Folding cane stools allowed in parks?

I'm traveling down in Nov 2014 with my mom and my aunt. Both ladies have mobility issues for different reasons (my mom has COPD and can't walk more than a few steps without sitting, my aunt had vertebrae fused in her back and can't stand for long periods).

We're renting them both scooters but I was wondering if we would be allowed to bring their folding cane stools that they both have?

Both will be able to transfer in and out of most of the attractions okay, they just can't stand/walk for long distances. The stool/cane is something we use all the time here at home, I'm just not sure of what the park policy is on them.

They really are handy, Dawn.

lol we got my mom one after an incident in our local Goodwill where she suddenly "had" to sit (she lost her wind) and I had to run back to the furniture section and quickly grab a chair for her.

The cane stool is a wonderful thing and I think they will really make transferring much easier for the both of them. :thumbsup2

Folding chair are prohibited. I'm not sure i this would be a folding chair or not. Seeing it in park does not mean it is actually allowed. People have bright rolling coolers in even though those are not allowed. That said I don't see how they would be that much of a help. You can bring your ECv to the boarding area on all but a couple rides. It would not be wise to use them in a crowded line or area as people could jostle them. I would just stick with a regular cane if needed and an ECv.

I'm trying to think of where they would need them? Everywhere that they would walk would be either scooter accessible or not a good place to be sitting down, as it would block the flow of traffic. The only place I can think where it would be easier to have a seat than navigate in a scooter is at a CS restaurant while you wait to order. Some of the CS queues are narrow and crowded, but there is always a wider queue at the end, it seems.

This has been asked before and I didn't have a good answer. Now I do when we were there in May there were 2 people in line with them CMs didn't seem to care but the gentleman was very slow to sit and stand people in line were getting real upset the thing is he would no sooner sit then he would have to stand I think they are a good idea if the line isn't moving but most rides are in constant motion

Almost all attractions you can take an ECV right to the Load area. And if Unload is not at the same location, they will move the ECV for you.

For those where you cannot take the ECV all the way through the queue there are loaner wheelchairs available.

They seem to be sort of a gray area. I’ve seen them allowed, and I’ve seen them not allowed. Technically, they fall under the “no folding chairs” rule, but they can be easy for individual CM’s to either miss or see as cause for an exception. Having toured with an ECV before, I’m having trouble picturing places where they’d be both needed and more of a help than a hindrance, but you know your own situation best.

If you do decide to try it, I’d advise having a good backup plan ready to go in case it doesn’t work out.

The only place I would think these would be useful would maybe be if you went into shops or a restaurant or something like that. For attractions I would just use the ECVs. If you feel they will need them, then bring them.

I have a rollator (4 wheeled walker with a seat) and used it quite a bit to sit in lines and such. The difference is that with the wheels I could scoot myself or have a family push me while I sat in it as the line moved when I needed to. I saw several people in the parks with rollators and if one wanted to split hairs these could also be considered "folding chairs" as they do fold up. That's not their primary purpose of course...they are a mobility device and so is a cane...the fact that they are also "chairs" is just an added feature.

Doesn't cost you anything to bring them though, right? Worst case is that they end up not using them. Definitely rent the ECVs though and use them as much as possible.
