Hi all. I'm trying wayyy in advance to plan a possible trip to WDW. I'd like to take my mom to a "happy place"... she's going thru a very rough time at the moment. Her uncle died on Dec. 7th after a long illness. Then my grandfather (her father) died on Dec. 11th after struggling with cancer. Then my dad died suddenly of a heart attack on xmas eve. It's been a very tough month on us and to make matters worse, they had been going on a vacation to St. Martaan in February which she's obviously cancelled. Anywho, I"d broached the subject of "getting away from it all" and she'd expressed some interest in going in the spring to WDW (fairly memory free for her)... my husband and I had been sort of planning on going this october for the f&w fest. My mom would enjoy both. So my question is what time of year is better crowd-wise, weather-wise, etc. for a newbie with not much patience (my mom)?? My husband and I have been 3 or 4 times to the F&W fest and enjoy it immensely - that's our preferred time of the year to go. So which should I choose and why?

This is all preliminary planning at the moment... she may feel that October is too soon for her to go away. I feel like May is too far away :)

I'll shut it now... haha sorry that turned out to be a book! :earboy2:

KLW ~ First a huge :grouphug: to you and your Mom. The poor lady. She must be in such shock. I have been to the World both in May and October. I prefer October. You can attend 2 of the best events WDW has to offer MNSHP and F&W festival. The crowds generally are low and the weather awesome. If you time it right you can get some good discounts. Your mother would probably enjoy the MNSHP its Disney at its finest. And October may give her enough time to be able to start to enjoy things again . That said, May is also enjoyable but it can be much hotter and depending on when you go more crowded ( Mothers Day, Grad nites and Memorial Day). We happen to be going in May this year but I'm secretly toying with going in Oct also. I miss not going to MNSHP.

I am so sorry that your family has had such a tremendous loss over this holiday season :guilty:

I think that a trip to Disney would be perfect to treat your mother to. I have been in the fall the past two times I've gone to DW, however, never in October or for the F&W Festival. The crowds are not bad at all when I've gone and the weather is ALWAYS beautiful. My family even swam during our last stay (in a non heated pool) :earseek:

I'll say a prayer for your mom and I hope she decides to go with you this fall.

I'll join in on the hug :grouphug: We will pray for strength and peace for your mother, as well as your family.

With that said, you can't go wrong with either month. We have gone in May many times before and are actually heading there this May. It is very nice, though a bit hot at times. It can be a little crowded but then again you are in Disney World. The biggest problem we run into are the nights that MK closes VERY early for seniors to rent out.

We are also going again this October. This is our favorite time to go and try to go every year. The weather is beautiful, the crowds are there but again, this is Disney, and you have MNSSHP - we LOVE this. Then, last but certainly not least, as you know there is the Food and Wine Festival: great food, great wine (and beer), a great culture experience, great bands, GREAT TIMES!

Either way, though, you can't loose. Have a magical trip and God Bless. :flower1:

Thank you so much for your hugs and prayers. We're fighting our way back slowly... one step at a time, one day at a time.

Thanks also for your opinions... I"m still hoping to convince her to do October and she knows that's my preference. Keep your fingers crossed!

Best of luck and keep us posted on what you decide. Have a Disney day! :earboy2:

My heart goes out to your mom and your family. So sorry for your losses.

I've been to both festivals, and both are great. However, I prefer the F&W festival. It's more festive and I love trying the different foods and seeing temporary countries. The weather is better too. But it also depends on what you're interested in. If you like gardening and plants, you might like the flower festival better. I hope you have a great trip whatever you decide.

Does your mother garden? My mom loves gardening so I took her to the Flower Festival. She loved it. We took the garden tour which was a big hit!

I love the Food and wine so who knows?

The other thought is that April in Disney might be nice after the winter people are having up north
