Heading to Disney soon and wondering about eating at the restaurants with a friend that has certain food allergies - allergic to onion and garlic. Is there any hope that he can find something to eat? Wondering if buffets are out of the question or would those be the best bet?

Anyone with food allergy experience?

Thanks! :worship:

i suggest you email to specialdiets@disneyworld.com... Be sure to list the restaurant names, reservation number(s) and dates where you plan to dine, so they can alert all the various restaurant Chefs and Managers of your upcoming visit...

We went last year and DS is allergic to nuts. I knew going it that we could let the server know when we were seated about his allergy and they would relay the info to the chefs (as TS restaurants). Most of the time we would speak to a chef before they prepared DS's meal.

What I didn't know was that we could have the allergy noted on our reservations. One of the hostesses mentioned the allergy when we checked in, which shocked me. Apparently it was noted on at least one reservation, but not all. She suggested I stop at front desk/guest services at the resort and have them add it to all ADRs. We did, and they updated the ADRs. This alerted the restaurants before we got there. As I mentioned before, we spoke with chefs at most, if not all, of the TS restaurants. DS's meals were prepared without & away from nuts, and all went well.

One other note - we ate at a few buffets, and we even spoke with someone there about the allergy and which foods to avoid. There were plenty of options available for DS, but I am pretty sure they would have prepared something else if there was not enough there for him to eat safely.

Good luck!

I know that every place we have been, the servers ask "do any of you have allergies" then the chef will then appear at the table and let people know what to eat or not to eat. At the buffets, they will walk by and let you write down what you can/can't have so you don't have to rely on memory alone!!!
It really is just another wonderful thing that Disney provides! I think it's great that they don't make a big deal out of it or make people feel stupid or bad for having allergies (like some food places in my town....)
Enjoy your trip

We ate at Trail's End Buffet our first meal at WDW a couple of weeks ago and observed the chef taking a diner around and pointing out what she could and couldn't eat. (We think it was a gluten allergy.) One of the people in our group has Celiac (gluten) and when he mentioned it at a CS (Pecos Pete's in MK), the manager came out with a book with the ingredients of the menu items. I have a raw pineapple allergy (:sad1:) so when we ate at Kona, I mentioned it, figuring there was a good chance there would be some on the plates. The chef came out and talked with me and my gluten-free friend. She did not garnish my or BF's plate with pineapple so that I could eat off his plate without worries :thumbsup2. We were really impressed with their efforts to accomodate food allergies.
