Food Drunk- 10 Days of Deliciousness.

Best meal ever! I can't wait to read about it. Hopefully you have lots of pics.:thumbsup2

This, sadly, is the last installment of the Food Drunk report! Hopefully everyone enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed revisiting my magical experience... I currently have major post vacation stress so hopefully writing about the best food I've ever eaten will make me happier! :lovestruc

The original plan for the day had been Downtown Disney for shopping, back to Pop to get ready for dinner, Animal Kingdom for a while and then dinner at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Didn't exactly work out that way, but we had a nice day anyway.

After seeing multiple pictures of that gorgeous breakfast pizza at Wolfgang Puck Express, breakfast was a no brainer. Here's my picture of it!

I put a reasonable sized dent in it before I had to admit defeat-- it's so good but a huge portion. I love the combo of the eggs, pizza crust and ranch dressing.

Andrew was having a hard time deciding what to get, so he asked the cashier what she thought of the cornflake French toast. Her face lit up and she said 'That's the BEST!' Well, consider Andrew sold.

No idea how this doesn't get burnt (they probably deep fry it, hahahahaha. Oh goodness) but it really is just amazing. It's so crispy and flavorful. An excellent choice.

In a perfect world, Wolfgang Puck Express wouldn't be all the way in Downtown Disney, but it's worth the trip to get down there. We've already decided that we'll be back, probably more than once.

We went to AMC to see Black Swan (I'm kind of a movie nerd, so this may sound like a very un-Disney thing to do, but it was a good way to spend some time, especially since I was still so easily fatigued) and then went back to Marketplace to use up some snack credits and a final quick service credit. We bought a bag of Chewy Sprees, a Finding Nemo cookie, three milk chocolate marshmallows, a chocolate covered strawberry and a rice crispy treat with chocolate on the ears. Thank you, Goofys! I love your existence.

Even though it's a horrible use of a credit, I wanted to try Earl of Sandwich thanks to all of the glowing reviews. We weren't all that hungry after our huge breakfast, so sharing a sandwich worked out perfectly.

We chose the Original 1762:

(Not my picture... Found it on Google Images)

I love roast beef and horseradish, so this was a good choice. And the bread is something else. This and some grapes was a perfect lunch.

Soooo, by the time the stupid bus picked us up Downtown, after like 16 Saratoga Springs buses drove by, it was much later than I had anticipated, plus it was FREEZING... so we decided to forgo Animal Kingdom time and go straight to the Lodge. We were a little early for our reservation, so we got to look around the gorgeous resort for a little while. We bypassed the chaos that was Boma and checked in at Jiko. They, bizarrely, didn't give us a pager and we sat at a table in the bar, waiting for someone to personally escort us in, I guess? I mean, how else would we know, right? The bartender looked right at us and then went to another party waiting in the bar... who held a pager. UMMMMMMMMMM... I'm like the most patient person on the planet in restaurants because I've worked in food service for 6+ years... but what?! When another party of two walked in and was seated immediately, Andrew went to the host stand and asked what was going on. The manager sat us immediately. Amanda is happy again. And it's the bartender's loss... We tip extremely well.

I took a picture of the napkins because I love how rustic they look:

Purdy!

Our server brought us a bottle of Evian while we decided on cocktails (it was our last night so we were going all out)

Disney384.jpg

I ordered the Victoria Falls Mist:

Disney385.jpg

Not 100% sure of the ingredients but Midori is why it's green and it tasted like Haribo Starmix, which are these obscure gummy candies that my friend from England buys me. It's super sweet and not all that strong, but it was delicious and smooth.

Andrew got some variation of a margarita-

Disney387.jpg

He was surprised that it was pink, but he liked the taste. Andrew seldom meets a margarita he doesn't like.

The server, who I'm like 97% sure was named Mary, was really great with recommendations. She told us all about the great debacle of the filet and macaroni and cheese versus the new fingerling potatoes, but said that we could still order it the 'old' way. She also endorsed the barbecue chicken flatbread, which I had been curious about, so we ordered one to share:

Disney388.jpg

Totally not what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it'd be kind of sweet, between barbecue sauce and apples, but the sweetness is cut with pepper in the sauce and jicama in the slaw, so the overall effect is almost a sweet-spicy combo. We managed to eat the whole thing... go us.

Here's a picture of the bread that comes with the meal:

Disney389.jpg

I, shockingly, wasn't too impressed with this. I love flax seed, so the savory one of the two breads should have been up my alley, and I LOVE curry, so the butter should have pleasing to me too... but I was content just nibbling on a piece of the sweet honey bread. Strange, I know.

For entrees, Andrew went with the filet and mac and cheese suggestion. Heck, it's practically iconic on here, so why not give it a try?

Disney391.jpg

This may surpass the Wolfgang Puck Express meatloaf for Andrew's most talked about dish of the trip. He was totally in heaven here, loving the tender meat, rich sauce and the creamy pasta. I did get a tiny bite before he devoured it all and it is seriously good... but not as good as mine :cutie:

Like I said, I trusted Mary's recommendations and after the delicious appetizer, I was even more confident with my choice. Despite my obsessive food porn stalking, I had never seen this in anyone's reports so it was a shot in the dark. Behold, the maize crusted wreckfish with tomato butter sauce and 'vegetables of the moment'

Disney390.jpg

:worship::worship::worship::worship: This. was. perfect. The maize crust didn't overpower the wreckfish, which was really just a delicate white fish like haddock... and the sauce?! UMMMM, can someone just lend me a bucket and let me get in on that? It tasted amazing with the fish and the vegetables were cooked perfectly al dente. I seriously was in food heaven and finished every bite. Although this was a good sized portion, I didn't feel like I was going to explode when it came time for dessert!

Andrew decided to get the Cape Malva pudding, which is similar to bread pudding, I guess? I didn't try it but he said it was delicious and comforting.

Disney392.jpg

Mary told me that the vanilla bean cheesecake was the way to go 'if you're a cheesecake person', which I am, so I, yet again, was like 'I'm taking your advice, Mary!'

Disney393.jpg

This is different on the official Disney menu, but I'm almost sure that it was a piece of chocolate toffee, vanilla bean cheesecake topped with chocolate covered espresso beans and salted caramel sauce.

I WISH I could have eaten more of this but I was really getting full from everything else... Mary even asked if I didn't like it, but it was AMAZING. The cheesecake was so creamy, more Italian style than the traditional American stuff you may be used to.

I ordered a Diet Coke with my dessert, of course and when we got the bill, we had been 'charged' for the Evian (that is, it was the drink for both of us)... and not for the Diet Coke. So, a non-issue basically, but I didn't ask for the fancy schmancy 6.50 a piece water, you know? I didn't even ask for water... she just brought it.

So despite a couple of service issues, I was in awe of the food at Jiko and can't recommend it enough. Definitely the meal of the trip.

And with that, the eating adventures of Amanda and Andrew have come to an end! Don't worry... I'm already planning our dining schedule for our next trip. Thanks to everyone who followed along!

So, pictures look way better when they're 600x800... Just realized that. Oh well, hope everyone enjoyed anyway.
