We are staying in the RPR for the first time. We always make good use of the food court areas at the All-Star resorts at Disney resorts. Is there anything like that at RPR?

You can pay for the buffet breakfast at The Islands, which is supposed to be very good, but we usually only eat at Orchard Court in the mornings we want something, usually toast danish etc

No food courts. The Universal resorts are upscale, luxury resorts operated by Loews. There is a continental breakfast in the Orchid Court Lounge, an excellent buffet or a la carte breakfast at Islands, or breakfast available in a few places at Citywalk. There is a sort mini food court at Citywalk with a Burger King, Panda Express, and Moe's Southwest Grill, but that's about it. There are plenty of great places to eat, but no tacky food courts.

So what's the best way to eat quickly? We aren't interested in fine dining and fancy meals, just a way to eat without wasting precious time in the parks. Any suggestions? I guess we could be considered "tacky," but theme parks aren't exactly designed just for those gourmet grazers.

There are lots of counter service restaurants in the park to pick up quick meals.

The last time I was at USO, we just grabbed a coffee and a roll at Cinnabon. We will be heading next week, I can update after our trip on how eating at Citywalk was before park opening. You could also just grab a breakfast sandwich at Burger King (also at Citywalk).

We like to eat before we get to the park (we seem to have issues finding things that are open and not packed for breakfast) so we ate breakfast at Orchid Court off the lobby at RPR. It's a large lounge area so there are plenty of places to sit. In the "bar" area, they have all sorts of food set up...donuts, hot croissant sandwiches, cereal, fruit, yogurt. It's maybe a little more $ than the food courts at the Disney resorts, but not too bad and very convenient and fast when you want to eat quickly to get to the park.

Have a great trip!

There is a bakery just inside of Universal Studios on the right that you could pick up a quick bit. We usually get a great continental breakfast at the bakery just inside to the right of Islands. You get a muffin/crossiant, drink and cup of fruit for about $5-6. We usually get a couple and split them, since the muffins are huge and there is a large cup of mixed fruit and just pay for the extra drinks.

Last time I was at Universal, I would pick something up (like croissants) before I left the park for the day, and took it back to the room. We ate it in the room the next morning. We had a fridge in the room. Can't remember if we had to pay extra for it.

you are right about the Disney food courts. They would be great here. I think they dont do them to encourage people to pay for club level. An IHOP or Dennys would KILL in citywalk

We always bring our own cereal, spoons and napkins (the cereal in those new pre-packed plastic bowls...much better than the little cardboard ones). We buy a cup of milk somewhere the night before (like a coffee place) and put it in a mini-fridge, or if don't have that packed in the ice bucket. This time though we are staying Club level, so wont' have to do any of that!

All the rooms come with a fridge and a Kuerig coffee/tea maker. If you brought your own milk and creamer, you could utilize the fridge. Breakfast is an easy item to pack in your bags (cereal, breakfast bars, instant oatmeal) and you could save money and time that way. You could put sodas or beer in the fridge to save even more $$$. Don't remember if there is a charge for the fridge though...

The rooms don't really come with a fridge. They have the mini bar full of items that doesn't always keep things very cold. You need to be very careful that you don't move things around in the mini bar since they can charge you.

I'm thinking back and remembering that when we saw the price for a bottle of water when we first walked into the room, we called guest services right away and had the fridge locked. We asked for an empty fridge and they brought us one that we placed under the sink outside the bathroom ( we were at HRH) and used that. But I don't recall if there was an extra fee for that. Maybe by joining the HR Club (or whatever it is called) we did not have to pay for a fridge rental. Either way, fee or not, it was very convenient and both time and $$ saving, especially where breakfast and drinks were involved.
Memories....

Yup, there is a fee unless it is required for medication of infant purposes.
