I know this was on here before but it's gone!
A friend of mine was wondering what snacks she should bring for her dd and it reminded me of that thread.
One thing we are taking down with us is a few packets of Swiss Chalet sauce to have with roast chicken (we're renting a house).
Anyone else?

I am not certain but I think I remember reading online that you couldn't get Kraft dinner.

I believe you CAN get KD down there, but it tastes weird. Same with Corn Pops (I don't actually like Corn Pops in the first place, but my family has passed that information on with me)

Some that I can think of off the top of my head include Smarties and Coffee Crisp.

I'm also interested in other responses.

UPDATE: Plum sauce triggered my memory: Vinegar in restaurants! You can always buy a bottle in the store, but if you go out and want vinegar for your meal, take some with you!

They don't have plum sauce, and look at you really strange when you request it for your chicken fingers.:confused3

They don't have ketchup or all-dressed chips. Also, if you like Wheat Thin crackers, the ones they sell in the States are different than the ones in Canada (I like the Canadian ones better).

I agree the KD in the States tastes strange. I have bought the shape ones for my son before and he wouldn't eat it. Then I tasted it and knew why.
If you are staying at a house go to one of the grocery stores there. They have some really good snack stuff for kids. I am close to 2 US borders and I shop alot in the US. I am always finding great stuff for my kids there. Also they have a Motts apple juice with less sugar. I buy it everytime I am over there.

When I first read the title of this thread, my initial thought was -

OMG - their economy can't be THAT bad! If there's no food available in the US, it would kind of put a damper on our Free Dining vacation. ;)

We took lots of chips and candy to my nieces - ketchup, dill pickle and all dressed chips. Candy - Smarties, and a bunch of other candy sorry I didn't pick it out so can't remember the types.

You probably wouldn't bring these for snacks, but my all time favorite.....drum roll........VACHONS....especially Caramels!

I LOVE US Corn Pops. IMHO, They are way better than the canadian ones, which I won't even eat. I make it a point to pick up a few boxes every time I cross the border.

Smarties! Well, that's not true, exactly. You can get them at the Canada Pavillion at WS in Epcot but they're a pretty penny!

We always take a box of packets of Tim's coffee.

Oh yes, I KNEW I would forget something! Vachon cakes! I wanted to take Joe Louis and other Vachon cakes for the kids, I'll have to do that next time. As it was we took 2 big bags of chips & candy.:thumbsup2

I live in IL and we have ketchup potato chips, as well as dill pickle, and salt and vinegar. I had to look up the all dressed chips because I've never heard of them and haven't seen any.

We also have Smarties, like these http://www.smarties.com/index.html but I'm not sure if this is the candy you're referring to.

Most of the restaurants around here have malt vinegar if they serve fish, but some don't. Any restaurant would have white or brown vinegar in their kitchen.

I was recently very surprised and happy to find a local store that sells TimTam's. A friend sent us some from Australia and these are the best biscuit/cookie ever!

'Smarties' as Canadians know them, are kind of like M'n'Ms.

I always find it kind of cool to look at differences between American and Canadian products and food. Even though so much is the same, there are always some subtle distances.

This kind of makes me want to buy a package of US Smarties, offer them to my (Canadian) friends, and act as if they're "normal" Cdn smarties. :rotfl: (and I hope someone else finds that idea funny, or else I'll look like a compelte idiot)

Anyways, that's all I have to say for now!
Thanks Vijoge for the update! My family will be pleased about the ketchup chips for sure!

I do know that the grocery stores around downtown Disney do carry alot of English food products. I know that some are the same as Canadian products. My Mom is English and I have been many times and do love certain products and always pick a few up for our stay at WDW. I know they carry some candy, Robertson's Orange Squash drink-those types of things.
Happy Shopping and a have a great trip!

I live outside of Buffalo, NY...I can't get ketchup chips, but can get dill chips(they taste a bit different), smarties & areo bars. So be careful if someone says you can get something in the states!

I personally find I enjoy Canadian Coca-Cola to American. Theirs just seems more carbonated and...just different! Granted, they get Cherry Coke which I always have to bring back when I head over to the states shopping! :)

I agree. American Corn Pops are way better than Canadian Corn Pops, in my opinion

Cheaper produce and bread! I shop in Buffalo NY 2 times a month and these are what I buy at home since they cost equal to or more.
