HI!

Our daughter turns 1 about a week before we go to WDW. If I can get her to stay on jar foods that long I think that might be easy. However, if she is on soft table foods by then I am nervous about what I can feed her there.

I am not so worried about TS meals, I am sure I can find soft foods there, but I am about the CS ones. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could take for her to eat, or that I can get there? I think I will take bananas.

Also, what about milk? Can you order warm milk from counter serviciis?

Thanks in advance :)

I know you can get milk there, atleast chocolate milk(I'm sure they have regular milk too). But its usually cold. But I'm sure you could let it sit out for a while to warm it up a bit, especially if you are eating outside. ;)

As for the soft foods, they do have childrens menus at TS places. Its usually small burgers, hotdogs, chicken nuggets, that sort of thing. Depending on the order and restaurant, it also comes with a fruit/veggie, which might be soft. I would bring bananas or other soft foods just in case. I know in Magic Kingdom at Toontown Fair, there's a stand that sells fruit. So you can get some more bananas if you run out.

My son never had jarred baby food and I never had a problem with him at disney or on the cruise. We went starting when he was 6 weeks old and about every 4 months or so from then on. There is tons that a child can eat that is soft and mushy. Applesauce is available at counter service along with goldfish crackers and many other things that she will be able to eat. Does she eat any table food right now?

I always kept with me in the diaper bag though a thing of applesauce, pears or peaches (dole cut up chunks), a nutri grain bar and a container of noodel rings, I think by hormel. He has only ever eaten it at disney in an emergency but ate it just fine. I actually think it is good. That way I had enough for a whole meal if ever needed or to supplement at other meals. Of course I also always had cheerios.

I doubt you can order warm milk, we always gave it cold out of the fridge, maybe you could start making hers a bit colder and colder everyday until you leave? I knew I wanted an easy child when we traveled and it worked out great! Have fun!

:) anything soft ya can mush up would work. My dd was a picky eater when she traveled she ate alot of cheerios and she also liked meat and she ate alot of fruits and mushed up veggies!

almost all the dining areas carry milk and the hotels!

Some places have Mac and cheese - a staple of my son's since 6 mos(wouldn't eat any baby food) Mashed potatoes are available also. Burgers broken into pieces, noodles-you can buy chicken noodle soup and take out the noodles, Vegetable soup is good for this also very soft veggies in that! chicken nuggets peal off some of the hard breading, other pasta's. I second the get her used to reg cold milk at one it doesn't have to be warm, actually my ped said I shouldn't warm it at any age it wasn't necessary. Don't fret over the nutritional content for a week just find foods she'll eat and be happy.

I also agree you should try and get her used to cold milk, but if she needs a warmed bottle before a nap or whatever I think there are microwaves at the baby care centers.
As for food- well the last time I went to wdw with dd she was 9 mos, so still mostly on jarred food. But we go out all the time and I never had a problem. If I were you I would bring along a few of your dc's fave jarred foods just in case and keep on hand a few snacks. Cheerios, nutrigrain bars, string cheese, puffs, animal crackers and banannas are all good bets.
At cs restaurants you can get her mac and cheese, soup, mashed potatos, pasta, soft chicken cut up small, applesauce, etc.
Have fun and good luck

Also, I was just thinking- if your dd turns one right at the time of your trip if you have not yet transitioned her to cows milk yet I would consider waiting until you get back (of course consult your ped first) the transition may be hard for her and you don't want to be dealing with her having an upset tummy and diarrea on vacation! My friend recently took her dd to Jamaica a week after she turned one and her ped advised her to wait for whole milk until she got back.

You have 4 months until your trip. I don't see why some of the transitions could start happening now. Every week you can lessen the temp of the bottles. They don't have to be warm to give to a baby. I have children in my daycare that drink cold and warm bottles.

You can start introducing solids now. Most kids are eating from the table by one. Even at 11 months it's ok to start switching over to cow's milk or your milk of choice. And there's nothing wrong with staying on formula either.

My daughter was 10 months at WDW last year and although I brought jar food, she preferred to eat from our plates. You just cut everything up real tiny.

And as far as her bottles went, we used our bottled water that was room temperature and the single sticks of formula and made her bottles that way.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas :)

DH also agrees to switch her to cold milk. I would like to although right now she won't touch it unless it is almost hot. Maybe I will try to change the temperature slowly.

I guess we have slow table eaters in my family. My oldest DD at 12 months ate very limited table food. Mostly I had to steam veggies and mash them on her plate. She gagged on everything. Anything she ate had to fall apart in her mouth. She also didn't have any teeth at that age, although I'm not sure that would have made a difference. LOL

Our youngest is 8 months. She still can not eat cherrios. She doesn't seem ready for table foods. She gags on anything we give her. I know that could change in a week but I still would like to have an idea of what to give her just in case she takes after her sister.

I like a lot of the ideas you guys listed. Thanks a lot! :thumbsup2

Thanks to her older brother, my DD1 has tried everything it seems like. She eats better than he does too! She has eaten hot dogs, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, mac n cheese, waffles, eggs, pancakes, french toast, raviloi, the Gerber Graduates meals (you could even bring some of those along and just nuke them for 30 secs-Im sure they could do it for you too), all kinds of fruit (she LOVES blueberries) though we avoid citrus for the sake of her bum, veggies (she LOVES lima beans), chips, crackers, cookies, popcorn, ice cream, yogurt is a favorite, etc. No nuts yet (supposed to wait until after 2 inc ase of allergies). If something is too big, I cut it up. The first time she had hot dogs I removed some of the skin.

However, dont wait until your trip to start new foods. Ease into them, just like you did with jarred food. I found with my DD sometimes a new food would give her bad diaper rash or nasty output and thats the last thing you want to deal with on a trip. It is so nice now not to have to lug around jarred food everywhere. Often our daughter eats off our own plates as well. My son doesnt eat crust on sandwiches so she gets it.

Our ds is a gagger too. He would eat jarred veggies so well. After our 12 month doctor visit, he said to quit the baby food.

We would give him bits of our food and veggies and he would gag and throw up. So we put him back on jarred veggies just for the sake of getting his vegetables. At the 15 month doctor appointment, the doctor insisted no more baby food. Ugh. He had us start brushing his tongue when we brush his teeth to de-sensitize the gag response. He has 4 teeth. I guess it worked. He no longer gags, just won't open his mouth if he suspects what we are giving him is a veggie. He bites the soap in the tub though. Silly boy. Also though he doesn't gag or throw up anymore, he's learned to spit out the food he dislikes. It's a bit embarrassing.

It's been a rough transition. We started out with gerber veggie puffs, then bananas and some bread, toast or buns. Then later little bits of a cheeseburger. He loves pizza & spaghetti. We hide carrots in the spaghetti sauce. He will only eat chicken from chick-filet. Mostly he likes peanut butter sandwiches and applesauces. So we are packing peanut butter, applesauces, and animal crackers. We'll buy some bread and milk at the resort. I plan to buy milk for him for all his meals, but carry around ice water in his sippy cup. I don't trust milk to stay cold while walking around the parks. This is not to say we won't try to get him to eat food off our plates, we'll just have the peanut butter sandwiches as a backup. I was a finicky child too. I guess he gets it from me.

The jar food was pretty handy. Hopefully your table food transition will be smoother than our experience. If your baby still enjoys the jarred food by the time you go on vacation, it couldn't hurt to bring some along.

On transitioning to milk, a week before his 1st birthday, I would eat some peanut butter toast and milk for my breakfast. He took a few drinks from my glass of cold milk. He thought drinking from a glass was big stuff. He was a bit drippy, but he liked the cold milk. So no trouble for us going from formula to milk.

earth's best makes cereal in to go packets, it can be mixed with a little hot water and add a little baby fruit--will you have a fridge in your room? horizon makes organic milk in "juice boxes", very handy and don't need to be chilled until they've been opened. our ds was 13mos last time and the best kid's meal he had was a chicken leg and mashed potatoes, otherwise he ate what we ate, i tried to get soup whenever i could, he loves soup.

DS was just over 9 months when we went in January and I agonized over this same thing. He had never had jarred food before and still just being introduced to solids. I had been making and freezing his food ahead but I bought some jarred food and packed it to bring anyway. He was fine with the jarred fruits and some vegetables but wouldn't touch the meat - he gagged.

I always brought baby cereal in the diaper bag and asked for some warm water from anywhere to mix it. That plus baby cookies, cheerios, the individual applesauce, some breakfast bars. I could usually break up whatever I was eating to be small enough for him to eat. Very small pieces of chicken or whatever (even chicken fingers if there was nothing else - I just tried to pull out the meat instead of all that deep fried breading). He also ended up being introduced to french fries during the trip!

As for the bottles, I was lucky that I was still nursing - very convenient. However, now when we're out, if they don't have a microwave I just ask for a big cup with some hot water and sit it in it. He's 16 months and still doesn't like his milk cold. Spoiled and I know it!

Have a great trip! Don't worry - everything will work out!

Wow - thanks OP for posting this! I am going to print this for suggestions in case my mind blanks out (as it is known to do frequently). My DD turns 14mo on the day we leave. I think she will be okay with most foods, but as of right now she has only 4 teeth and none that look like they are coming in. I know kids can pop a bunch of teeth all at once, but just in case these are some great suggestions!

Thanks again!~

My youngest DD's first trip to WDW was when she was 13 months, and I was worried about the same thing.

I took alot of those Gerber raviolis with me and she ate those all the time. I also took cereal bars and baby jar fruit for her to eat. It is tricky at this age, and I wish you luck. :wizard:

My SIL was just here for a visit with her 10 month old. They brought with them a little food mill that they recently bought. I wish we had had one when mine were that age.
It is just hand operated and isn't very big. She ate the same things we did, corn on the cob (scraped off, and chopped) hamburgers, buns, tomatos, onions and potato salad. Hers was just put through the mill first so she could eat it.

My DD is 13 mo. She has been off jarred food for about 2 mo. she still eats some of the fruits (she doesn't like fresh fruit but loves the jarred :confused3 except bananas, hates the jarred loves fresh ones. ...Anyway...DD will eat hamburger meat, steak, pork chops (if not too tough) grilled chicken, chicken nuggets, & hotdogs (I don't give her alot of this because of the salt but as a last resort I do) broken into small bites. She will eat all meats, veggies, bread, Mac & chz., noodles, even pizza etc. if it's mashed up or cut in small pieces. I would start around 11 mo. with some table food and see how she does, personally I wouldn't want to have to carry anymore to the parks than I have too. As far as milk goes, our DD does not like it. She is still BFing though. She loves water so I sometimes will mix milk 1/2 & 1/2 with water and she will drink that, and I don't warm it.

Good luck!!!

Now that is a smart idea! :thumbsup2

I was trying to remember what we did with DS who was 14 mos on our last visit (only this past April) and I have such a hard time remembering ages and stages. Honestly, the rule that rules is that they change so quickly so if you have months to go b4 your trip, don't sweat it yet. Just wait until you are really a month or less away, then try to figure it out.

In the end, from what I remember, my DS ate mostly table food at that point. BTW, at 17 mos, we still feed DS baby food -- veggies only. He is not a veggie fan, but since he still eats jarred squash and carrots, our pedi says "go for it"!

Good luck and have a great trip!
