Has anyone ever packed food in their baggage for a flight? Or basicaly had a box that had food only such as water bottles, sodas, snacks, etc in the checked in baggage. I was thinking of bringing or beverages-snacks with us rather then having them deliverd. My worry is that the sodas and waters may freeze or expode in the belly of the plane. I know that there are weight limits but I've checked what they are and we will be with in the limits. Any ideas? Thank you. :thumbsup2

We've packed food, but never beverages. Before the days of the DDP we'd pack breakfast items (individual cereals, bars, etc.) and snacks in our bags. I, too, would worry about liquids freezing and exploding. But, the food has always been fine.

We didn't pack waters but we did pack cups of oranges in juice and applesauces, both of these were fine in checked luggage.

I too have been wondering this same question. I read somewhere that WDW doesn't have any pepsi products on the resort!? We are avid Pepsi and Cherry Pepsi drinkers and are serouisly thinking about bring some with us, but are afraid of them exploding mid-flight!

As for the water bottles, we are storing our empty water bottles and are going to pack them in our luggage. It saves on weight and we can just fill them up and put them in the fridge/freezer once we get there.

I alway put any liquids, shampoos etc. in zip lock bags - We went to Australia and all of shampoos exploded all over our clothes. Have used ziplocks ever since. :thumbsup2

I always pack dry food--crackers, granola bars, donuts, gummy snacks etc with no problems. Just a hint--don't pack one bag with clothes and one bag with snacks exclusively. Mix it all up (as long as the food isn't messy). If the airline happens to lose/delay one of your suitcases you would hate to be at the hotel with an entire suitcase of Goldfish and granola bars and no clean clothes and toilitries! I never pack one bag (going) with only one type of thing--like clothes for only one or two members of the family. I tend to pack more in terms of "days"--here is everything in this suitcase we need for 3 days, and then 3 more days in this suitcase. . . make sense? This way if one suitcase is delayed (I have had them delayed by 2 days, but never lost--knock wood!), we still have everything we need to be off and running and dont' need to stress about buying clothes and underwear for 1 person!!!

BUT, I had some leftover Cokes a few years ago (we bought them during a grocery stop there) and put them in my checked luggage. YEP, they EXPLODED! The checked luggage area is usually not pressurized, and I think there may also sometimes be a temperature difference that can affect contents under pressure like soda and shaving cream. I think it can also pop potato chip bags.

I will never do that again! It was a mess. Normally I would probably just pack a few in my carry on (it would survive fine in the cabin) but since you can't do that anymore you are going to have to learn to love Coke, water and/or Kool aid!!!

I usually pack shaving cream in Ziplock bags also. The only problem I have had with Shampoo type products is just when too much weight was placed on top of my suitcase and that forces the lid off.

We also bring empty water bottles (I have the Brita type) and I am also bringing those new Kool-aid single serving powders with us for the kids and I like some of the single serve Crystal lites for myself.

We packed one suitcase for our June trip with non-perishable items. We packed things like dry cereal(so we only had to buy milk), granola bars, cookies, teddy grahams, etc. It worked out really well. Some mornings, I was not really that hungry whereas the rest of my family was hungry. They ate food from the ASMo food court, and I just got a small container of milk and had cereal. It did save quite a bit on the food cost!!!

Last year we packed a lot of little snacks (chips, crackers, cookies, etc) and those Kool-Aid pouches (like juice boxes, only Kool-Aide). We didn't have any problems with things exploding, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. We then used the suitcase that had all of the food to pack our souvenirs for the flight back home.

Thanks for all the good posts. I especially like the idea about the single serve pouches, we will probably try those! I'm hoping the airlines will lighten up on the liquid ban from carry ons by next May so we can just carry a couple cans of pop on with us!

We bring lots os single serving thisng. Granola, fruit snacks, pop tarts. I even went to a restaurant supply store and bought these bowls that have cereal inthem and they are great. We buy milk at the hotel. We don't take time for breakfast in the am so we are ususally eating a granola bar on the monorail.
