Food and Wine Premium Package

it's still a struggle trying to get Disney to give me more info. sadly, they're still keeping their CMs in the dark as well. yesterday i was told to call back to choose my seminar & when i tried to do that, the CM said that i don't have to. i can just show up whenever i want & attend any seminar M-Th as well as any Dessert party during my week. REALLY???? wow. now that would be ideal for us!! but again, not quite trusting. i asked her to double check with her supervisor because i would be very upset to show up & be shut out of any event because i didn't tie the seminar/dessert party to my premium package.

i also asked about having the "swag bag" sent to our room or picking it up early. she said it would not be available prior to the M-Th for early pick up. i asked if they really want everyone carrying bottles of wine and wine glasses around all day? she said "no further information at this time". so i guess we pick up the swag bag in WS then walk it all the way back to guest services to have it sent back to our room?? i'm sure this pick up spot allows AP holders who don't need a disney hotel reservation to purchase the package too. *sigh*

hopefully these kinks will be worked out soon...

Yes, you raised 2 good "Disney Points of Magical Mystery" -- DPoMMs. I would keep trying to advance-book the Deminar and Dessert Party. My CM didn't even mention the Dessert Party when I booked the Premium Package, so I'm counting on my DisBoard friends to fill in the blanks by sharing their booking stories.

I'm just guessing here that the goodie bags will be moved to the Epcot entrance gate by F&W Festival Center staff. I don't think Disney wants ppl walking around the park with alcohol and glass objects. However, Disney doesn't deliver "food items" from parks to resorts. So the Epcot entrance gate is as far as your stuff could go. Last year we bought some wine at the Festival Center, and we were told that we couldn't take our wine with us after purchase. They handled the transfer of our wine to the front gate, where we picked it up at departure. (They'll deliver to the Int'l Gateway entrance, too.)

They won't send a bottle of wine back to your room. You'll need to leave it at package pickup. When you pick it up at the center they may be willing to send it to package pickup for you. Remember that you can't enter another park carrying the wine.

wow. that'll really be a huge hassle! ugh. thank you for the info about it. i'm not familiar with the details of package pick up etc. :)

@FoodieFriend Have you gotten all of the kinks worked out for the Premium Package?

thanks for asking! Disney allowed me to change my Dessert Party to tuesday when i know for sure there will be one going on that week. i was going to book my culinary demo but then they changed the presenters for my week & one day is "TBD" so i'm waiting to find out what it will be.... ugh. i check the seminars everyday!

Geez! That sounds like Disney is playing Russian Roulette with your plans. Fingers crossed and Pixie Dust sprinkled that it all goes well for you.

@kmrada just fyi, the culinary demo is still showing TBD for Sept 29, so i gave up waiting for it & booked a different demo for my PP. ugh! i'm super annoyed about it but i'd rather just have all the waiting around be DONE WITH & relax with our trip coming up so soon. all the pre-planning is done finally, so here we come WDW! :jumping1:

Glad you booked so you can turn your attention to other items. I posted my adventure on the other F&W thread. Wonder how full the "TBD" seminar is now, with ppl worried they won't get into any seminar if they don't sign up for "something." LOL

@FoodieFriend thanks for the update. With that booked I hope all you focus on now is highlighting what delicious foods you will be eating in 4 short weeks! We pretty much have all our planning done. Now just to print out that pages for our DFB book and figure out our definite eats.

I really did try to wait it out to find out what's being offered "TBD" but I just couldn't risk losing that part of the PP. I guess I'm frugal like that. I wonder if anyone will book it since you can't change it per the "rules" of the PP. I'm sure there are a lot of adventurous foodies out there that will book it. unfortunately, one person in my group is not a risk taker when it comes to food, so we're going with her preferences in this matter.

I understand. Did you purchase the book from Disney Food Blog? I can't remember if we talked about that or not. I have really enjoyed reading it and found it very helpful with planning. I tried to book the dessert party for MNSSHP within a couple of hours of it being announced but our date was SOLD OUT....:(

i follow/subscribe to the Disney Food blog but haven't purchased their food guide. i've read thru many threads on the DIS & hopefully we'll be ok. i don't want to plan too much more than we already have set up. my traveling group already thinks i'm insane for doing so much work for this trip. haha. so sorry about you not having a dessert party reservation. have you read the DIS threads on it? some people said there's a problem booking smaller parties so to call in & try to book a larger group then cancel the extra ppl. shrug. we're going to the MNSSHP but not attending another dessert party since we already have one with the PP.

Hope you have a great trip!

They will thank you for planning!! I did read the thread on the party and tried the extra people but no such luck. No worries we will have a great time no matter what.

I hope you and yours enjoy your trip too. :jumping1:

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if you have kids with you (like, under 5, definitely not drinking age) would you need to purchase a package for them to get into the premium areas? Or would they be let in free and you would just need to buy them tickets to the dessert party? TIA!

This was a good question that was asked last year, too. Each person in the Premium Package area needs to have a ticket. Non-package buyers would occupy too many seats and tables that had been set up for paying guests. And there would be the temptation (of some ppl) to have the server bring back food/drink for non-paying guests along with the PP guest's order. Last year, there were literally only a handful of tables in each premium area, and 3 servers, as I recall.

@FoodieFriend I am sure you are in the last minute throws of packing and such but I just wanted to say I hope you have a FANTASTIC trip! May all your luggage arrive and the food be outstanding. Can't wait to hear back with reports on the crazy MNSSHP and of course your F&W adventures.

@kmrada - thanks so much! we're still shopping for the last of our costume touches & travel knickknacks. *sigh* although i'm "prepared" I still feel unprepared! thanks for the well wishes!!! i'm hoping all turns out well & I'll have a great trip to report about!

@kmrada Sorry it's taken me so long to post here. After returning from WDW, we had a lot of stuff to take care of before I had time to post. I did a write up on the Food & Wine thread but I'll do a recap here too for anyone still waiting to use their PP. Let me start at the beginning of our stay. We actually booked the Parisian Breakfast on Sept 26, so we were in Epcot before our PP started on Sept 28. We had some time to kill after the breakfast ended & our FPs at Animal Kingdom, so we checked out the Festival Center. There was two huge lines at the Festival Shop area. I asked at the information booth what was going on there & they explained it was people picking up their Tasting Sampler credentials. Whew! Then I asked where I would pick up my PP swag bag & she said same place! oh NO!!! If I could only pick up the swag bag on Monday, we would be competing with all the Tasting Sampler pick ups. So I went to see how the line was moving & I asked a CM who was dressed more like a manager & he told me I could stand in line now to pick up my PP swag bags. YAY! I was still unsure if that was going to happen, but I was able to see some wine bags behind one of the registers so I was hopeful. I stood in at the registers on the right hand sign near the artwork & sure enough, they were able to give me my swag bags. I showed my ID & she was able to find my PP reservation. The CM wasn't sure how to deliver everything so she called for back up from CM Dakota who was wonderful! He knew exactly what was going on! We were able to choose the wine we preferred (2 reds & 2 whites), then she checked each bag for all the items (wine, wineglass, magic band, credential with lanyard) then offered me two options: Have the swag bag sent to the front OR get escorted to the main gate with our swag bags. We would not be able to roam the park with alcohol & a breakable glass. Since we were going to AK anyway, we opted to be escorted out. They had to staple our swag bags into plastic bags & find an escort to walk us out, but it wasn't a big deal. We were just happy we didn't have to worry about it on Monday & we could hit the ground running.

My group of 4 adults really loved the PP areas including the service provided by the CMs. Just that alone was worth the price of the PP. The areas were shaded with seating for at least 2 groups of 4 people each. Some were tables & chairs & some were picnic table/bench styles. There were usually 3 CMs per area with one doing the cashiering & the others are runners to get the food we ordered. We were always given wet-naps and pre-packaged plastic utensils. Once we ordered, the food showed up very quickly at the perfect temperature.
We used the PP on the 1st week so I expected them to be working out some of the kinks. Some CMs were seasoned vets while some were very new learning the ropes. The entitlements found on the credentials badge could be used and any of the PP areas but rung up as a separate transaction. Once we understood that, it was easy to use them. We're not alcohol drinkers, so we mainly used them for the higher priced food items like the Filet from Canada or the Lobster Roll from Hops & Barley. Let me say that the best PP area was the Hops & Barley location. Lots of seating plus it was completely covered, so rain or shine, we were always comfortable there! The CMs there were also wonderful to chat with, so we spent a lot of time there during our PP dates! Thanks to Hammer, Gale & Nancy for being wonderful to us whenever we stopped by! We could also hear the Eat to the Beat performances while sitting there too.

Our culinary demo was the Bacon one which ended up being goat cheese ravioli in brown butter & bacon sauce. It was ok. The chef was very nice & he explained everything well. We got a copy of the recipe and also got to sample the Festival Chardonnay. Maybe I would've liked a more bacon-centric dish? I would say the demo was about half full.

We had our ISDP on the Tuesday of our PP week. It was a rainy day & we were told many different things by all the CMs working at the PP areas. Most of them said the desserts would be in China. I had no idea how the party was supposed to be run, so I know when I was at the Festival Center, I was told to find the CMs at the bridge connecting Future World to World Showcase. The fireworks viewing is there along the fence facing the lake, but because of the rain forecast, the actual desserts were in the China Pavilion. It was a spread of various desserts, some from the food booths (Lamington & Baklava) but most were underwhelming. The worst was the churros! a soggy limp thing that was not good at all. ew! The only dessert that I liked was the two hot cobblers that were served. That night it was Apple and Berry. They had a CM serving vanilla ice cream to make sundaes, but I had her put it on my cobbler instead. YUM! It was definitely something I would never ever pay for OOP. It was not worth a lot. Maybe if we drank alcohol? It seemed that they champagne out to make mimosas, but since I don't drink, I didn't pay much attention to any of the alcohol being served.

Overall the PP was great to everyone in our group! They were glad we used it & would use it again if the PP areas are the same format. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as we did!

Did the PP get you admission to a Late Night Party? Thanks for the report. We're there next week.
