Footwear at water parks???

We just went to Hurricane Harbor at Six Flags in NJ and were told we couldn't wear water socks on the slides. Of course there is no place to leave your shoes near the rides, so we got a locker and put our water shoes and flip flops away until we were ready to leave. First, walking barefoot in areas away from the rides, like the bathrooms and dining areas was truly gross. Second, I was a bit worried the kids would step on something - goop or something sharp, etc. YUCK! But, I got over it and we survived and had lots of fun.

We always wore water socks or waterproof sandals on everything at Sesame Place, so this rule caught me off guard.

We are planning to go to both water parks when we go to WDW next fall, so now I'm wondering what footwear is allowed or recommended at those parks. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Also, our kids will be 7 and 9 next fall - which of the two water parks will be most appropriate for them?

Thanks!

My family and I went to BB in May, 2005 and we all wore the water shoes and they worked out great. We saw some people walking barefoot and some places the ground can be very hot. I hope we can still wear the water shoes for our 2007 trip.

I had to buy water shoes at bb when I was there in may 2006. The ground and the ridges in the water so you will not slip was tearing up my feet.

I walked barefoot over the summer and burned the bottom of my feet soooo bad because the ground was so hot. I did hear lifegaurds telling people to take off their water shoes before they got on the slides. It happened more than once. I guess you're not supposed to wear them on the slides but I'm sure it also depends on if the lifeguard will actually say something.

We went to Typhoon Lagoon in May and brought water shoes for my family. My youngest DD is 4 and has to go to the bathroom all the time. I think that going into a public bathroom barefoot is a truly gross idea so i made sure that i brought them with us. My oldest DD did not want to wear hers and my husband looked at me like i was nuts when i pulled out a pair for him. DD4 and I wore ours the whole time. No one told us that we couldn't wear them even on the slides. They do sell them at the shop in Typhoon Lagoon.

You are allowed to wear water shoes everwhere EXCEPT the body slides. Then you are told to hold them on your chest/stomach while you're sliding.

I found this out the hard way on summit plummet, and let me tell you, if you can hold on to them on that ride, you can hold on to them anywhere!

A little OT, but go look at the lifeguard chair at the bottom of Summit Plummet after getting off. He's usually got a treasure trove of items. Got my waterproof camera and money holder back from him (they came out of my secured pocket)
