LOL, here's an effect from being a regular Disney driver:

We are working on budgets for next year at work. There is a major conference in Chicago that I may want to attend. First thing I say is, "I'll drive if anyone wants to come with me. We can save on airfare." They all looked at me like I had 2 heads. I on the other hand thought -it will be less time than a Disney drive.

I can't imagine flying at this point!

ughhhh, have you driven west yet??? oh i had to drive out to ohio every so often for work and you get on the otherside of bloomsberg on i80 and wow. tree, tree, tree, farm, tree, tree, tree, farm, walmart, tree, tree, tree,,tree, farm, tree,it dont stop.:lmao: id rather drive to florida and back 6 times before i drive to ohio again. :lmao: i also use to fly into ohare and being a driver myself, i think i would drive it if i had to. everytime i get into ohare something happens. gate gets changed, planes brakes, dudes with the robes and tamborines come up to me.:lmao: 10 billion people in an airport and they pick me out of the crowd.:lmao:

hi bc!!! i stopped at b&n book store tonight and they didnt have it on the shelf. i just got done ordering a copy on line. ill let you know when i get it. looking forward to reading it.:thumbsup2

You are most kind. Thanks. Once you read the book, you'll understand the reason for our multiple visits to WDW and DL!

All the best.:thumbsup2

I hate O'Hare! But I've only been a passenger out that direction when we visited relatives in Michigan. I did do a road trip with friends through Buffalo to Niagara Falls, across Canada, into Sault Ste. Marie and finally Duluth. Saw a moose!

It will be our first big drive and we plan on eating out at night, does anyone bring food to eat in the car? And if so what do you bring? And what are some essentials for packing?

Hello Neighbor,

I have done the drive a few times. We too pick up dinner but eat in the car. I bring bagels for breakfast and sandwiches with drinks in a cooler for lunch. I dont want to lose to much driving time with food breaks. I also pack the bag of snacks. My husband always want something to crunch (pretzels) when he drives and I try to pick up snacks I usually don't buy to treat the kids. our list this year is twizzlers, string cheese, apples, pringles, rice crispy treats, pretzels.
granola bars. We are leaving in 1 1/2hrs and my food is all ready to go.

we have a cooler with iced tea and coke and water. theres a local deli that we pick up sandw. the day before we leave. we have a plastic tub that we put our snacks in. cheezits, cookies, pretzells, slim jims,:lmao: do you want me to go on.:lmao: we also go through a drive through quick, we never stop for a sit down meal. but we eat while we drive. we also bring most of the snacks home with us but like dw says, you never know what your going to be in the mood for.:lmao:

wow!! :thumbsup2 (you changed your picture again.):lmao:

Awesome! Our kids think we are driving to a "ball game" out of town. Thing is...they don't really like baseball and will be totally shocked. My ds was saying today that he really didn't want to take a car ride to see a stupid ball game when we could go to the Little League World Series instead (in our area).

Are you video taping the surprise? We are going to video it with the video camera and my phone so we can send it to all of our family and friends that know about the trip.

Wow, how about the Clinton county team this year. :yay: I think they play tonight. Best of luck to them, I am North or the I 80- I 81 junction.

Well, we left our house in PA yesterday at 6:35 pm, with very dark, ominous clouds looming. We were fairly lucky and hit only the edges of several storms.

The weather slowed us down slightly for the first hour, but we didn't hit any significant traffic. Here are our times:

6:35 pm leave home (Collegeville, Pa)
7:17 pm enter Delaware
7:45 pm enter MD
9:00 pm - 5 minute bio break
9:35 pm enter Va
12:10 am - arrive at our hotel in Emporia, VA

I hope to leave here at 8:00 am to go to St Augustine, Fl (DS wants to see the alligator farm there), before completing our drive to WDW early tomorrow afternoon.

So far things have been smooth, probably due to all the great advice of the people here! :thumbsup2

Ah, Emporia: a frequent overnight stop for us on our return-home drive.

Now then, since you are only 11 miles from the VA-NC border, you've only got about 7 1/2 hours (give or take 30-minutes) of drive time to the FL border. You'll be able to receive your courtesy drink of OJ or grapefruit juice at the FL Welcome Center. After that, it's just three hours to WDW...unless you stop an an alligator farm! :lmao:

All the best. :thumbsup2

I am about 1070 miles from WDW and an hour and 10 minutes from the Del Memorial Bridge (after crossing I am on 95). I have found that leaving around 2:30 am, it takes around 15 hours of actual driving time to reach WDW. Now of course you will need gas and bathroom stops, and any other stops you choose for food or to stretch your legs. And then there are the unknowns such as weather (rain, snow, hurricanes), traffic issues or accidents, and the temperments of traveling mates. But overall, even with stops/delays reach the orlando area 6:30 - 8:30 pm. With minimal stops and clear sailing, the trip has even been under 16 hours.

According to Google maps, I am 1077 miles from my front door to WDW so you guys are really close to me. I was thinking of driving our next trip so all this info helps. Thanks!

Our last two drives we stopped for food on the way down but this time I am packing it. I figure we are saving money, I can make it fun, and we can spend our stop time running around at a rest stop instead of more sitting.

My kids car trip essentials are a blanket and pillow each, and then they have toys/books and coloring books. Need to make sure I have batteries for the leapster...

We need two new tires and an oil change and then I have got to clean the heck out of the minivan before we go. :yay:

Yes...the opening parade was nuts....twice as many people as usual. They expect more people tonight for their game than for the usual crowd at the championship game. It is exciting though:banana:

Hey neighbor! Wonder if we know each other?? Continued safe drive! Did you go down 202 or the Blue Route to hit 95?? On another driving adventure, I figured out we can cut over to 30/Lancaster Ave. in KOP and pick up the Blue Route in Villanova rather than go down the Schuylkill. May not save a lot of time, but felt like we were saving miles!! :rotfl:

Leaving tonight from Michigan.... taking I-75 all the way.:banana: Car almost ready, oil changed, tires rotated, air filters changed, interior vaccumed and floor mats in wash machine. My DH will be proud :thumbsup2

Now if I can only calm down enough to get some sleep before we leave.
