If we can make some of our own snacks, we could save quite a bit of money.

So, all of you expert Dis-er cooks, what are your favorite recipes to "make and take?" Reply with your recipes that travel well in a car or plane and can be taken to the parks.

Thanks in advance! :wave2:

Trail mix! Easy to make and you can put the things you like in it.

Chex mix is also a good one.

First of all I want to say GEAUX TIGERS to you (and go Wildcats of LC also). Pop tarts, breakfast bars, meal replacement bars, cereal bars,.. My personal favorite is the precooked bacon- put it between bread, in a ziplock and I have a sandwich which will keep for hours. Obviously lunch meat will spoil, but the bacon seems to do well. A little dry but fast, no cooking, easy to carry, and who does not like bacon? Then again there is always the potted meat/viena sausage route...

You've GOT to be kidding me, WishUponAStar......I graduated from LSU, my DH graduated from LC..(I didn't know that anyone on here would know anything about LC  ) Also, I LOVE that precooked bacon, too.

Ahhh, LC. We were there a couple of weeks ago to see the bball game against ETBU. My parents went to LC, Grandfather helped build it, aunt has given large sums of $ to the music department, even have our family name on the large quilt in the student center. LC is very special to our family. As for the Tigers, a cousin runs the tigertoons website, and I am glad baseball season is warming up. Take care.

Just something to think about guys when bringing snacks on an airplane. I want to share something with you. My son is severely allergic to nuts. On our way to disney in Aug. of 2003 (he was 7 years old at the time) we had a stop over flight from boston on our way to Orlando. I think it might have been in phily. Anyway, my son pulled his food tray down during the flight. I told him to put it back up because they were not ready to come around with drinks or snacks yet. Within minutes of pulling down his tray, he began to have an allergic reaction. I was very confused at first because he hadn't eaten any thing to cause the reaction. He could not swallow because his throat was swelling. To make a long awful story short, I administered his Epipen and we had an emergency landing in Jacksonville where he was rushed to the local hospital, treated and released later that night. What had happened was, he somehow got walnut on his hands (confirmed by bloodtests) and touched his face. It had to have come from the tray on the plane. If the person sitting in the seat before him had a snack like a brownie with walnuts or something and the tray was never scrubbed afterwards, all my son had to do was touch the tray with traces of walnut on it & then touch his face. Now before we fly we notify the airline ahead of time. Before boarding, the airline will announce for us that there will be a child on board with a nut allergy and they ask the passengers to please not board the plane with snacks containing nuts. I'm not trying to freak people out :scared1: but rather just trying to inform. I'm also a pediatric nurse and you would not believe how many kids have nut allergies! Thanks for listening :listen:

We love the baseball, too. We went to Omaha last year to see the leadoff batter and centerfielder on the team, who is from our area, play in the College World Series.
Again, oddly enough, we have one h.s. basketball player who is going to ETBU next year and one who will probably sign with LC.

Excellent point. Maybe we should specify which foods would be good for planes and which would be good for traveling in cars. Thanks for your input! Did it wreck your trip too much?

Our trip was still great. We did have to drive from Jacksonville to Orlando in the downpouring rain though! On the ride to Orlando my son threw up in the car (from all the meds in the ER) and my daughter (was 10 then) was crying hysterically from exhaustion. My husband just pulled over to the side of the road and put his head on the steering wheel in frustration. I on the otherhand, laughed hysterically :rotfl2:
When he asked my what I was laughing at I told him I needed to either laugh or cry. Pretty soon we were all laughing. When we finally checked into our hotel around midnight we all looked like S**T!! The next morning we woke up and had a blast as usual!

I'm glad that all of you are going on a nice, long trip this next time. Those poor babies (if you are like me, they will always be your babies!) deserve another go at DW. (and so do both of you!)
