Food Porn for Nothing! What foods has Disney taken Away?

I've been actively eyeballing the lovely food porn posts and am becoming rather distressed at the number of food choices being modified or deleted by Disney. I was looking forward to trying Twinkie Tiramisu, but alas, some Disney-wonk decided that I am not capable of monitoring my own trans-fat intake on my vacation. I would "deal" with wheat buns, though unhappy, but to not have something available at any price is ridiculous!!

Now I read that the filet is going the way of the Dodo. Anyone have others that are gone, modified or otherwise unavailable in the form the average disney-goer would expect? I know I probably sound crazy, but eating is part of my enjoyment on my vacation, and having these kinds of kinks in the works is really starting to depress me a bit.

Anyone have other to post, so I can resign myself early to missing certain items?

I know that Spoodles has done away with the dessert sampler that they used to offer. Totally bummed me out when I read about that because it was a great way to try all their desserts without committing to just one (I have real issues with picking just one dessert).

I'm sure there are other things that I just haven't discovered yet but I'm already prepared to be disappointed when we get to WDW in October.

What???? Pop doesn't have Twinkie Tiramisu anymore? I've been talking it up for a newbie I'm going with in a couple of weeks. I can't believe they've done this to me. :sad1:

NO WAY!!! I was looking so forward to trying that dessert sampler at Spoodles...

I thought of some more although some of these have been gone for a while now ...

1) The tuna pita at ESPN Club, which was quite possibly the best tuna sandwich ever on WDW property.

2) Fresh hand-made donuts at the Boardwalk Bakery (Krispy Kreme is not a bakery donut in my humble opinion).

3) Beaver Tails in Canada

4) All the wonderful, creative drinks that used to be available ... the Shipwreck, the Espresso Chiller, the Oreo Mintini ... sigh.

This thread is starting to depress me ...

Just back. lots of disappointment, many places little better than the variety of an Applebees, and for foodies like us a huge disappointement--WDW used to be just as much about the food as an attraction, not so much anymore. Barely a filet to be found, the lower cuts of steak had a significant amount of unetable gristle. etc. We were able to get Figaro Fries, albeit modified, but the CM at the register asked if I wanted tomato and lettuce-they come on the side and shared that ranch was available in the salad dressing area with the condiments. The lack of interesting menu items combined with playing food police left me actually wanting to use the decorations in the villa that can be used to cook. I ahve not cooked in years except breakfast--but really cereal in the bowl not cooking so much!:lmao: ALways viewed it as a vacation form cooking and an opportunity to try lots of interesting new things. I'll be cooking since my pasta for four tastes better than pasta at Tony's and cost half as much as one entree. Cost aside, I have never really had issue with Disney pirces for food so long s the quality and variety were high and interesting. Give me Applebees or Olive Garden type food with a four fold price tag and I have issues. We'll be offsite or cooking more often next vacation.

That's such a shame. The hubby and I have never minded the food prices much at WDW either as long as we felt like we were getting good quality and had interesting menu options to choose from. The food has always been a big part of our WDW vacation ... I guess we're going to have to start changing our thought process.

Thanks for the update.

Jiko no longer has the appetizer for two.

Le Cellier removed the balsamic strawberries from the dessert menu (which is a shame as it was one of the few desserts I liked).

My dd and I are very upset that Coral Reef has deleted the Crab legs off their menu. The only time she got excited about a restaurant was when she saw the crab legs on the menu. We are not big fish eaters. How could a seafood restaurant not have crab or lobster (except for the soup). :confused3  :confused3

Don't blame this on Disney trying to make the menus healthier. That's just their excuse.

You can put the full blame for this state of affairs on the DDP. And perhaps a point that someone (I think it may have been Brenda) made over on the F&W Festival thread, namely, that Eisner at least seemed to understand that WDW (in order to attract repeat customers and those who avoid amusement parks like the plague) needed to be more than just an amusement park with hot dogs.

The current CEO and his team clearly don't get it. Dh and I had last been to WDW in 1987. The food was so poor we eliminated it as a vacation spot. Ten years later, after reading many good reports on the renaissance in food and wine, we decided to give it a try and were suitably impressed with the improvements. We've returned at least once and sometimes two or three times a year since.

It seems the current leadership is determined to return WDW to its earlier incarnation. We don't spend our vacations and our hard-earned thousands at Six Flags. And, we won't do so at WDW either, given the way things are going.

What a shame!

I am so sick of hearing about this or that being taken away and the prices just going up and up. We are a couple with no kids who have chosen to spend most of our annual vacation dollars at Disney, since 1999. We always went for the variety and the 'specialness' that we were provided, whether it was the tuna at ESPN Club (I SO miss that one!) or the V&A meals that we have indulged in over the years (and even their menu isn't changing as often as it used to, and has been pared down to less courses).

Our planned trip in October may be our last for a few years based on the way things have been declining.

Totally agree. Disney was not on our list of vacation destinations this year and based upon the steady decline in restaurant performance it will not be in 2009. Food is part of the vacation festival and if a destination can not provide upscale dining there are tons of other vacation destinations that easily beat out Disney without making diing reservations 180 days in advance.

A large majority of my regular eating includes hamburgers, hot dogs and wheat buns. So WHY in the world would WDW think if I am on vacation I would want to continue eating the same way? Instead of staying home, I flew 2 1/2 hours to eat a hot dog? :confused3

Getting back on topic before this turns into another "I hate Disney and Disney hates me" thread...I heard they stopped serving the grilled poundcake with carmel sauce at LTT for lunch....I only got to have it once (last year):sad1: ...but YUM!

I heard it was replaced by a toffee cake, that I've heard is delicious.

I don't mind them changing menus at all, and most restaurants do at one time or another. I don't blame the DDP at all either, since it really isn't even a savings anymore, and usually just about breaks even cost-wise.

ITA! Also, I just do not understand what is up with all of the negativity that is going around in the Restaurant Board lately. :sad2: Whether its a rumor or a menu change, negativity is very strong right now. I may be one of the only ones left who just doesn't feel like complaining. :confused3 It is all about perspective. Me, a college student, who is tired of the chain restaurants, cheap bistros, lounges, and semi-gourmet dives that is located in my area can find a whole bevy of wonderful restaurants and snacks located inside WDW. So no, I will not complain one bit.

I think I read the Fried Cheese is gone from 50's cafe? if so it can be on the list

Yes they did and things got ugly when I found out! Not really, but I did give the waiter a hard time about it since it was the ONLY reason I was eating there. He felt so bad for me that he came out the a printed recipe for the pecan/carmel topping. I tried the toffee substitute and it was good, but nothing like that pound cake!
