I have often heard it is cheaper to fly on certain days. (and safer) Which days are the least expensive?
Thanks

It is not necessarily true that some days are cheaper than others. Many domestic fares are valid every day of the week. However, the most popular travel days may be sold out and thus the fares may appear higher on certain days. That being said:

1) Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the least traveled days of the week and thus may have greater availability of lower fares or sale fares.
2) Fridays, Sundays and Mondays are the most heavily traveled days of the week. The cheapest fares sell out the quickest on these days.
3) For international travel to/from Europe the cheapest fares are normally Monday through Thursday with travel on other days carrying a weekend surcharge of $25-30 more each way. In the U.S. to U.K. market sometimes Thursday is also treated as a weekend date.
4) While it pays to check general travel websites for a look at various fares, some airlines can't be found on those websites. Examples in the U.S. include such airlines as Southwest, JetBlue, USA3000. You have to visit the airline websites to locate their prices.

Every now and then you will see a sale that is only good Tues - Thurs, and you'll find that the cheap seats often sell out quickest for busy travel times (depends upon the flight, but usually Fri and Sun). But for the most part, day of the week isn't that big a deal.

And flying is incredibly safe every day of the week.

Thanks everyone..Since I have some flexibilty I want to find the best airfare.

If you are booking online, Tuesday at midnight the fares are the lowest price. I do not know why but I got round trip Newark to orlando for 538.00 for 4 seats on Continential airlines. When I go to the site now, it's 708.00.

Hi Cookies
You mentioned that the best prices online were on Tuesday evenings. Were you referring to the airline's actual sites or through travelocity, expedia, etc. Thanks for the imput-we are watching and waiting to book and starting to worry. :surfweb:

mackeyapp, if you're only watching flights from YHZ your experience may be different from posters using US carriers. Since CanJet is no longer an option for you, I would look at all realistic US entry points and make a list of all the airports you could reasonably fly from, if they are even an opton. Price out getting to that city, travel time, cost of parking the car, and hotel accommodation and add that onto the price of flying from the US. It may not even be a viable option.

Then go to travelocity.ca and sign up for their automated email alert for city pairs - it will email you whenever the price drops.

Note however that Air Canada has been pulled from the travelocity engine so their fares won't show automatically when you do a fare search. Also use United.com to search (use the advanced search feature and add AC as an airline). I often fly AC to LAX but get a cheaper fare by booking off United.com vs Aircanada.ca
