My brother and his GF just went a couple weeks ago to DL after work for a nice dinner waterside in the Blue Bayou. Both had been there before and thourghly enjoyed their meals!

This time, they were eating a late dinner (9 pm) and ordered the gumbo and steak. As the title said...They ate...got out of there about an hr. later after eating dessert and paying when they both got food poisoning :crazy2:

They of course run into the the 2nd showing of Fantasmic and keep being directed by CM to areas away from the show..and away from the bathrooms. Well, long story short, the one place you don't want to be sick is at DL at that time. They did make it to bathrooms...but had problems the rest of the night. They said the bus ride back to the cars was sooo long! :confused3 Luckily, they had a hotel room for the night since they didn't want to drive back so late.

We were all so surprised they got sick, and they said it was okay. They thought maybe DL was just finishing off the gumbo for the day and it hadn't been kept hot enough throughout the day..as it was Luke warm when it arrived at their table. When asked if they would go back, they said yes! They just wouldn't have the gumbo again so late in the day ;)

Oh man, that sounds awful. Did they call back or anything? I understand if they didn't want to make a fuss but they probably should have said something if for no other reason than that nobody else gets sick.

The people I am with always want to eat at the BB but I just am not impressed. I am vegetarian and can only get one thing on the menu and it is not good. Borderline not edible for me. Can't beat the atmosphere though! But just floating through there on Pirates is enough for me heh.

I got food poisioning while at DLR back in February and the only place I could attribute it to was Blue Bayou. I ate the crab cakes, which they did not try and I was sick the rest of the weekend. Luckily it wasn't too horrible, but it took me down for the rest of one day. I hate saying that it was for sure, but I literally did not eat or drink anything else that the rest of my group didn't have except that one meal.

And I should add that I would go back, but I would probably never order the crab cakes again just on principle :)

I've had food poisoning thats sent me to ER twice over the years but never at DL. Both times DR's said it would have been something I ate 4-5 hours prior as thats the gestation period for food born bacterias etc. Dunno if they're right in most cases but both times I had eaten just about 4 hours prior.

That's exactly what happened to me. I ate at BB around 10:30 and by 2:00-ish, I was at DCA and started to feel crappy. I went along with my group back to DL and went on Indy, HORRIBLE MOVE. I spent the rest of my evening dead at the Hojo, only to wake up to the sound of fireworks that I sadly missed and literally couldn't bring myself to the balcony to watch :(

Please, if you get food poisoning report it! The only way to fix the problem is to report it.

Is the timing right for food poisoning from the BB? Just asking because the gestation period is about 4-5 hours (as a PP mentioned). Seems like it hit them pretty hard. :( Such a bummer to be sick at DL, luckily I've never had it happen to me. I'm glad they didn't let it bring them down, I hope they get to go back soon!!

I do agree that they should probably let the resort know though, just in case. :)

Wow lots of replies!

Yes, I tried to get them to report it but I think they were too embarrased/really didn't care enough/couldn't completely contribute it to the sickness to report it. Both ate the same thing and got sick at exactly the same time which is what was so weird. Would be strange if they both ate separate things at lunch and just happened to get sick at the same time down in DL...too much of a coincidence. :confused3

I had usually heard 4-5 hrs. for food poisoning, but I think maybe since the nerves of getting down there on time on a fri. night, and the rich food it might have gone a little faster?

IDK . They seem perfectly happy with going back again...but like I said before they are definately staying away from the gumbo if it is later in the day :goodvibes

Actually now that you've said that, last time I ate at the DLR BB I had crab cakes for dinner, and during the night I got really sick. Spent the whole next day on the couch in the lobby at the PVI

I've got ulcerative collitis and just contributed it to a sudden flare up of that, but now someone else has mentioned the specific meal I ate that night... :scratchin

Who knows, it was 3 years ago now :joker:

Just for the record, on Saturday night I had the Surf and turf at Blue Bayou and felt just fine. It was fantastic!

Yeah, I hate to say that about a reputable place, but it was definitely FP and that was the only thing I ate that day. Right before I got sick I had a couple drinks at cove bar (I was sans child this trip hence expensive meals and mid-day drinks, lol!!) I thought it could be just a bad mix of the food and alcohol, but it wasn't like I was drinking heavily. And it hit me bad, like can't move out of bed or function bad. The drinks and rides probably didn't help, but it had to have been something I ate. The bummer was that it was a quick weekend trip and I had to drive back to Sacramento the next day

Seems a little quick to have come from the gumbo, I'm guessing they picked it up earlier in the day. Could've been something they got on their hands that made it's way in to an orifice! Too bad they got sick.

Food poisoning is a horrible experience and it can easily wipe you out for days.

That being said, it is extremely important to remember that the pathogen or bacterium that causes food poisoning can reside in the digestive tract for hours, days, or weeks after ingestion, and can then be triggered by a variety of things. Additionally, two people having food poisoning at the same time does not necessarily mean they ate the same food. The poisoning could have come from a counter top where two different types of food were set and picked up the bacterium.

I understand that we all want to believe that correlation equals causation (i.e. I did x, then y happened, so x must have caused y). However, correlation is terrible evidence of causation.

If someone does suspect they picked up a food poisoning pathogen from a particular restaurant, the local health authorities should be contacted immediately if for no other reason than to ensure that future guests of the dining establishment are also not poisoned.

To add to the above poster, you should also go to the hospital, where they can determine it was food poisoning and not just an upset GI tract.

If you were ill, there should be more people out there ill also.

A lot of people don't understand food poisoning, and when they get a GI issue, will blame food poisoning. There is a lot more to it. It needs to be verified and reported.

This happens often. I have family members who claim to get food poisoning every time they eat a rich meal or Chinese food. Eating a meal with a high fat content on an empty stomach can easily end up with the result the OP described.

Having food poisoning varified is very important. Going to the emergency room as an out patient to have a stool sample examed takes just mins when you are having food poisoning symtoms. Let the health dept know if you have suspected food poisoning. They should go the the restaurant and measure tempature of food they are serving that is pre-prepared such as the gumbo and crab cakes before they are fried. I try to stay away from seafood, seafood soups when dining out. It is to easy for for seafood to be prepared that is just at the turning point. I will only buy and only cook sead food that smells like the sea or that has no smell at all. Since we all do not have same sense of smell.

Remember no restaurant wants to seve you food that gives you food poisoning.

I want to go back to the BB. I will not have seafood. I will have the Monte.

See you all there :)

I was told by a doctor that food poisoning can be from something you ate up to 72 hours ago. My niece and her friend went to breakfast one day, ate the same thing and got sick within minutes of each other. They were positive they got food poisoning from it. Turns out they had the flu but even when their temps hit 101, they swore it was from breakfast.
