I am trying to learn more about the Food and Wine Festival.

I looked online and I see there are opportunities to do different tastings, pairings, seminars etc. How exactly does it work? do you pay extra for the seminars and tastings etc?

Thanks so much, KIM

You pay extra for most, some events can cost a couple of hundred dollars per person.

The easiest initial exposure to Food and Wine Festival is to go to the different kiosks (about 30 of them) set up around World Showcase Lagoon. All of them have tasting menus and are wonderful. Sure there are classes and such, but every year we find ourselves just hitting the different kiosks and having a great time. Point is, no need to plan, no need for reservations or advance purchase tickets. You can have a great time on the spur of the moment.

Hop over to the Dining Board and at the top of the page you'll find sticky threads about F&W.

That is my speed! Sounds awesome.. once we own DVC I will have to plan a trip!

One quick tip on F&W: Try to avoid evenings and weekends if possible. At least weekends. They get crazy. I went last year for a couple of days during the middle of the week. Earlier in the day was fantastic. Once evening rolled around it got a little busier. Not as bad as the weekends get, but at about 4pm you started noticing an increase in the crowd size. :)

I'm hoping to do a longer F&W trip in the future. :)

Enjoy!!

We have booked seminars the last 2 years for the $15 classes, appx 1 hour (discounts avail for Chase Disney customers). We did champagne (got to sample a $100 bottle!), rum, tequila, liquors, wine, and 1 food (scallop) with wine. They present the history of their company and you get 3 samples each. Since we don't drink much it was definitely a learning experience for us and informative.

This year we plan to do a dinner with wine depending on what is offered, each year it's been different. That will be more expensive so maybe just 1 this year.

Plan it for 2018, too late for 2017. F&W is a VERY popular time for DVC members. We booked one resort at 11 months for us, then the second week, at a non-home resort, at 7 months. For the non-home resort, I got one of the last rooms, even though I called right at 9:00 and the resort wasn't near a park (Kidani). Also, be aware that the 45 minute seminars only cost <$15.

How are the food kiosks at F&W compared to the F&G? (We've been to F&G 3x, but never been to F&W).

Lots more food booths, more choices overall. If you do a search on the internet you should be able to find a listing of last year's offerings. Some change year to year but many repeat their popular items.

It's very cool but as others have said, avoid the weekends and evening hours if possible...it gets crazy busy.

And...oh yes...double, triple or quadruple your food/drink budget for the day.
We spent 4 or 5 hours sampling one evening on our last F&W visit and spent well over $100 each for our supper "mini snack around the world"
One guy in our group came out over $250 down

Wasn't familiar with the how it worked so that's what I like to hear. Wasn't interested in purchasing tickets just maybe trying something that may look good. :thanks: I'm thinking that is not the same concept for the Swan & Dolphin Food & Wine which looks good but I'm not interested in having to spend over $100 to eat standing up. Judging by last year's offerings, some of this looks good for a lunch during the day. I hear it gets crazy evenings and weekends so we'll be avoiding those hours.
