I read that food in your checked luggage is sometimes read by the scanners as bomb material and ofted everything is torn through.

anyone taken food in checked bags? did you have trouble?

We brought back some food in our checked luggage and when we got home, there was a sign saying our luggage had to be checked. Nothing was missing though. :flower: Now, I'm not sure if the food was the cause of the extra security. Can't imagine what else would have triggered it though.

took dried food, canned food, bread, in luggage bag to hawaii with no problems
however it was several years ago, 2002

I travel with food in both check and carry on no problem. I have done this 1/2 dozen times since 911. Sometimes my bags get checked and sometimes they don't. :confused3

The warning concerns "dense" food products; things like big slabs of cheese, large quantities of solid chocolate, smoked meats, etc. On an x-ray they are solid, like something lead-shielded, so they have to physically see what they are.

Don't put perishables of any kind (or liquids in glass bottles) in checked baggage. If the glass breaks your other things will be ruined, as will those of other passengers. If your bag is lost, perishables may rot before you can reclaim it, again ruining the rest of what is in the bag (not to mention the lovely probability of maggot infestation.)

Hello!
I used a whole suticase just this past may for food. I took the premade bowls of cereal, granola bars, fruit snacks, and muffins. I also brought about 12 waters. I put them in plastic bags (3 to a gallon size) and opened them so that they wouldn't burst under pressure(just a precaution). I had no problem with my baggage. Everything was there when I arrived and nothing was smushed.

We fly a bunch, always take snacks of some sort or another, and have never had a problem. Last fall, we took an entire large suitcase of snacks and drinks (including soda and water in plastic bottles) to WDW. Because of a problem at Check-In (My blood pressure still goes up when I think about how badly we've been treated by Delta!!!!), we got to see our bags being sent through the different scanners at the airport. The bags zipped right through, and we were on our way. No problems.

I was thinking of packing food for our next trip in October. Was considering soda/water too.

What have your experiences been with those things? How should I prepare the liquids for flight? Should I put them in my Carry-on or Checked luggage? Should sodas be in cans or bottles? :confused3

Thanks!! :love1:

Was to Soda in plastic bottles as well, did you have to open it prior to so that it wouldnt explode?
