Food, food and more food! And lots of pics! COMPLETE!

Loving your report!

I love interesting cheeses and order a cheese plate whenever I can. The best I ever had was at Le Cellier. Amazing!

Hi everyone, thanks for all your great feedback! Here is my next installment...

That night (Wed) we didn't have dinner at Disney. One of the exhibitors at DH's conference was hosting their own conference near Universal and they had rented out Marvel comics Island at IOA. We were lucky enough to get an invite so we canceled our plans for dinner and went there instead. They did a buffet (delicious, btw) but no review needed as it is not food that they normally serve there.

Hurricane Hanna's

Thursday I had lunch by the pool after my AK tour (Wild by Design). I got the Chicken Flat Bread sandwich from Hurricane Hanna's. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by how good this was. The sandwich was served warm on a piece of soft pita. It had some kind of spread (sundried tomato maybe?) on the bread, then lettuce, tomato, grilled chicken, and a cucumber/yogurt sauce. Sort of like what you would get on a gyro or souvlaki. The chicken was well seasoned and a really big piece. This was a really big sandwich. I couldn't eat it folded up so I used a fork and knife. If you get this by the pool beware b/c I don't think you could eat it w/o utensils w/o making a huge mess.

Sorry no pics b/c I was at the pool and didn't have my camera. But if you are looking for a quick CS lunch around the BC, I'd definitely recommend this. It was surprisingly good and very filling. Total cost (with a soda): $9.89

Next up: Raglan Road (mmmmmmm)

Thursday night we had dinner at Raglan Road. I was really excited to try this place (not the least of which was because of the bread pudding!). We had originally had a reservation for 7:30 but I decided to move it back to 8:30 so we could be assured of being there for the live music at 9:00.

DH and I wandered around DTD for a while before dinner. We ended up being so hungry that we went to the restaurant early, around 8. At that point it was pretty chaotic. There was a large line leading out the door. I asked the person at the end if he was waiting to put his name in and he said yes. So after a while of waiting and not moving, DH decided to check up front. Apparenlty we were in the patio line (I guess they don't take ADRs there) and you just wait until you can be seated. So we got out of line and checked in up front.

We ended up waiting until 8:45 to be seated. It was really busy, and as you get closer to 9 I think things heat up even more. FWIW, they were telling walks ups it was a 2 hour wait. And large parties (one of 9 and one of 11) were told they could not be seated at all that night. Many just decided to go to the patio. I am not sure if you could hear the band from there, but you definitely couldn't see them. Some folks also tried to sit at the bar but I am sure it was next to impossible to get seats there.

So by the time we finally got in we were starving! I was definitely planning on some bread pudding so I decided to pace myself and order two appetizers rather than an appetizer and entree. For my "main dish" I got the beef salad. It had sliced steak, fried onions, and a horseradish dressing. I thought it was pretty good. Not amazing and the meat was undercooked for the way I ordered it, but good. I was spoiled by then from my first course which was the goat cheese terrine.

Now, I am must say apparently I had no idea what I was ordering b/c I didn't realize this was a salad too. When I saw terrine I thought "crock" and sort of pictured a crock of cheese. But it was a salad (the server must have thought I was crazy for ordering two salads!). But let me say, this was AMAZING! Here is a pic:

tn_IMG_0692b.jpg

It was a large piece of soft goat cheese fried (I sort of imagine it like the fried cheese dish at Prime Time although I've never had that). It topped a salad with a sweet vinagrette, raspberries, walnuts, and sort of a pomogranate sauce? (the stuff on the lower left side near the fork). It was so good I could hardly get enough of it. I still can taste that warm goat cheese, mmm. Definitely spoiled me for the other, less exciting salad.

DH got the sea bass special (sorry, can't remember too many details). Our server said it was just an entree (no sides) so he ordered a side salad. However, it came with some peppers and stuff so he didn't really need the salad.

Two other quick notes: the bread and dipping oil was delicious (sort of a heavy, grain bread). And our beers were great. I asked for something dark and smooth. Our server recommended the Smithwick's which was great. DH had 2 Tucher Hefes which was a lot like a Blue Moon if you are familiar (right down to the orange slice garnish). Light, smooth, a bit of fruit flavor).

Ok, on to dessert. DH ordered the Dunbrody Kiss. It was really good. Very fudgy and rich though. I could only take one bite b/c it was so rich but DH loved it. And it was quite large, bigger than I expected (at least 4 inches around). I had the bread and butter pudding. Even after fantasizing about this for months, it was as good as I imagined. I think it is partly the combo of the yummy sauces and partly the sweet, crispy top. Really excellent.

We were seated in the main room, right next to the pole that adjoins the stage. So I could see around the back to the band, and DH could see around the front. Not as noisy as I had feared though and the band and Irish dancer were great. I really enjoyed the music and thought it added a lot to the atmosphere. We also were seated near a small wedding party and enjoyed watching the flower girls and little boys dance.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely come back (although we'd dine much earlier with the kids). Delicious food, good service, fun atmosphere - what more could you want! Total cost: $93.82

Coming up, Columbia Harbor House and Le Cellier!

In 6 weeks I will be there- I have to try that cheese tourine AND that famous bread and butter pudding! Thanks for the great review and photos.:)

I have an adr for Feband all the raves about the bread pudding ,which I love anyway have clinched dessert but I can't decide on the entree I like the look of the Sole & chips but I have heard such good things about the stuffed pork!!Anyone help me??

Dee-lishus review of RR. I am even more undecided now as to whether I should add this to our ADRs for next April

My family are huge fans of the ham & cheese sandwich at the French bakery. It's served on the same baguette that is shown in the pic with some greenery and a pat of butter.

We just booked to go back at Christmas and my kids are chomping at the bit to get for a ham & cheese!!

I guess it depends on what you would have to cancel to make room for it, but we really enjoyed it. I think there were a lot of good options on the menu. I also really liked the atmosphere and the music/dancing.

Yes, I saw these sandwiches, they were quite big and looked really good.

Friday morning we spent in MK and had lunch at Columbia Harbor House. I love this place (we ate here three times last trip). DH wasn't that hungry, nor was he sure this was what he wanted. However knowing we were having meat that night at LC he didn't want Pecos Bills so he agreed to CHH.

We got their fairly early, by around 11:30. It was pretty empty. I like how they have the menu posted here with pictures of the food. I ordered the Lighthouse sandwich and DH got the BLT salad. My sandwich came with chips and we got an order of fries and two sodas.

My sandwich was delicious. It is served on the same toasted multigrain bread that the tuna uses. Then it has tomatoes, hummus, and broccoli slaw. The slaw is sort of sweet and tangy and a nice contrast with the hummus. It is nice to eat something fresh and crisp after a lot of heavy food.

DH had the BLT salad. This was new on the menu since we were here last year. It is fried chicken nuggets (like the chicken strips but little nuggets not big strips) over salad with bacon, tomatoes, and cheese I think. He had it with ranch dressing. DH really liked this. This is his style salad and he thought it was very good. Fries were also good. We didn't eat the chips (too full).

For some reason I have no receipts from this day so I can't tell you how much it was. But as usual, I found CHH a great place to eat. Good food, interesting choices and nice atmosphere. I definitely recommend it.

For dinner we went to Le Cellier. We had an 8:20 ADR and arrived just on time. They told us there would be a wait, but by the time I went to the restroom they had already called us.

We were greeted quickly by our server, told our section, and offered drinks. I just got a soda, I think DH might have gotten a mixed drink but I am not sure (can't find this receipt either). The bread was good as usual although I only like the pretzel and sourdough. We finished it fast and asked for more. She said she'd bring it but it never came and we didn't ask again.

For appetizer, I had the mussels and DH had the soup. He thought it was delicious and my taste of it was great. I love beer cheese soup so I really like this, but the flavor is quite strong so I can see why some folks don't. My mussels were fabulous. Large portion and great flavor. I love that it comes over a chowder of potatoes, bacon, etc. So when you are done the mussels, you have almost a little soup to eat. This is a great dish.

For dinner DH had the maple fillet and I had the mushroom filet. I had heard mixed things about the maple fillet but DH loved it and I thought it was very good. It definitely has a BBQ taste to it though. It was cooked as ordered and very tender.

I had the mushroom fillet over the risotto. I loved this dish. The fillet has crispy leeks on top. The risotto is creamy and delicious. The fillet melted in my mouth. It was really fabulous.

We considered dessert but nothing really appealed to either of us and we were pretty full. Since it was an EMH night we figured we'd walk around and maybe get dessert somewhere else.

Overall this was a great meal. I know others have been less enthusiastic about LC of late, but our last two meals there have been fabulous. I will definitely go back and would certainly recommend it based on our experiences.

A few asides: Shockingly, the place was not even close to full. There were many tables empty and we were seated in a long row of two tops that had no other diners. Knowing this place is booked up 6 months in advance, I was so surprised to see so many open tables. The restaurant didn't close until 9, and they seated a few people later than us, so clearly they hadn't stopped seating. So I have no idea why there was so much availability. But if you are ever looking to walk in, this seems like the time of night to go!

Second, LC uses the same seating as many other places - the long row of two tops. I guess this lets them push tables together for larger parties as needed, but when they are separated, the tables end up really close together. We were very near our neighbors and had this problem other places. I understand why they do the tables this way but it is sort of a pain when you are a party of two.

Last thing, the table next to us had two kids with Celiac's. I figured this out after noticing what they were eating and hearing them talk (we were very close together). The staff seemed to be really working with them to ensure the kids got what they needed and nothing was contaminated. The chef came out and talked to them, they had special rolls that the kids raved over, etc. Just mentioning it b/c I thought they seemed to be handling it very well.

Hi guys,

A quick update until I have time to get to YCG and Jiko...

On Friday night after Le Cellier, DH surprised me with a special anniversary treat. He had ordered champagne and chocolate covered strawberries from the Beach Club to be delivered to our room.

It was pretty late by the time we got back (almost midnight) but they still delivered it all within about 10 minutes of his call. Here is what it looked like:

It was a mini bottle of champagne and double dipped strawberries. I love chocolate covered strawberries so I was in heaven. Isn't he a sweetie?

You are one lucky woman!!!!!;)

Thanks for everyone's great feedback! I am glad to hear folks are enjoying the reviews. Now on to Kona!

Just to note, a few menu changes from when we were there last. First, the Kona chowder was no longer on the menu. They had a new soup, coconut curry shrimp I think.

I had this soup and it was wonderful! We had never been to Kona before, so we didn't have anything to compare it to. It was one of our top places to eat that week!

For lunch on Wednesday I headed over to Epcot to the french bakery (Boulongerie Patisserie - or something like that!). I am a cheese junkie and had been craving it all week so I decided to order the Cheese Plate, a baguette, a slice of the cake of the day, and a diet soda (the whole diet coke cancels out the chocolate thing didn't really work!)

Now, this looks yummy! I'll have to remember this for our next trip. We ended up eating two TS meals while at Epcot and didn't have much room for other goodies. But that cheese plate... Wow!

Thanks for your reviews!

Hi everyone! Sorry for the long delay in posting, it has been a crazy week! But on to the food!

We spent Saturday in AK and left around lunch time. After my not so great Flame tree experience we didn't want that again and DH wasn't in the mood for pizza so we decided to eat lunch near the resort. Unfortunately, there is definitely a lack of good CS options near the BC. Short of eating at the pool or at the convenience store (BC marketplace) the only other option is going to Epcot. We toyed with that idea but in the end decided to try the Yacht Club Galley.

This restaurant was on our original list of ADRs, but when we made some changes to our touring plans in ended up getting dropped. I was still interested to try it as it had gotten some good DIS reviews and seems to one of those places that is seldom talked about. So let me just say for starters, I am really glad we went!

We arrived around 1:45 to a mostly empty restaurant. I was actually surprised how big a place this is. The decor is nothing thrilling, but it is not as "blah" as I had expected based on other's comments.

Ok, on to the food. We ordered an appetizer of buffalo chicken strips. For some reason when the server asked us if we wanted the sauce on the side, DH said yes. I am not really sure why as we eat spicy food all the time, but whatever. So it came as three plain chicken tenders (typical Disney style) with sauce on the side and celery. Here is a picture (we also had ranch and blue cheese dressing you can't see):

tn_IMG_0748.jpg

It doesn't look like much, but with the sauce they were very good. Pretty much your basic good buffalo tenders. We were not super hungry so it was enough for us, but if you were really hungry or a large group it may not be enough to share with only 3 strips.

For an entree DH ordered the cheeseburger. This was a nice size burger with steak fries and a pickle. It was not a pre-pressed patty, but appeared to be a handmade burger:

tn_IMG_0750.jpg

The burger was really good. DH asked for A1 and our server got it from the Yachtsman which was nice. The fries were awesome. They must have been just cooked as they were crispy outside and soft inside. I have to say, with all respect for B&C, this was a great burger in a place with no wait and lots of space. It would be a good choice for those who don't want to wait in the B&C crowd.

For my entree I got a reuben sandwich. Let me start by saying I am WAY picky about my reubens. My three criteria for a good sandwich are:
- good ratio of sauerkraut to meat (not too much to overwhelm but enough to cut the sweetness of the corned beef and dressing)
- crispy bread that is not too greasy
- lean, quality corned beef
So given my pickiness, I am always wary of ordering a reuben from a new restaurant. But I need not have feared! It was FABULOUS!

tn_IMG_0749.jpg

Lean, thinly sliced corned beef, great bread, delicious fries!

Overall, we were really pleased with this meal. It was a great lunch, good service, nice selection, and delicious food. What more could you want! We would definitely come back if we were in the area (especially if staying at the BC area) but given how many good TS there are in the Epcot/BC area I am not sure if make it a destination meal. But definitely good and a great choice if you are in the area.

Great update - I must have missed the previous posts but those choc-covered strawberries look divine. You are very lucky to have such a thoughtful DH :)

Yacht Club Galley looks good for an alternative lunch option in the Boardwalk area. We went to the Yacht Club last year but only for drinks - whereabouts is the galley located?

Yes, it would definitely be a good choice if you were in the Boardwalk area to grab a light lunch. We came into the YCG from the main YC entrance where the cabs/buses drop off. Walk toward the back of the lobby and turn left and it is right there. If you were coming from the BW, I'd walk across the path by the pool and enter the first door into the YC. If you follow the internal hallway around (past Yachtsman) you will see it before you get to the lobby. Does that make any sense? Basically, it is inside near the lobby.

A fellow Reuben lover! :goodvibes I will have to check this out; I can't find a decent Reuben locally and have to always eat at the Plaza Restaurant at MK to get one.
Kinda OT; worst Reuben ever. Local diner's menu listed a Reuben and lists all the correct ingredients. After my order the waitress came back and said they have a new cook and he doesn't know how to make it- what is in it? Duh, read the menu- it lists everything. I show her the menu and tell her it is grilled, blah,blah... Do you see my huge mistake? The guy up front tells the waitress he had never made one...
Anyhoo, I had it ordered to go and when I take it out back home what I got was (you just won't believe this):
toasted whole wheat (NOT grilled rye or pump)
corned beef HASH
cheddar cheese (NOT Swiss)
and cole slaw instead of sauerkraut!!! :scared1:
I had to laugh and actually tasted the thing (where is that puking smilie?).
Live and learn!

Thanks for the review of the Yacht Club Gallery. We'll be trying it for the first time on Saturday 11/10. :goodvibes
