How do you feel about a follow up to a thank you letter to a potential employer?
I've just started reading about them but I'm unsure what you put in one to not sound desperate or pushy?
When is it appropriate to send one? How long after the initial interview should you send one?

Always always send a thank you note.

Thank your interviewer for taking the time to meet with you. Indicate that you are looking forward to hearing from them soon. Short, sweet and to the point.

My father was in human resources for 35 years and always told me to send a thank you as follow up to an interview. I send one usually the day after the interview. Both times that I sent a letter, I got the job and they thanked me for the letter and said how thoughtful and considerate it was.

Good Luck!

If you send a note, do so immediately. I'm at a law firm, and I fill out the evaluation form the minute the candidate leaves my office, so a note does no good with me.

If I really was interested in a position, I've always sent one the same day I did the interview or the first thing the next morning. You never know what's going to give you an edge over the rest of the applicants. Certainly doesn't hurt (in my opinion).

Edited to add: I hand-delivered mine to the front desk of the office where I interviewed.

The thank you was sent the day after the interview. I'm wondering about followup to let the employer know you are still interested in the position after you haven't hear back from them.

I would have also actually put something in the Thank you note letting them know to 'feel free to contact me should you need any further information from me'. Generally for the interviews I've been on, the interviewer will indicate what their timeline is for making a decision. If you feel like you want to send a follow up, I'd send that a day or two after the deadline.

As far as I know she said that she would be interview people this week as well.
It's been a week since he spoke to her though. Is it too soon to send a 2nd follow up letter to find out the status of the position?

Bump
Bumping this thread to see if anyone else knows about a followup to a thank you.

I would call or e-mail...mucch more instantaneous than a "snail mail" letter.

He would send an email. I'm just wondering if such a thing is appropriate and how long he should wait till after the initial interview to send such a thing.
The deal is that the position is in VT and he had a phone interview with her. He's really interested in the job and is hoping she will call him to come to VT for a face to face interview.
He sent a thank you follow up letter and she let him know she got it but since then nothing.
Id' read an article about follow up letters to a thank you letter to remind the employer you are still interested but I have no idea when it's appropriate to send such a letter or what to put in it
