It is our pleasure to follow the wise words of the experieneced dvczerfs: There's a big difference between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. in and around Jacksonville. And, to be sure, it's the same siutaion in and around any city or metro area. The 3 p.m. time is definitely better; however, you'll be hitting the end of rush hour by the time you drive through Orlando on I-95.

All the best. :thumbsup2

For some reason, traffic around Orlando doesn't sound bad at all.

We have been very lucky with traffic in the Jacksonville and Orlando Areas. We usually have trouble around the Lake Norman and Charlotte NC areas. We try really hard to plan our driving around rush hour times, but with three kids in the car it can be near impossible to stick to a plan.

when you hit i4 off of i95, there will be the, what the state of pa calls, amber alert signs. they will tell you how long it will take to travel i4. it will say something like, exit10, 10 miles, 10 min. if it says exit10, 10 miles, 30min. your going to hit traffic. we have been lucky, (knock on wood) weve hit alot of traffic over the years in those areas, i hit jacksonville at 5:00pm this past december, but we kept movong 60-65mph. ive never sat in orlando but that could be a bit of a race track. :lmao: just keep in mind, you can hit a wreck at anytime that will jam up everything. last year i hit i95 from i4 on the way home at 4:15am, had to detour off i95 because of a semi had wrecked and they closed i95. if that ever happens and the gps is going nuts, follow the trucks. all ways follow the trucks. in the winter, not sure if the roads are icey and you see the trucks slowing down and in the right lane, its icey. if there going 90 mph on i95, theres not a state trooper to be found. if you see them all of a sudden moving over and slowing down, TROOPER ALERT!:lmao: just watching what the trucks do will tell you alot of whats going on. if theres a wreck ahead and the right lane is closed, they will all start moving over into the left well before you see any jam up.

Hi friends! My DH, me and DS10 will be driving down from Nebraska this May again (1,477 miles one way!) with another family following us. We LOVED driving last year!
My question is, we don't remember exactly the route to WDW from the Florida Turnpilke. I used google maps just now and it shows us going to the I-4. I don't think we went that way last time. I remember someone from here told us a route that used "Western Way". Can anyone help?
If it matters, we are staying as ASMovies. Thanks for any help you can give!:goodvibes

just looking, i dont come down that way, but it looks like if your coming down i75 to florida tpk, that i4 looks like the way to go. unless theres a "side" road that you turned off of? maybe someone will be along that comes down that way to help you out a little more.:thumbsup2

Can anyone help???
My SIL may be cruising out of Tampa...what is the best way for her to get there if she comes down 81-77-26-95? Follow down to I4 and cut across or come south on another highway?

I was wondering this myself because I know last time we stopped at the Disney Welcome Center on I-75 (which is no longer there :( ) and they gave us a map with a way to get to the Contemporary via 192. I know we did NOT come in on I-4 because we missed our exit to go home the same way and ended up on I-4.

I still have the map where they highlighted the route but I think I'm missing exactly how we got on 192 in the first place.

It was also before the "western way" was done. Anyway on my map, it has us coming in via 192 and then taking World Drive. We were west of I-4.

what exit off the turn pike did you take?

192 dont run west of i4 only east towards kissim. the only thing i can see if you got off the tpk. at winter gargden and came down 27?

you got to break out the atlas girls!:lmao: that gps and google stuff is fine for the novis.:lmao: (go ahead say it, dvczerfs must be an old guy!):lmao:

I have no idea...I don't remember how we got on 192, that's what I was trying to figure out...I know we stopped at the Disney Welcome Center made ADR's for dinner that night and the person at the counter asked where we were staying, gave us this map and highlighted the route.

The map STARTS at 192 and above that is a picture of Disney's Animal Kingdom and it has an arrow pointing "To U.S. 27" toward the left but it doesn't show U.S. 27 on the map anywhere. Basically we were on 192 heading away from U.S. 27 and toward Kissimmee.

Unless I'm mixing up my directions (quite possible)...it shows I-4 to the right hand side of World Drive, since I am assuming the left hand side of the map is West (that's why I said west but now looking at it we had to be driving East since we were following the highlighted route). Basically we turned onto World Drive from 192 before we even got to I-4...if we hadn't turned on World Drive and kept going straight we would have got to I-4 near exit 64B according to the map.

do you recall how you got on property? did you go under the welcome to walt disney world sign or was the sign on either side of the road? i cant figure out why your we on 192? 192 was suncoast parkway in the 70s and early 80s. it than changed to arlo bronson hwy. we use to stay at the days in (were old town is now) in the 70s. back than, there wasnt much around. if im not mistaken, i havent been that way for a while but going west on rt192,pass wdw, rt192 ends and you have to turn right or left. i dont know those rt numbers or road names. maybe they brought you in that way for some reason? you would of not been on 192 long.

looking at a newer map, 192 runs below or south of wdw. its pos. that 192 meets up with 27. it just dont show on my map. my map runs out at that point and its to small for the main map.thats a good tip for the people coming in from the west of wdw.:thumbsup2 going to i4 off the turnpike, your passing wdw and driving back in to it. going 192 will also keep you out of the i4 traffic.

:rotfl: I'm old, my brain can't remember that much....it was in 2005 that we went and frankly I think we did a "tourist slide" (or as we know it called Chicago slide...although that usually involves making a left turn from the right lane on a 4-way highway! :lmao:) once we got onto World Drive when we were trying to get to the Contemporary because I knew we had to be to the right hand side through the toll booths but we almost went TOO far right into the bus lane -- at that point I wasn't driving so don't remember.

I definitely know the new Western Way didn't exist at that time because I remember reading about it opening here on the DIS after our vacation.

If I could remember more it would be so much easier! I'm pretty sure we were on another road before we got to this part of the map continuing to go south before we met up with 192 but I can't remember it at all...so was trying to figure it out. Unfortunately, I think there were written directions that went with this map that didn't quite make it all the way back home intact. I was actually thrilled I found this map again. I want to say we passed a Wal-Mart but I have no clue if that's correct anymore but I do believe we paid a toll before we actually GOT on 192 (or maybe a toll to get onto 192?)....however, I haven't the foggiest idea what the road WAS. I was actually searching today to see if I could figure it out when this part of the thread popped up. I so wish the Welcome Center was still open because I would stop there again and get the full directions to go this way again. It was a really easy way to go if I could just remember it all. :lmao:

I am just looking at Mapquest and best I can figure out what we probably did was:

I-75 - Florida Turnpike - 27? (since 27 connects to 192).

I'm wondering if this would be the better way now though (mapquest has us going this way):

I-75 - Florida Turnpike - 429 - 535?

:lmao: well, theres a walmart on every street corner anymore so thats no help.:lmao: you got me with the toll. sorry i was no help, i come down on the east coast and the past 10-11 years, the only time we leave wdw property is to go shopping at publix the day we get there.:thumbsup2
