanks. I thought so, but with the new thread starting & me not getting updates I haven't been on here for a while. Thanks for letting me know I haven't completely lost it.

We are about half way across VA. We started out at 4:30 from Whitehall, PA. Stopped for gas twice so far. Maryland was $3.79. Virginia was $3.37. Big difference.

Ha! We were home sweet home by that time!
