Food Allergies at Afternoon Tea?

I did a search for input of GF afternoon tea & there wasn't much.... and Sarah's experience scared me about even trying, so I've kept it crossed off the list for a long time. But a bunch of my friends are going to be down & they all wanted to go there. I plan on contacting Special Diets ahead, but it seemed like even with that, people had problems.... :confused3

Should I plan on being able to basically just eat strawberries & drink tea? The latest of the 3 reviews I found on search said they were given some Babycakes items, which would be perfect. Can anyone confirm if they offer those now? Even if they use GF bread, the sandwiches are out because of my other allergies - so I'm not planning on making a meal out of it or looking for anything spectacular - I just want to have some tasty nibbles with my buds. :dance3:

I'm not sure if things have improved at the Grand Floridian but I have had issues at each of the restaurants there but haven't tried the tea. I'm not sure why but they just don't have that magical I'd love to make this special or even decent attitude. Even things that normally should have been safe had been stored or cooked with things that didn't even make sense. I had a particularly awful experience at the GF Cafe where they couldn't even be bothered to get me a package of allergy safe cookies that I knew they had at the very least Gasparilla Games. 1900 Park Fare has offered me foods I knew 100% weren't safe and it wasn't minor tricky stuff it was nuts and soy.

Would I go to the tea with a group of friends to enjoy the company---yes. But I would try to contact them ahead of time since they will charge you full price anyway to have a few safe things for you. I would give them very specific direction as that seems to yield better results--Like I like x y and fruits and would like whipped cream and a creme brulee. I know my friends feel bad when I don't have anything to eat too so that would be more of my reason to work on it.

You didn't mention what your allergies are? They no longer serve peanut butter (at least for the princess tea) and seemed easy enough to work with.

. . . Should I plan on being able to basically just eat strawberries & drink tea? . . .

1) Be aware that you can no longer order ala carte.
. . . everyone MUST order a "full package" *
. . . once the package is ordered, you can ADD ON ala carte
2) Can't order a pot of tea and an ala carte snack (ie. strawberries and tea).

* Too many people would come in and order tea and 1-2 small items. This
reduced the revenue-per-cover (aka, revenue-per-person). It also cut well
into the SERVER's tips. Now, all must have a package.
