Can I bring my own sandwich and water with me to DLand or is that not allowed? I was reading on the Disney site that outside food is not allowed. BUT I have heard people bringing in their own food and drink? I'm confused.

I'm not so sure what the rules are these days either.
However, I'm pretty sure that you can bring water bottles. And maybe snacks.

We each carry some type of backpack. In the backpack are our needs for the day.

Water bottle and snacks are a must. If we had the ability to make a sandwich, it would be in there too.

What is not allowed are glass containers and large coolers.

If going through the bag check they don't allow then you'd either have to eat it or pitch it. Give it a try, I'm sure it will be okay.

You can bring in drinks so long as they are not in glass containers/bottles and for food it has to already be made so no items to make a sandwhich with but one that is already made is ok

We always bring lots of water and snacks. Never had a problem.

The technical answer is:
However, with the exception of food items for Guests with specific dietary restrictions, outside food or beverage items are not permitted in either of the Disneyland Resort theme parks.

However, in practice, as others have indicated, outside food and beverages are generally allowed inside the parks. I've brought in small snacks and water in the past. They'll generally allow in foods that are "ready to eat". So, as dina444444 said, you can usually bring in a completely made sandwich, but you cannot bring in the makings for a sandwich. You cannot bring in anything in a glass container (except baby food, medicines, and perfume) or a large size cooler or a knife (in case you wanted to cut the sandwich or something like that).

We always bring in our own bottled water (plastic bottles) and pre packaged snacks like granola bars ect...we have also brought in sandwiches in lunch containers with no problem. It is technically not allowed but CMs have seen it in our backpack over several years and have never said anything.

Our plan is to bring in a few of our 40/56oz Hydroflasks in a backpack, along with the snacks that we will be bringing. We plan to buy/stock up on - some of the prepacked trail mix / goldfish crackers / nutri-grains & kids cliff bars ect... (from Costco) all stuff that is already in packages and easy to toss in a backpack for the day.

I used an insulated lunch bag, size that would hold a 6 pack. We brought in juice boxes, cheese sticks, cut up fruit, gold fish crackers and granola bars. We also each had a reusable plastic water bottle. Never had a problem bringing these into either park.
