and i will need to be able to open it w/out a corkscrew - or can i stop by a restaurant and get a waiter to open it for me?
I'll be there last wknd of F&W but need a bottle for 2 days later - I do have fridge in BCV studio

Due to the bubbles in Champagne there is no need for a bottle opener just a little pressure with the thumbs under the cork once the wire holder has been taken off is enough. Have a glass to ahnd though incase the Champagne comes pouring out.

BTW technically it can only be called Champagne if produced in the Champagne area of France, other wise it is Cava or sparkling wine :)

Claire ;)

If you find a bottle of champagne that doesn't have a cork I don't think you should buy it, let alone drink it. :rotfl2:

You don't need a corkscrew to open a bottle of champagne - you just push up on the cork with your thumbs. And be sure to point to bottle away from any people in the room with you (unless you want to put an eye out).

I'd buy from France, personally, but it's all a matter of taste. You should browse the selection at the F&W merchandise center - they'll have several champagnes to choose from there, including some that are being featured during the festival.

what a good way to turn 50! drinking lots of champagne
thanks - I'll take a look in France

BTW - I wouldn't advise letting your champagne sit for two or three days once you've opened it ... it will go flat and that's just nasty (and a waste of champagne).

Does France sell champagne all year round? or just during the Food & Wine?

You know, I have never had a champagne cork pop out violently fast. I usually remove the foil, twist off the wire cage, then twist the cork out slowly because I don't have the thumb strength to do it the usual way. The cork always pops out more gently that way.

Newholidayx2, I'd plan on drinking the entire bottle of champagne the day you open the bottle. You can't really recork champagne and the bubbles will go flat within hours. And keep it cold, please!

I'm a fan of Pommery champagne, which would be in France. Folks around here speak very highly of the Rosa Regale sparkling wine in Italy, though. I plan to try it this trip.

I agree! Nothing worse than letting champagne go to waste! That's why I always finish what I start! :rotfl:

You also might want to try the Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvee. It's made just for Disney. They sell that everywhere, even in the resort shops. :thumbsup2

Cheers!

P.S. Happy early B-day!!! :dance3:

Oh, oh, oh, great idea! I knew there was a reason I decided against ordering champage on my garden grocer order!

The Rose Regale Champagne in Italy - its a red bottle, red champagne that tastes of berries - mildly sweetish (not overbearing sweet, not an oaky flavor)

I imagine in France or Italy where you would purchase the sparkling wines you can ask if they have a champagne TOPPER - its a silver color top that has a rubber stopper in the center - you push it on the bottle then push the metal over the lip of the bottle - it will stay nice and bubbly for a week -

Just recently a california wine was giving them away with the champagne - KORBEL Brut - I've seen them for sale at grocery stores in the wine department as well - I have a couple as I travel with them and give them away!!

I also have to cast my vote for the twisting method of opening a bottle of sparkling wine. Pushing the thumbs underneath just increases the risk of the cork flying and wine spilling out. And while that looks like fun in the movies, I don't see the point in wasting good wine.

To open a bottle, simply peel off the outer foil, remove the wire basket on top, and then gently turn the cork in one hand while holding the bottle steady with the other. The cork will pop right out (you should feel it start to come), and no wine will be wasted. The only time I've had a cork come out really quickly is when the bottle wasn't chilled - well, the outside was cold, but the inside was room temp! Uck!

The best champagne my DW and I have ever had was Veuve Cliquot Brut. It comes in a green bottle with an orange label and retails for $45 to $55 per bottle retail. I believe that you can get it at EPCOT "France", but you will likely pay a lot more there. IMHO, it is OUTSTANDING!! :thumbsup2

1) Not true.
2) But, a good story, anyway.

Actually that is 100% true. The only champagne is the world is produced in the Champagne region of France. All other sparkling wines are just that. No other wine may legally be called champagne.

That stuff is wonderful! And if they are still selling those wonderful puff pastry thingys with the chocolate sauce, get one of them too. They go great together!:yay:

You have me sold, I will be on the look-out for it this October. But how do you pronounce Cuvee? I feel like such an idiot when I butcher the names of food when I try to order.:headache:

And if by chance you have some leftover champagne, mix it with orange juice in the morning for a mimosa!!
Happy Birthday

Absolutely! In fact I know some people say finish it or it will be flat, but I've managed to keep sparkling wine for a couple of days & have it still be bubbly. Just keep the foil wrap to put back over the top & it should last a day or two longer. :thumbsup2

Another vote for Rosa Regale- it totally different from champagne. it is a banfi wine which is a sweet red sparkling dessert wine.

the POP- pommeray brand sold in france is also good and not a budget buster. We also like faiytale cuvee but it is a californian sparkling as opposed to the pop.
