My 3 year old son has a severe milk allergy in which we need to carry an EpiPen. I would love to be able to let him eat while we are at the parks this coming March, but we need to know the specific ingredients of the food. I have emailed Disney, but have not heard back. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a list of ingredients of park food? This would help us plan so that he might be able to eat their food while we are at the park! Thanks for help!

Hi! I know exactly what you are talking about. My son, who is now 20 years old, has severe milk and milk-by-products allergies. More than once he ended up in the emergency ward for an epinepherine shot for accidental ingestion of some food with milk in it (when he was a toddler).

Here's what I learned about Disney....they are wonderful with allergies! When we made our priority seating...I would ask for his milk allergy to be noted. Then, I would ask the waiter at each restaurant to talk to someone about what foods on the menu had milk, butter, whey, etc. in them. Each time, the chief would come to our table and talk with us. Many times they would make a special plate for my son, and use margerine instead of butter, etc. My son always had a very nice meal! Once, at the Brown Derby, they made us a special birthday cake without any milk products!

So, don't hesitate to ask the waiters or the persons behind the counters about the ingredients.....they are extreemly helpful!!

Drake, Thank you for your help! I hope your son is doing well. We will definately ask the servers at the Parks.

I think the official policy is to call Reservations at least 72 hours in advance for them to prepare "special" food. They should put you in contact with the restaurants you plan to eat to.
My son is allergic to milk protein (not life endangering, thankfully) so I am planning to do that a week before leaving :-)

I would also ask Disney Dining for the phone# to talk to the people in charge of Counter service. I know that they have advised others about what has dairy and what does not, like, are the hotdogs and chicken strips dairy free.

Sit downs will be no problem. The chefs are great. (We deal with peanut/tree nut allergy and wheat sensitivity.)

You're going to the right place with food allergies! My son is peanut allergic but we really wanted to go to Boma (which can be a nightmare with a peanut allergy)

We mentioned the allergy to the waiter, chef came out and asked what my son would eat. I told him he would eat a piece of meat, plain, nothing green on it..you know, all the usual picky kid stuff.

You should have seen the plate he got! It was skewered beef, tons of it, piled high with fancy stuff on it. People around us started asking where they could get the same dish!

That was the best meal he had all week.

Also, my MIL is allergic to garlic (that's a real fun one, too). Went to O'Hana and same deal. Chef came out, asked what she wanted (she said meat) and she got filet mignon with shrimp, vegetables and rice prepared just for her and salad with her own dressing. I was so jealous!!!

So you see, Disney is not only accomodating, they go above and beyond to make everyone feel good.

Please give Brenda Bennett of Magic Kingdom Foods a call at 407-824-5967. She can email you a list of safe (and unsafe) foods from counter service places in all the parks.

My preschooler is very allergic to peanut/tree nut (and is type 1 diabetic) and she was most helpful. Also do as others have suggested and have the allergy noted on any sit down reservations you make.

Feel free to PM me with any questions! :thumbsup2

Thanks to all for your great suggestions and help. For those of you who have children with allergies, you can appreciate how hard it can be.

It is great to hear how accomadating the chefs at Disney are. I can't wait till March!!!

Thank you again! Christine

Avoid Boma if you have a peanut / nut allergy. Despite a chef coming out to help us, my DD still broke out in hives around her mouth there!!! Just a heads up!

With that exception, WDW has always been awesome about her allergy. I agree about getting info from Brenda Bennett. Very helpful!

The counter service restaurants all have ingredient books now. Ask for a manager and they will go over the book with you to see what will be safe for your child. We did this in Dec. for DD6 who is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts.
