Myself, my 7 year old daughter and my boyfriend just returned from our first disney cruise - the 1/3/09 Eastern on the Magic. I was so worried about going. It was so expensive, I had never been on a cruise ship, my boyfriend was kind of discouraged about doing a disney theme again (we went to the parks twice before). I had heard great things and figured it would be nice, but never expected anything like what we experienced. It was absolutely fabulous. You have nothing to worry about - Disney takes care of everything you can think of and then goes above and beyond your own thoughts. The food is fabulous - I think second seating is better because there is so much to do it is hard to find time to get cleaned up for dinner. The entertainment is nothing short of magical. The weather was great, the pools were fun, the service makes you feel like you are royalty. They know how to move people so that lines for anything are never very long at all. It is organized and beyond clean.
Ports: St. Croix seemed a little underdeveloped in the main sections, but we were the first cruise ship there in 10 years according to the customs man. We did the Carambola beach break and spent 5 hours on a beautiful beach, snorkeled and had a fantastic lunch. The tour was 15 minutes late so Disney gave us an unasked for 10% refund.
St. Thomas was very nice - wish we would have done a beach thing there so we could swim in that beautiful water.
Castaway Cay is the best of the islands. Clean, convenient - perfect. There are enough chairs and equipment for everyone on the ship. The best snorkeling is here in my opinion. It's Disney's island so of course they do everything better than everyone.
Tip for dining: Animators Palate only changes colors once - dont miss it!!
By the end of our cruise, we were all almost in tears that we had to leave. My skeptical boyfriend now wants to live on the Disney Magic and can't stop looking at pics and videos. It was by far the best vacation ever - 10 times better than the parks. My expensive once in a lifetime cruise will now be an annual ritual. I swear that magic really does happen on that ship.
