Food at Flame Tree Barbeque???

This was easily one of the most disappointing places we ate in June.

I had the recipe for the rub they use and the sauce so I made it at home and wanted to compare.

The sauce is a little different, but pretty good. The ribs were really bad. They were tough and still had the membrane on the back, which is a "No No" with ribs.

I would find something else if you could.

Plus, I am NOT a picky eater at all, so if I didn't like it, it was bad... take it to the bank!

Flame Tree has been a favorite of ours for years, but was really disappointing at the end of Sept. when we were there for the following reason:

  • really skimpy portion on pork sandwich
    No cornbread!
Baked beans were loaded with onions - should have called them baked onions instead of baked beans!

We had this experience as well. It has been a long favorite of ours, but last month the sandwiches had maybe 5 stands of extremely dry pork and a huge bun. And no cornbread. However, we're going to chalk it up to a bad day and we'll try it again next trip. We've had far more good experiences than bad experiences there.

Yeah I really would have liked the cornbread.
I would have given up the dessert for it if it was an option.
My baked beans were excellent, the best part of the meal. I think you may have had some bad luck with the onions.

Unfortunately this is the best option in AK IMO.

....but it seems like the quality has gone down slightly the past few years. The ribs are our favorite and, while still very good and tender, the meat used to fall off the bone and now we have to bite it off.
Ribs are not suppose to be "fall off the bone". If they are, they are overdone. Ribs are suppose to have a little pull to get it off the bone.

First trip to Disney next year, but the Flame Tree is one of the places I am really looking forward to visiting.

Yummmmmyyyyyyyyy. We leave in 3 weeks and I can't wait to get back to FTB!!! I'm from Texas where we are born into being BBQ masters before crawling and I can tell you that the food is pretty darn good, for Disney. We've had the good, the bad and the ugly at FTB, but we've been mostly satisfied with the food there. For AK we do Donalds Safari breakfast and then follow up afternoon lunch with FTB. I just can't miss a chance at that BBQ chicken & rib plate.

I've had the ribs and the pulled pork sandwich here, and loved them both. We both loved dining out by the little pond with all of the birds as it was very peaceful. They also serve pretty good beer as well!

I have been dreaming about this chicken since our last trip in September 08!

I am from MA, so I have NO CLUE about what good BBQ is about, but I thought it was delicious, and had never had chicken with a rub like that before. I also loved getting the frozen lemonade as a dessert. Our next trip will be in January, so hopefully it won't be 100 degrees and I can try the Key Lime Pie this time!

:thumbsup2

A lot of what is called barbecue isn't barbecue, and the ribs fall off the bone because they've been par boiled (yuck). When ordered, they're slathered with sauce and thrown on a grill. That's not barbecue.

I give Flame Tree props for doing it the right way, but they do have a problem with consistency and quality control. I've had good ribs at FT and ribs which were borderline inedible.

Well if you know bbq, then you know that Flame Tree rally isn't bbq either but it will do.

The onion rings there are pretty good but beware the ducks! They beg and won't leave you alone.

I can't believe that this thread is still going.

My previous comments have been deleted so I'll try not to get OT ;), but this is about as good as we can expect from a theme park.

I did expect them to be better with all the hype over the last few months.

They are on par with a Fridays or a Chill's, so not too bad for a CS location.

Considering other CS options in AK, this is the best IMO.

I did find the ribs at Cosmic Rays better, but it was a different day and they probably all come out of the same kitchen and are warmed up locally (I assume).

I had great BBQ there....I would go back...very generous portions!!! We sat by the lake and all the characters came by on a float!!

Rather than being snarky, perhaps you can share with us your knowledge of how FT cooks their meat. :rolleyes1 AFAIK, they use traditional barbecue methods.

Just my 2 cents.

No point in arguing.

As you probably know what is BBQ depends on what state your from or even what part of a state you are from.

BBQ is almost a religion for some people.
Getting people to agree on it is impossible IMO.

BTW, I'm from the NE so I have no clue what BBQ is ;), but I know what I like.
Flame tree was OK, but with all the hype I just expected it to be better.

We ate there in September & we liked the ribs & the chicken was very good too.

We will be there 3 weeks from today - so many different opinions that I will just have to see for myself. Thanks for all the comments!! :)

We ate at FT this past Thur. and I was really disappointed. After reading the great reviews here maybe my expectations were too high. My ribs were really tough to the point where I gave up trying to get to the meat. My DH also had the ribs and his were a little more tender. The beans were very soupy - I couldn't find any intact beans. The keylime "pie" wasn't pie at all - just lime flavored custard on top of crushed grahm crackers in a cup. I did enjoy the setting, but you must like birds. My DD had a ball playing with the birds after eating only two bites of her pulled pork sandwich. I really wanted to like this place so maybe we will have to give it another try and I will order the chicken :)

The pie was in a cup???? :scared1: That sure isn't the picture that I have seen on these threads - did they change it? I WILL be disappointed if this is the case!
