Day 4 (Monday, 1/27)

Lunch – Pecos Bills
Chicken Wrap, ¼-pound cheeseburger w/ fries, kids hotdog combo, and large coke
Total Cost: $20.00

Nothing too special about this place – although I thought the fixins bar was pretty good. I enjoyed my burger but it would come to haunt me a bit later. DH enjoyed the chicken wrap but commented that there was quite a bit of mayonnaise. Typical counter service and the prices weren’t too steep.

Dinner-Marrakesh
Drinks: two sodas and a milk
Dinners: Shish Kebab, Chicken Kebab, kids hamburger
Total Cost (w/ tax and tip): $65.51

We had always entertained the idea of trying this place but never did because we always tend to gravitate back to our favorites. Even this time, we only ended up here because Teppanyaki had an hour wait and the Disney server was down so there was no priority seating. In retrospect I wish we would’ve waited the hour – but DS would’ve never made it. There was no wait here (which might’ve been a sign) and when we arrived (around 7pm) the live show was just starting. We were all a bit tired and cranky, so perhaps we weren’t in the best frame of mind for this show – but the music was SO LOUD you couldn’t hear yourself think – let alone eat. (And we were in the back of the restaurant.) We got our drinks and took one drink of the water and almost choked – it tasted horrible and left an awfully strong chlorine aftertaste – so we were forced to order soda, which didn’t make me too happy because I almost exclusively drink water and so does DS. I’ve come to realize that January is a big training time down here, but for the money you are paying there is still a limit to what you can take. Our server was awful – and whoever was supposed to be supervising him, wasn’t. After seeing about three other tables that sat down after us receive bread I realized we were supposed to get some and asked. FIL ordered an appetizer – the chicken patilla – and it was horrible. It was literally petrified – he couldn’t even cut it with a fork and knife. I had a taste and it was like eating wood chips. Still no bread. We are hoping that our meals are edible. Finally the live music stops and there is a reasonable noise level in the place. Our meals come and DS says “I guess we don’t need our bread now” which finally triggers something with our waiter and we get our bread five minutes later… The meals were actually okay. The shish kebab was tender – but the chicken kebab was very dry. MIL seemed to enjoy the chicken couscous. However we all agreed that none of the meals was worth the money. For some reason my FIL braved dessert – and they brought him the wrong one which he ate anyway. On the way out, he asked another waiter if the patilla was supposed to be that dry. He said no. Oh well – we can check this off our list of places to try. Food: 2, Service: 2, Atmosphere: 3

Day 5 (Tuesday, 1/28)

Lunch-Wolfgang Puck’s Express
Drinks: large coke, bottled water, milk
Meals: pizza margerhita, caesar chicken sandwich w/ fries
Total Cost: $23.00

This is a cute little café – but there are few seats inside and the express thing can be pushing it when the line backs up. But our food came pretty quickly after we placed the order. The pizza was just average as far as gourmet pizzas go. The sandwich was big and there were a ton of fries (which were crunchy like Burger King fries and cold – this might’ve been from sitting outside in this weather). Overall this is a good place in a pinch and pales in cost factor to the other restaurants in the Marketplace area – but I thought it was overpriced – even on a Disney scale.

Looking for the rest of my journal... will post more if I can find it!!

We've never tried Marrakesh either but I've been getting tempted after reading these boards. Didn't realize that it was noisy. It's just dropped down again for me. Again, thanks for posting.

Wow! Our experience at Marrakesh couldn't have been more different. Even our noise level was fine. Sorry you had such a bad experience there. You don't read a lot of reports that are negative about that place. BTW, the mint iced tea is absolutely wonderful and you don't have to put sugar in it if you're not into sweetened drinks. If I were you, I wouldn't want to try it again either after an experience like that.

We've been there a few times (last time was Oct. 2001), and the food, service and entertainment were always excellent.

I absolutely love the food there. I usually get the grilled sampler, which lets you try a little of everything.

The music wasn't loud as I recall. Our 4 year old daughter got up and danced with the belly dancer - we have some great video and pictures of that.

Things can change of course, but maybe the poster caught a bad night.
