my DD6 has a severe peanut allergy. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this at the WDW restaurants and do you need to mention it when making ADR's? thanks!

Yes, you should mention this when making your ADRs. I asked a similar question here on the DIS and many suggested that I call Disney Dining back with my allergy specifics. I did, and the CM made notes on all of my ADRs (one at a time) and then gave me the direct telephone numbers with each of the restaurants. That way I can call before our ADR (24 hours before is recommended, but not required) and when we check-in, I can speak directly with the chef and will have my "allergy issues" (likely not as serious as your daughter's, but if I ingest almond or coconut I have to head straight to the hospital) addressed by the chef himself/herself.

I felt so bad having the CM go through all our ADRs (about 15 of them!) but she was wonderful about it!

Good luck!

My son has a severe peanut/tree nut allergy and is also a type 1 diabetic. Here is our trip report from last May which is rather detailed: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=818591&highlight=peanut+allergy+diabetic

We are going to WDW at the end of the week and things are pretty much the same. Note the allergy on all your ADR's and get in touch with Brenda Bennett before you go. She will email you several documents listing safe (and unsafe) foods in all 4 parks. For example the popcorn itself is safe except that the oil it is popped in appears to be a "may contains" - so go figure! Much of the stuff on the ice cream carts is not safe but the Iskadoozies are safe - my son loves those!

Are the Mickey bars no longer safe? They used to be on my son's first trip many years ago. I never thought to check on our trip last year and he had a few of them with no problem, but maybe I should have rechecked...

I asked Brenda about the Mickey bars last summer and she said not safe. I didn't ask her specifically about them this time but they aren't on her "safe" list. I think most things in the ice cream cart are may contains (or have peanuts like the choc. covered banana).

I have to call Brenda back and ask about something else so I'll try to clarify that and hopefully have time to post!

Thanks. They probably aren't safe as I think Nestle was making them and they went into the whole "cover your butt" labeling a few years ago. I should be more careful. My son went on the Disney cruise 2 years ago with my mom and I think he ate at least 2 of these a day.

We have always allowed our son to eat the Mickey Bars. There were not any "may contains" or "manufactored" on the label. I will be certain to recheck on our next trip as I know things are known to change. The swirled popsicles and the Minnie Strawberry Bar were also okay according to the labels in Nov. 2005.

I spoke to someone at Nestle today. He told me that although there are peanut products produced at the facility that he strongly believes the product is safe. He said they take steps to avoid cross-contamination. He said they take the machines apart and clean them throughly when there is a flavor change or anything. Then I asked him if he could check the current label and he said that it does not mention that it was processed in a facility that has peanut products. He said due to the law he thinks the labels will change to reflect that it is processed in the facility. Bottom line is that he said that he believes the products are safe but as a parent I have to make that decision.

allboyz - Thanks for making the call directly to Nestle. That cleaning process is within my comfort zone but I will still make sure to read the label once again for our Nov trip.
