the only bad thing is that the flights are at least twice as expensive as manchester or gatwick flights! Oh and they aren't eligable for miles + money or free flights.

Every glasgow flight in this summer was choco block full. I'm hoping for a full service from there in 2009/2010. Would love to have a flight from scotland, but they are just too expensive compared to going down south.

Its an absolute joke. Every single company are so much more expensive to fly from glasgow.

Its even more expensive to go with globespan than it is to go with other airlines from english airports.

Its not an issue flying to the states from an english airport, but its not very good having a 5+hours drive home after an 8 hour flight!

correct me if i am wrong but do the flights from England not fly up the west coast of Scotland then head over towards Boston,so they are near land for as long as possible or over sea for a short time.
if so they would use up more fuel so why are they cheaper than Glasgow flights?

thats what they do.

it must be due to airport taxes or something.

More flights, less overheads, overall costs come down when you are running more flights out of an airport.
One flight per week, by bringing an aircraft and crew up from either Manchester or Gatwick has to be paid for.
(I think they are MAN crews?)
Prices should come down as more flights per week increase.

According to the VA website the GLA flights do earn miles as a quote for next year said 8,300 miles. Also the June/July flights will cost more from GLA than LGW or MAN as Scotlands school holidays are generally earlier and hence demand for flights will go up. I am sure late July flights from England will be in the £700 region once released later this month. Although as Obi says the overheads for VA flying two flights a week for a short period will be high, so they have to increase the prices.

The Gatwick flights to Orlando often head off across the West Country/Wales/Ireland as that is how the Great Circle runs, only West Coast USA flights nearly always go over Scotland.

Yes the prices are more, wish they weren't. But you have to add cost of the extras to get the cheaper flights from MAN/LGW ie cost of travel/staying overnight/parking and extra food. When all this was added in to the costs the small price difference was made up for by the better flight times from/to GLA and not having the extra travel times at both ends. All it would cost me would be the taxi fare to/from GLA.

A £63 difference isn't too great for travelling from a local airport.

LGW to MCO June 21st - July 5th is £689

GLA to MCO June 21st - July 5th is £752

From the VA website today for 2008.

It depends on how many people you have to pay for. if its just yourself then its fine, but if its a family then the difference is a lot, even with the extra costs for going to MAN, LGW taken into account.

thats a reasonable difference, but the prices for the cheaper airlines are ridiculous.

Oh and for the same dates MAN to MCO is £694.

We are a family of 4 and to fly to LGW it is about £400 and MAN is nearly the same. We have done this in the past to both LGW and MAN. We have also been delayed arriving in LGW and missed our connecting flight and had to wait 5 hours for the next one(it was a Sunday!).
If we were to drive to MAN it would still cost us nearly £300 and an extra day on the way down or a very very very early start. I don't know about anyone else but I hate the drive home after an overnight flight with little or no sleep.
So for us as a family we are very pleased that we can fly Virgin from GLA as we are only 30mins from GLA. Even if we had to pay £500+ we would still do it!
