Yay, I talked to a person in the 'world' today.

My 1+ yo ds has food allergies to dairy/milk, peanut/tree nut, partially to egg & partially to beef.

I had all the numbers in my hand, I was on All Ears opened to the menu page, my pen & paper were ready.

I called the MK first. Got the voice mail. Crap! Called Epcot next. Got a not so nice man & I wish I remembered his name to send it in. It wasn't that he was rude but I don't think he was impressed that I didn't have a zillion AD reservations made because I told him we were eating mostly counter service.

So he put me through to another voice mail.

I was hesitent on going out, but I did-my dd rode her bike on our street.

But I was thrilled when I came inside an hour or so later that the phone rang. Thinking that it was my dh I was surprised to hear a friendly voice on the line.

She emailed me some info & also told me that my ds's life line to food-chicken nuggets are safe for him to eat. Which means I don't have to bring a ton of Tyson's chicken nuggets on the plane with me.

And she told me that when I go to order let them know that it is for a food allergy since each place has a separate area that they cook for food allergies.

And she said she would make that note again on the few AD reservations that I had & let the Poly know too.

I was thrilled & I called my dh who was also thrilled. That was a major headache we had to deal with & now we know he can eat 'fast food' in Disney.

NNTR, just thought I'd share in case if anyone has food allergies.

I've been to WDW several times with my peanut allergic son. We just got back today and our only "nightmare" meal was at the Kona Cafe which is right next door to 'Ohana's at the Poly. The waitress told me that they use peanut oil on just about everything (including the nuggets). DS could not eat the bread that was brought out and had to stick with grilled cheese. The fries were fine. Had I known that, I would not have gone to the Kona Cafe but it was fine. I just got a little "lax" because Disney is really so good with the peanut oil stuff in the other restaurants.

There is no peanut oil used in Kona or any other restaurant at WDW that I know of. They are very sensitive to the whole peanut issue. There are some dishes on the menu with nuts, and the desserts and breads that are baked in their bakery cannot be guaranteed safe for nut allergies because of potential cross contamination. The server gave some VERY bad information. You should always ask to speak to the Chef if you have any such questions, they have always been very happy to accomodate any dietary needs.

Thats interesting. Thanks for the heads up Christine.

If there is peanut oil at Kona or Ohana, that is definitely something new. We have eaten at both mulitple times with our peanut allergic son. We have always talked to either the chefs or our server and they have been more than confident that most things are safe for DS. We have never had a problem with him eating there.

Actually, I watched her go to the chef and speak with him about it. They said that they could "specially" make the chicken nuggets if that's what he wanted. He didn't so that was fine.

I never had an issue at 'Ohana either in my past years, so I was surprised. But the waitress seemed adamant about this and she did talk to the chef. Hopefully it was just bad info, but better safe than sorry.
