I think most of us will have heard about the latest in a long line of footballers to be shamed in the papers and its really starting to bug me!

Im from a huge footballing family and have been brought up knowing nothing but watching the beautiful game, but i think some of todays footballers have gone mad. I look to my heroes growing up like Alan Shearer, Gary Liniker, Thierry Henry, David Beckham, Ian Wright and although im not saying they are 100% whiter-than-white, they were good role models to have.

As a kid I suppose your only bothered about what there like on the pitch, but as you start to get into your teens you start to read abit more about there off the field antics and the players above are to me good role models. But if i had kids today I look at the England squad and they make me cringe.

All on £70k per week plus the likes of Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Peter Crouch have all been involved in scandals cheating on there wifes and now Wayne Rooney has been caught with a vice girl while his wife is pregnant.

It just annoys me, these guys are in a position millions of people would love to be in and they completley abuse it. But then the other side of it, all these wifes/girlfriends that they cheat on take them back for the money!!!

The world has gone mad when it comes to footballers!!!

Sorry about my rant, as a huge football fan its really just left me annoyed that again theres another scandal!:confused3

To be honest I don't have any time for any of them. They're overpaid, nannied, big headed and try and hide behind their team lawyers. I can't be bothered with any of them .... well except David Beckham :lovestruc

most footballers annoy me, unless they put on a Pompey strip then I just turn a blind eye;)

And they think they won't get caught either, of course they will, oh and you've missed Stevie G and Glenn Johnson off your list of naughty boys.

I couldn't agree more with the OP, but there are still a few good role models for kids out there. For example, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Jamie Carragher. Unfortunatly these guys are in the minority and they are older players comming to the end of their career.
The problem is the kids coming into the game now are getting crazy salaries at the age of 16, rather than serving their time cleaning the changing rooms and polishing the boots of the senior players.

Someone who has impressed me recently is Theo Walcott. Again not somebody known for the wild life style, hes engaged to his GF and seems really down to earth for 21. The other thing that has impressed me is being dropped for the Wolrd Cup, he didnt sulk, hes gone away, worked hard and is now playing as well as anyone, there should be more role models like this in football, but on £30k a week its hard not to get dragged into a lifestyle.

I dont agree with any of it but I do quiet like Frank Lampard and wanted to clear his name I think you mean John Terry

Frank is perfect :cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

The same Frank who's been involved in video tape scandals, loutish 'behaviour towards Americans in a Heathrow bar on 9/11 not to mention the obligatory cheating on his wife that most footballers seem to enjoy...

The way the culture of **most** footballers these days is openly looked at by the over intrusive media doesn't help, yet there is a lot of 'unrolemodel-like' behaviour from them

:goodvibes

I can't stand their behaviour particularly when they are spread across ok magazine talking about their perfect marriage and family life grrrrrrrr!

What I find worse is the wags that stand by them and put up with it, I can't believe kids look up to these women!

I have boycotted football for a while I refuse to endorse these overpaid, underplayed idiots.

Just goes to show what money does for some people as no female would look twice at Wayne Rooney for his looks. :rotfl:

David Beckham is a different league altogether :lovestruc

i never heard any of that i dont really follow what any of them get up to but that is terrible if its true ( I just read about it on wikipedia he is off my list now disgusting)

i never knew Frank was ever even married though

I think one of the good things about supporting a smaller team (Watford) is that I can go to matches and just enjoy the football played by what we knowingly believe are mostly decent professionals!

But let’s not just point the finger of shame at the likes of Rooney, Crouch and Terry, remember this sort of stuff unfortunately is just part of everyday life and I'm sure there are plenty of professionals from not only the lower leagues of football but other professions that are guilty of similar crimes.

I'm in now way defending these overpaid fools but remember it is only because they are high profile players that we hear of this stuff!

The problem is a lot of these footballers who get into trouble are not the brightest by any means.
You only have to see rooney, crouch , Ferdinand for example interviewed to see that.
They are not role models and do not set a good example to young kids at all.

If you look at a lot of the glamour girls that are always in the news, a fair percentage of them at some time have had a footballer as a partner. Money has to be part of the attraction.
